IMHO when I was 16 in 1983 Master hit, what is to this day, the most thrilling shot by a UK player.

It was his 12 footer v. U of L at the buzzer to send the Dream Game into OT.

Although Kentucky would lose in OT it was the shot that I remember as the most thrilling.

I believe he's living a successful happy life in Lexington.

FWIW, Master may've had the most unfair "unrealistic expectations" by fans when he came in of just about any UK player ever, because of the hype of him supposedly being "the next Kyle Macy." Remember that?

And, in fairness, he did look the role. Like Macy, was an Indiana Mr. Basketball who came in the same year Macy left and even looked like him and had the same shooting form and all. So the BBN labeled him the next Macy. And even though he did have a very good career here, there was still this odd sense that he was a disappointment simply because he was never as good as Macy.

Yep, remember it like it was yesterday. And I was 17, so we're about the same age. The OT? I don't wanna talk about that.

I barely remember Master. I was around 10 when he was at UK.

I remember thinking he was this superstar level player when he played, and finding out later that he was just an average college player. It’s funny how you see things as a kid. I was the same way with Leroy Bird. I remember how loud the crowd seemed to get when he came in and thinking, “wow, he must be really good.” Didn’t they call him “Baby Magic” or something. But I digress.

If they had the 3 point shot back then Joe B. would have let him shoot more instead of going inside to those great bigs we had!

Yep, that 83 shot by Master and the 05 shot by Sparks are by far the two biggest .."would be greatest shots if only overtime had gone differently" shots in UK history.

That was a star studded Regional with Hall, Knight, Crum & Sutton along with 4 damn good teams/programs. If only Arky had held onto that lead of theirs... who knows what may have happened vs. the Hogs.

The LH did a butcher job on Jim Master in their Pulitzer piece trying to bring down Ky basketball . He had to go on air that night explaining all of their misquotes .

Master could stroke it from deep. Would have had a much different career if the 3pt line existed back then. Wasn't much on defense....:D
Can still see him hitting that jumper against UofL to force OT.

What would have been a bigger shot if UK had gone on to win, Master's jumper to send the U of L game to OT, or Sean Woods' bank shot that would have beaten Duke? Sparks' shot was great, but we probably would have lost to UNC in the Final Four.

“bigger shot “- in my mind, and I saw both, it’s Woods shot. Beating UL would have been great, but not so much nationally. The Duke game is one the media (espn) will never let die, and helped propel Duke and K to God like status. I was upset by the dream game outcome, but I didn’t see it over and over again in my head or every year on tv like 92 Duke. Still makes my blood boil. UL won fair and square, but Laitner should have been ejected and never had a chance to hit that shot. God I hate Duke.

Winning the Dream Game, to me, would have been more important than beating Duke. Anyone who lived in the Louisville area knows what it was like. We won a title, our fifth, in 78. They won their first in 80, and just like today that fan base just needs one good thing to happen to start yapping nonstop. They lost on a half court shot in 81 while we lost to UAB. Then the game that was supposed to happen in 82 but we couldn't even beat Middle Tennessee (many thought Hall threw that game). Pretty much every U of L fan walked around saying they were now THE program and Crum would own Hall if they ever played. It was a LONG three years from 80 to 83. We got up on them early, then Hall couldn't handle a decent but not great Louisville press. Losing that game seemed like losing an election. I remember U of L fans talking about how they would win another title in 85 in Rupp Arena. Then 65-44 happened, thank God.

Didn't Anothony Epps hit a shot to send the game in overtime in the 97' finals versus Zona? My memory is failing and I was living overseas at the time.
