Are we missing him on the bench? As his role got diminished over the last few years you’ve seen our record do the same. He was caliparis number 1 assistant who did all the scouting and ran practice when he couldn’t be there..I believe cal listened to him more than any assistant he’s had.

What we have been missing is shots.
2 for 19 is not going to get it done at Notre Dame.

I do believe we are and have believed it for years. I don’t think there’s anything to be done about it, sadly.
We have good shooters, I figure we are due a 12/19 performance soon to balance that out.
What we are missing is a head coach that can coach a lick. We don't have one at the moment.
Imo yes. Cal was the CEO and PR guy. Robes was the coach. When he personally hit a wall so did the quality of basketball at uk
Shots are easier to make when shooters know a play is being run for them and where that shot is coming from. Whenever it’s random and you are asked to put it up quick…it makes it tougher.
What I’m saying is UK doesn’t run a shooter friendly offense currently. It may continue to evolve but right now there aren’t enough screens and ball movement. Lots of guys forcing first looks!
My parents lost my sister when she was 28.
Robic lost his daughter when she was 27.
My parents were never the same. Can only imagine how devastating that is to lose a child young.

My little brother was 27 when we lost him April of this year. I'm learning to cope, don't think my mom and dad will ever be the same again. It really takes the wind out of your sails. If it's never happened to you then you just don't understand which is a good thing. This isn't a pain you want to be subjected to.
I believe Cal would get both Robics and Kenny Payne’s input on things and take it into consideration. The staff he had last year were all YES men and offered nothing of value. It’s too early to say how the current staff will be.
When Cal and Robic first got to Lexington back in 2009 it seem like they had a chemistry among themselves and seemed like Robic was the guy Cal trusted the most.. he was his right hand man and involved in every aspect of the game. Then over time it was like Robic was always getting demoted and that could’ve been by Robics own doing, but just my opinion here but I have felt something has been a little bit off with Robic and Cal the last few years. Robic used to would smile at times or joke around or b sarcastic with the media when having to deal with them but In a fun way but even before his daughter got sick and passed away I sensed something was wrong but I mean I’m not an expert at this bc I don’t know these guys personally but it’s just a theory I have that something is been amiss. I may be wrong though like I said. I hope when Robic steps away it’s because of his own choice because he seems to be a very loyal. That’d be ****** of Cal to let him go now after all he been through with him.

I disagree. It’s pretty obvious it’s due to coach Cals weight gain. The offseason between 15’ and 16’ Cal put on roughly 50 lbs. everyone knows being overweight impacts your performance in everything you do

Good thread, I do think we miss him in his previous role. As with everything, it not simple as just that but I think it’s part of it. Like another poster mentioned we also got shooters clanking iron, breaking backboard glass and perhaps endangering those sitting in the first few rows of getting hit in the head with one of these jumpers.
There’s a lot of problems to fix. We did a lot of work clearing out some of the incompetent staff last year, I think the team has been better for it. But there’s certainly a lot more improvement needed

I always find it hilarious when people pick the one thing thats missing and instantly think that's what caused us to go 2-19 from 3 in a game lol You make 5 threes and you beat ND. I mean.....it comes down to the players hitting the open shots that they have. Cal and the staff can't make the shots for them and they were open most of the time.
Exactly. TyTy and Grady have both been disappointing in the two big games this far. Some people will say we didn’t try to get Grady shots, but we ran him off screens quite a bit. He just couldn’t get any separation and when he did he hesitated. The only complaint I have is we continuously get beat on inbounds plays. Also we did run some of our own but ND defended it well. Calipari needs to clean that up for sure, but again it’s not solely
On him. Wheeler just forgot where he was. The coaching staff did more than enough to win, but the players just have to execute.

This is a question that I've shared for a few years now. Robic has been with Cal off and on for 30+ years, going back to the UMass days, when Cal, Robic, and Flint built that program from nothing. Robic had always been an integral part of Cal's staff, especially with scouting, game planning, and player development, and known to be a tireless worker. I can't remember when he started stepping away due to his health and family issues, but it was prior to the downturn since 2015. There's many things that may have gone into the decline in our performance since 2015, like Kenny Payne's departure, the feud with Nike, other schools ramping up the cheating, and Cal's own complacency and bench coaching deficiencies, but I have to think Robic not being aound in the same capacity has been a factor. How significant a factor, who knows, but hasn't Cal even admitted that the staff doesn't even scout teams and players?

It definitely changes a person I lost my son at 18 it destroyed my 25 year marriage took me 6 years to be kinda normal again hopefully coach leans on God I turned to a bottle

OK so Cal has Dontaie Allen sittin 2-3 seats to his left so why not see if he still capable of hitting a 3ball like he did last year a few imes. I mean I know that’s just crazy thinking on my part as to why I would think like that about you or coach Cal and thinking such crazy, obscene, sick minded thoughts that that Allen boy might just get in there and hit 1or 2 three’s. Cal rather Wheeler keep shooting 22% from behind the arc than give Allen a chance to knock down a couple 3s a game. The name of the game is whoever puts the ball thru the hoop more times and scores more points than the other team is what’s really the most important thing.. as crazy as it sounds now I know it’s crazy to think that if Dontaie scores 15 in a game it’s still a big problem cuz he gave up 6 points and accidentally trip over his own penis cuz he try to switch on a screen. But Cal don’t even like the 3point shot and never has and I’d really like to have kicked his *** the night he broke the streak of consecutive games with 3pt basket. I mean to me 3point baskets is Kentucky Basketball to me. Call me old school or whatever you like but I love them big blue 3 cards hanging. But Cal don’t like dudes who can just shoot triples. Like Kyle Wiltjer got his mins but it was a bad fit for Wiltjer just cause Cal don’t know what to do with dudes who can shoot the ball. He thinks everybody gotta constantly be tryin to get to the cup or it’s a bust.

In terms of shooting, it's just like all recent cal teams - it all comes down to shot selection.
When we get the right person taking the right shot in the right situation - we shoot well. When we just run a weave to burn up half the shot clock and hope someone makes a play - we don't shoot well..

I apologize for all you ppl who have had to read this long “Brick of Words” I wrote in a single post. I was tired, and keeping up with a fussy kid and I should’ve left it alone and spared you and everyone else on here the misery of reading it. I just think anyone who thinks a situation like shooting 2-19 from 3 is a problem that is laughable and get mad that Cal gets blamed by fans for not tryin to fix it is the one who should re-think that assessment. I may went overboard but if y’all don’t like it.. I don’t care. I try to be respectful to ppl tho but In the case of this topic, this situation could be fixed. I’d say we should be able to hit 7-8 3pt fgs per game of Cal will play guys who can shoot the damn rock. Hell, the thread started out about Robic and only after someone stated that fans pick 1 thing and go after it is why y’all got all these words from me.
