I never referenced evangelicals. You do not have to be an evangelical to want to push religion beyond a neutral stance.Who are the evangelicals on the SCt again?
I believe the conservative majority is willing to do that

Jefferson cut out the supernatural parts of the Bible and called it The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, something that no doubt would land a person in jail, or worse, in some theocracies.Overturning Roe was a political decision. It was activist. That’s why Roberts did not concur with the opinion to overturn Roe. Roe did not need to be overturned to decide Dobbs.
Add one other item. The opinion was leaked. As such, it was subject to review by historians, legal experts, medical experts, etc. Errors and flaws were pointed out. None were included in the final opinion.
Then you have the case of the football coach praying on the football field after a game, Gorsuch literally misrepresented the facts in his opinion. Just look at the dissent for photographic evidence.
Moore could end the republic, though. That’s the big one.
And the country was founded as a secular nation. How many reference to god exist in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights? If it were non-secular, do you think there would be at least one time god was referred to?
Many of the prominent founders were not Christian, They were Deists. Washington. Hamilton. Madison. Jefferson. Franklin.
Come on now. To name a few? That is dead on arrival you moron. There will be no ban on abortions. It will be decided by the states. Will some crazy states ban it? Maybe. But you must understand it has zero chance of a federal ban.Lankford, Ernst, McCarthy to name a few among many who have already stated publicly they would support legislation to support a ban. But you’re the one calling people an idiot?
Again, you make a sound argument. Compare IQ levels little boy? Thought not. But carry onSo stupid.
Just like Biden said we could pack the court? Lots of things could happen. Doesn't mean they have a snow balls chance in hell.McConnell mentioned it could happen if Republicans retake Congress.

The original point being that people who said they think states should decide now want a federal law. Whether it passes or not doesn't change that hypocrisy/lie.Come on now. To name a few? I have always believed in the separation of Church and State.I’m still good with that as long as the State is not attempting to overstep it’s boundaries with everything else .The Christian Evangelicals also should avoid the confrontational issues as much as possible but as US citizens they do have right to disapprove just as the left has their hot topic picks. Problem with this is it is never going to happen with those we have in leadership at all levels. If that is the case then we should all be doing everything in our power to ensure that it remains a secular nation as intended and be pushing back against politicians that think our government should be guided by religion. In the current environment it happens to be right wing evangelical Christians but that should be the case should ANY religion try to deviate from the real founding principles of this country. That’s what people have fought and died for over the past decades.
The fact that Dobbs was a political decision is evidenced by Alito's preemptive strike that the opinion had no precedential value. If the right to privacy no longer exists, what does that mean for same sex marriage or contraception?Overturning Roe was a political decision. It was activist. Yet even Thomas was disingenuous, leaving out Loving v Virginia. These justices are mostly clowns. The fact that Dobbs was a political decision is evidenced by Alito's preemptive strike that the opinion had no precedential value. If the right to privacy no longer exists, what does that mean for same sex marriage or contraception?
Not to worry, Alito says, those are safe. Because he said so. Because the court doesn't want to overturn them (yet?). Therefore the legal principles applied in Dobbs do not apply for those issues. What a crock.
At least give Thomas some credit for honesty. He alone put his judicial agenda on the table, for all to see.
"Have the courage to let the unborn be born," which is bizarre when you consider that sometimes the mother might die without an abortion. "Have the courage to die even if the fetus is self-aborting."What did Harbaugh say again?
Tell that to the people who believed the recently appointed justices who said they believed in settled law. Now that you’ve called everyone who disagrees with you a moron maybe it’s time to look in the mirror at the real moron.Just like Biden said we could pack the court? Lots of things could happen. Doesn't mean they have a snow balls chance in hell.
OK- so directly to me from his mother - He decided on his stance because of how grateful he was to be handed the luckiest card in the universe. What a ridiculous comparison - apples to oranges . In addition, you have no idea how many "death threats" CK got - you made that up to support a false analogy. People don't respect CK because he is a mediocre football player who outwardly hates the police and plays the victim card when in reality he is spoiled privileged brat - sorry you can't see through his phony outrage. Before you ask I am pro-choice - But unlike you I respect other peoples views.
I hated to quote Clay Travis. I'm fairly middle of the road (believe it or not) and lean hard left on many social/personal freedom issues, but one thing that drives me nuts with a lot of people on the left, particularly the tech companies like Google, Twitter, etc, is their trying to suppress free speech. It happens on the right too. Just say what you want to say, but say it politely and be ready to politely discuss/debate your position. Can't see why this is so hard for some people.I'm left and liberal (but not crazy) and have already said many times in this discussion he is allowed to give his opinion...
That is exactly where I am too. It's funny- I grew up republican and would have been a slight right to middle of the road conservative all the way into my 30's...And I hear so many people talking now exactly how I used to be until my eyes were opened.I hated to quote Clay Travis. Wait a second, I thought Jeebus was the first one to think murder and stealing wasn’t a good idea![]()
Harry Potter being anti-Christian is a new one to me. Christians can be really weird, man. It has always been unfathomable how Christians can selectively follow some rules (against homosexuality), but ignore others (usury, eating shellfish). This and the cult of persecution for a group that is the large majority of this country. Personally, I don’t care if y’all want to speak in tongues and practice exorcisms on one another (assuming the exorcee is willing), but cannot object more strongly the the whole anti-gay thing. It is the very persecution that so animates Christian ideology.Interesting points. I will address one point here.
As a Christian, according to the Bible, I have liberty to wear rainbows, antifa symbols, gang colors, etc.
Per Yahweh, my and every other Christian’s decision like this comes down to individual conscience.
For example, would I read a Harry Potter book? No. Am I allowed to read Harry Potter books? Yes. Why won’t I? Other than I have no interest in the books, I also don’t want to entertain myself with something that God hates. In this case, God has made it clear he hates sorcery. Would violate my conscience.
In the pride flag jersey situation, I would not wear a pride flag because my conscience tells me not to wear a symbol of something that Yahweh hates. God tells us in the Bible that homosexual sex is an abomination. The pride flag celebrates homosexual conduct in addition to “pride,” which God says is sinful as well.
This Biblical doctrine is written about exhaustively under the title of Christian Liberty.
Thanks.
There are lots of good people on the planet, way more than bad people, IMO. But there is absolutely no correlation with any religions. Gotta look at it on an individual basis, one person at a time. Also gotta make huge allowances for human imperfections or else the good to bad person ratio suffers enormously.
I'd imagine if you're required to wear a uniform provided by your employer as part of your employment than yes they should wear it. Otherwise they can quit. But that's irrelevant to the original point.

The employer in this situation is a professional rugby league team that commissioned a jersey to promote unity and inclusion. The jersey would be worn for one game only. The players who objected to wearing the jersey can do so. Of course, they might as well just say, “I’m a bigot.” But thats their choice.
Back to Jim and his position on abortion--I see his point. I am not religious, and I'm sure it has been hashed out in this long thread, but somewhere on the other side of the debate the life of the fetus seems to be forgotten. A reasonable limit should be a reasonable compromise, and it seems that most countries have about 15 weeks as the cutoff point unless the mother's life is in jeopardy. That is exactly where I am too. It's funny- I grew up republican and would have been a slight right to middle of the road conservative all the way into my 30's...And I hear so many people talking now exactly how I used to be until my eyes were opened.
I do try to respect that and understand it, and I am always open to hear an opinion and have a discussion. And it is so shocking how many people just wont do that.
And they could chant "guillotine" after anything I say. I guess that would be THEIR preconceived notion.
We need more people like this instead of the current politicians and pundits that have demonized their opponents to the point of people outright hating each other over their political beliefs. We have lost the ability to peacefully disagree and listen to each other's points and present a level-headed, rational counterpoint. Now it's shouting, name-calling, fear-mongering, etc.It wasn’t that long ago that people with different opinions on any topic could have a civilized conversation or debate and walk away friends. Now we are so polarized that even families at Thanksgiving have to list which topics are not allowed to be discussed. Our political leaders are setting bad examples for everyone and encouraging verbal and physical confrontation if someone has a different opinion. I prefer the old way and respecting that others may have a different view than mine. The dialogue on both sides has gotten more militant and no one in power is trying to cool it down.
So extremist liberals who helped get Dem SC nominees approved despite lying about how they would vote in the future are more to the point? Come on now. You can't be that stupid. The level of abuse leveled against SC nominees by Republicans is off the chart. You had crazy Dr Ford, who had her social media scrubbed in advance of her fantasy claims, being called a hero by the MSM. Her own father had to apologize to Kav's dad at their country club. And then they sought to pack the court by enlarging it during a Dem presidency. Fair play? But but but we are so virtuous. Look at us.
This will never happen. Please describe the "effort" you mention. One congressman? Just like the extreme congressmen who wanted to defund the police? Again, if abortion is restricted who ends up surviving? Primarily infants of color. Are you a hypocrite who wants to snuff them out? Great guy you are.

Or their wallets. Witness how much people shriek when gas prices go up, as if price fluctuations aren't inevitable in a market economy.Nothing riles up the righties like capitalism existing and having effects on the market that don't align with feigned pseudo religion.
The Democrats have a lot of to deal with - fighting off an increasingly intolerant left. The GOP, OTOH, has to find a way to shake off the cult of Trumpism. That's going to be a long slog. Both parties need to take a big step back from the edge. Unfortunately, money drive politics (increasingly dark money).
Doesn't matter what he thinks or what you or I think about it. It only matters what the pregnant woman, inside of whom resides whatever it is, thinks. That’s just a restatement of my question.
At what point does a fetus obtain all the rights of a person?
Please feel free to substitute the word “should” for does if it makes it easier.
So then you're all for having your taxes raised to provide for all those unwanted children, right? Surely you're not hypocritical enough to want to see a fetus delivered only to abandon it at birth. Either you care about life, which includes the living not just fetuses, or you don't.This will never happen. Please describe the "effort" you mention. One congressman? Just like the extreme congressmen who wanted to defund the police? Again, if abortion is restricted who ends up surviving? Primarily infants of color. Are you a hypocrite who wants to snuff them out? Jim Harbaugh should win a Presidential Medal:
