Is a travel

That step back three is clearly a travel. Any college player who wants to adopt that shot shouldn't. Sometimes it's more obvious, such as that last one he made tonight. But hey, if they allow you to fake left, then take 2 steps back or to your right, it's easy to get a shot off.

And his last play in this game was an obvious charge. But you think they're calling that at Houston? Not a chance.

It’s a big *** travel. Harden is a tremendous offensive player though even without that four step and hip move. He’s basically playing showtime lakers so obvious Houston probably not gonna win this series so I hope OP finds solace in that.

Also.. I hope that piece of **** Draymond tears his entire knee into pieces.. Guy can't go a single game without trying to injure someone.. Harden, LeBron, JJ.. Scratches their eyes.. Seriously? Get polio.

How TF anyone can root for GSW is beyond me. I don't get it.

If it's a travel then so is every layup shot in the last 50 years.

You can gather and take two steps. going backward instead of forward doesn't change that.
Hey Gonzo, the 2 steps are allowed on a shot moving toward the basket, but not on one 25 feet from the basket going backwards. It's a travel. If he picked up his dribble as he was doing a jump step backwards (where both feet land simultaneously), then it would be legal. That may have been what he initially was trying to do there, but that's not what he's doing now. I think his "move" has evolved. Haha! Now, he's picking up his dribble and taking 2 steps back and to his right. It's an obvious travel.

By the way, I really don't care about the NBA. I watch some of the playoffs at times. But I do have a passion for the game, as many others here do, and for the rules of the game. Harden is breaking those rules and being cheered like a hero. What a joke!

No doubt, he's a great offensive player, one of the best in the league in an isolation. He's nearly impossible to guard, but if you let him get away with that move, he's unguardable.

Anyone here ever wonder why we've never seen this move before? In all these years, no other NBA great has come up with this move. Not Jordan, not Larry Bird, nobody. Know why? It's not because Harden is a genius of basketball moves. It's Because the move isn't legal. Haha!

My personal opinion is they haven’t played actual basketball in the NBA in 25 years. The refs seem better in the NBA because they let so much slide. I agree with you on Harden. He’s just the tip of the iceberg though.

According to the NBA rulebook it is not a travel. The first step is considered a “gather step” followed by the step back. You can whine about it, but it not being called is correct.
Kingofcali, you're describing a move toward the basket where someone is about to finish at the goal. It's all in one motion, moving toward the goal. This is not the same thing being done by Harden.

Lol come on IL. You get two steps. Doesn’t matter which direction they’re going or if they’re a foot from the basket or 90 feet from the basket. Jordan, Bird and so on never did it because they didn’t think to. Same way people didn’t think to do the euro step until about a decade ago. The game evolves and so does players movesets.

As for the series in general, I’m in a weird spot. I’ve hated the warriors for years now due to Green and the fact that they seem to be bigger crybabies each year, but I want DMC to get a ring. And sure as hell don’t want GSW to lose because I’d bet anything Cousins would get a big chunk of the blame even though he’s not even playing.

Btw the last Harden drive was probably a charge, but given Green’s reaction I’m glad nothing was called. I’ve never seen a play happen where a team just stops moving because they’re shocked they didn’t get a call. Lol what a joke. The Warriors should be thankful if they ever get a good whistle again after the game a month or two ago when Steph and a couple others openly mocked the refs during a game. That team’s ego is absurd. They think they’re untouchable.

When a player ends his dribble, he is allowed two steps to come to a stop, pass or shoot.

That’s the official NBA rule it doesn’t have to be going towards the basket and the reason others didn’t do it was because it wasn’t changed until 2009

This is absurd. There is no rule distinction between going forward or backward. Two steps is two steps. It doesn't matter what direction you're going, it's still two steps.

Here is the NBA rulebook chapter on violations.

https://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_10.html

If you look at section 14, traveling, there is no mention of moving toward the basket. What may be confusing for you is they call out “in advance” which you may interpret as moving toward the basket but in actuality it means moving in the direction of their momentum.

I thought his biggest move was the push off.

Regardless, because the NBA is called consistently, albeit poorly, it is much nicer to watch than the Uncaa now days because college ball is officiated poorly, AND inconsistently.

“Gather” is a stupid NBA term. In real basketball you are allowed 2 steps, otherwise it is a walk. Done.

Lol, OP is wrong but continues to argue his point. Sad!

Op, you tried, but let this one go. Stick to analyzing Kentucky games as if you are Seth Greenburg. That’s your “shtick”.

Created that account just to say that?

The OP is dead on. NBA is full of finishing moves that are walks. You need to pay better attention to when the dribble stops. 3 doesn’t not equal 2.

I don't disagree. But why create a whole new account just to post this?

You're obviously a regular here, but seemingly too chickenshit to post this under your usual name. Why? Is it because he's a mod?

Think Bird actually patented the “step back” move. Greatest ever in my opinion.

It's not three, it's two. As @GonzoCat90 noted earlier, if Harden's step back is travelling, then so are most layups and dunks we've seen for decades.

Because that's all Harden's really doing, he's using the same two steps after the pullup that have always been allowed, but instead doing of doing it on drives he's doing it going backwards. And instead of dunking or laying up after those two steps, he's launching a 25 footer.

It just looks weird to us, because we've become accustomed to only seeing those two steps taken going forward on drives. And because it looks weird, we assume it's illegal. But it's not. Quite legal under the rules.

No I just create accounts on here all the time to chastise posters on this board. Mainly posters with delusions of grandeur when it comes to Cal and UK. Those who predict every year that Cal and UK are going to win it, and those who “mob mentality” any poster who questions Cal’s philosophies, particularly as it relates to one and done.

I especially like to chastise posters that don’t understand that Cal gives playing time preference to those players with the highest NBA draft aspirations, even when it’s to the detriment of the team.

I especially like coming on after a loss to stir the pot. And I especially like coming here after being yet again bounced from the tournament to remind you guys that Cal will NEVER win another title because he’s a subpar coach that absolutely and stubbornly refuses to make in-game adjustments to win a game. For instance Auburn’s guards were unstoppable and continued torching us to the basket with zero adjustment ah-la some kind of zone. And before you say “they shoot the three too well to zone!” It doesn’t matter. You still throw zone for at least a possession or two just to give them a different look. And then go back man. Damn, any coach worth their salt knows this.

Texas Tech’s coach, with no where near the talent, took his team all the way to the final and damn near won it. He switched defenses left and right in the Middle of the game, sometimes in the middle of a possession. It’s coaching 101, but Cal is incapable.

Anyway, enjoy hanging up draft pick banners. UK is NBA developmental league anymore and that’s it. It used to be more. It used to be special. Have fun on draft night. I’ll be back to give you guys a reality

That you Tom Crean? Exactly the sort of thing that creepy little coward would say. We expect this from CLODites though. Their entitled, unrealistic and asinine opinions are so embarrassing that they often lack the courage to claim them.

You know, just like you did.

I wonder if there was this much uproar with the first “in and out” move or behind the back dribble? Every player pushes the envelope to get as much as possible within the rules. Offensive and defensive guys all do it. Then people get mad at Harden because it “looks “ funny.

You need to watch exactly with the dribble is picked up. Thing the NBA has become nothing more than a venue to showcase offensive moves because that is what the fans like. Won’t be long until ‘Shake and Bake’ becomes a thing in basketball too.

I get you enjoy watching what the NBA is doing. Just don’t confuse it with basketball.

the whole thing with traveling. no one is right or wrong here because the nba doesn’t call it. somewhere in the mid to late 90’s, probably when guys like ai came in, they stopped calling it the same.

you use to have a step while you secure the ball and one step after the plant. so the securing of the ball and the first step happened almost simultaneously. now you get two steps after the plant. and many times the ball isn’t even fully secured before the first step because they’re bringing it back in from a crossover etc. to people who watched the game before the late 90’s it regularly appears guys are talking 3 and 4 steps (the foot shuffle to square the shot not even being considered).

the nba allows three steps and has for a long time and it doesn’t bother me anymore. but four is ridiculous. there’s no way you should have to learn defensive timing 3 different ways in your adult playing career and expect to be effective without ample time to fail. this is not good for the game.

James Harden, Reggie Miller, and Dwayne Wade may be my 3 least favorite NBA players I can recall.

Their patented move is to sell fouls.

What?? Reggie was fantastic! He was entertaining, could play both ends of the court, was clutch, and is in the trash talk HOF. Harden and Reggie are nothing alike.
