Big guy lived a great life.

Would the Madden doc have carried more weight if he died just prior?

He and his six-legged turkeys on the Madden Cruiser on Thanksgiving GameDay broadcasts. A classic. Here's to you, coach. You had a nice run!

Edit: One of my former neighbors here in Boone NC played for Madden and won a Superbowl. Dave Rowe (from NJ and PSU) was a defensive end. I'm sure Dave's taking the loss hard. Terrific guy. Had to move off the mountain (to Greensboro) as his wife couldn't handle the elevation any longer.

His Oakland teams were unique - tough, nasty, dirty. Any coach that made Stabler a HOFer is a great coach IMO. Coaching and broadcasting - definitely an icon and a legendary character in the history of the NFL. RIP

imagine what that Oakland locker room was like in those days?

Big reason I was a Raider fan. Born in the 70s so really too young to appreciate him. What he made them and left behind is why I was a Raider fan as a kid. Summerall and Madden together again. 🙏

Wow, that's sad. They were just mentioning this during the Liberty Bowl. He was truly iconic as a broadcaster.

RIP. he will be remembered by millions as a HOF coach. He will be remembered by another group of millions as one f the best announcers of professional football who made games exciting g just by his commenting on it. Finally he will be remembered by another group as then one behind ok e of the most played video games. Crazy arc of a career

Damn. Anybody know how, or from what, he died?

Glad he was able to see, from the documentary before he died, what he meant to so many people.

Madden and Summerall were both drafted players who you could tell loved football individually, but broadcasting together they were a great magnifier of any game they did. Little games felt big and big games felt bigger. Madden always liked the Giants' games because he said the fans understood and loved defense - which the Giants were very good at in Madden/Summerall era

That Madden documentary was awesome.
Great Coach and announcer. Was a great diplomat for football. Made it fun to watch for everyone.

And made a great lite beer commercial
RIP. Coach!!

Not sure if this story is true. He was spending so much time into coaching that he even forgot his son's birthday. That's when he realized that it was time to quit coaching. Is this true?

The stories about Madden's bus and the sheer quantity of porn in his mobile collection were the stuff of legend. What a huge personality - and a genuinely good guy.

He and Summerall were the soundtrack to me learning to love the game as a young kid in the early/mid 80s watching all those Giants/NFC playoff games. Then the video games that are legendary in their own way. What a career
