This information is only telling half the story. His mother called ....and told him NO, NOT RUTGERS.
Duke has an opening in their janitorial services corps.

Pikiell is definitely an upgrade over what we have now (who isn't), but as noted above, 11 years at a mid-major without a sniff isn't a good selling point. I would also ask how much his recent success is attributable to his one monster player? Unlike a Hurley, there is no evidence that this guy has ever recruited over the level of his program.

I don't see any great outcomes here once one assumes, as I do, that Lonergan will not leave his sinecure at GW at a time when he has 5 kids not out of school, for a program like ours.

Just watched him on ESPN a few minutes ago. Pushing for Marijjuana to become
a legalized recreational drug . His reasoning? Because he became addicted
to drugs that were prescribed to him by doctors, so if those drugs were so bad
and they were legalized why not legalize something not as dangerous.
Glad we passed on him.

Once again Rutgers is made to look like a fool as candidates that were interviewed want their name withdrawn from consideration.

This ^^^^^
Screw him. Why should we worry about letting him "save face" for a job he was probably never even a serious candidate for. All that does is reinforce the idea that this is not a desirable job. And I don't care about him building himself up as a potential coach for somewhere next year. He's not qualified for the job anyway.

Anyone that can earn more "likes" than posts on this Board merits serious consideration.

I doubt Pakiell will out recruit St.Johns,Seton Hall and Villanova for the best NJ/NY recruits and that doesn't even include the elite schools like Duke,Kentucky and North Carolina.

Exactly what we needed...a guy who played within walking distance of RU, wouldn't consider playing for RU, and tossed his name in the ring as Jordan's replacement. Yeah, that's the guy some of you wanted. Fools.

Somewhere out there John Celestand is also removing his name from consideration as well.

Exactly, RUnTeX. I covered both way back when as a high school sports writer and both were outstanding guys and players; but I first don't buy Williams' timeline for reasons (strip FT shooting, as he responded to me on Twitter last night) he bypassed RU.

Do I blame him for picking Duke? Absolutely not; he was a star play. Much as Villanova was a tremendous choice for Celestand. Hard to begrudge those choices.

What I do find irritating is our fan base and media buying into Williams as a coaching candidate -- a guy with zero experience and who bypassed playing at RU. I think the latter point (more than the former) undermines what little credibility he'd have to recruits' families for "why pick Rutgers".

Plus, it's an utter insult to guys who've been in the coaching profession (at times for decades toiling for decades as assistance or building lower-level programs) for Williams to even ponder a candidacy, even if just on the Stephen A. Smith show.

The recent board posts here are so infuriating to me; that some fans bought into such b.s.; or waiting on Zag's every word, most of which is nonsense (e.g. a source tells me RU is high on Greg Popovich).

IMHO, we're too low-budget (literally and mentally) to go and approach a Mark Few and double his salary or pitch a Mick Cronin who's a perennial NCAA Tourney coach but in a perceived lesser conference; but we're also too "above" going to a Kevin Boyle, who probably out-recruits any college coach in the tri-state area. So we don't want to spend for a bonafide coach but we don't want someone who maybe brings a spotty reputation for dealings w/sneaker money, AAU types, etc. but can win. Instead our fans and some media pine for two generations worth of Hurleys who can give a rat's *** about our school, and "safe" bargain types like Mike Lonergan.

I think we're absolutely foolish in general, but even more so if we don't kick the tires w/Boyle, who has coveted connections to St. Pat's types, and let him throw money to get a Shaheen Holloway who clearly can recruit the local scene.
