I'm 51 years old. I graduated from UK nearly three decades ago (hence, why my user name is UK90). You are barking totally up the wrong tree here by trying to portray me as some sort out out of touch mlllennial.

I did not take issue with your posts because of any sort of generational bias, instead I did so because your posts were wrong and dumb to informed intelligent people of ANY generation.

So you propose that the sole motivation of the NBA is something other than money which drives their whimsical rule making and detached officiating.

Right...... pretty much any moron knows that has been the NBAs motivation for decades. Favor the offense because the pedestrian fans want it. And that have done so without regard to the integrity of the game.

Guess you don't have to be a millennial to behave like one.

But otherwise sucked to watch......

THAT is the NBA mantra. Got nothing to do with basketball. Everything you stated is a lot more applicable to fan candy than it is basketball.

What had evolved is an understanding of what sells tickets, not what makes for effective basketball.

You got a very basic concept exactly backwards. Harden scores more points per possession on step back 3s than the best offense in the NBA does overall, and much more than the best post-ups. As this thread has made abundantly clear, Harden iso-ing for 15 seconds and launching a step back 3 is not what sells tickets at all, and in fact it is the opposite, but it's used precisely because it is effective basketball. I get that you're all riled up about kids on your lawn, but there's no excuse to get a simple idea backwards. At least read the linked piece, FFS.

Anyone that doesn't understand this very elementary concept is spewing illogical idiocy, as you say. Further, they have comically deceived themselves to think this generation is "special." Its not. Get over yourself.

Live in your fantasy. You merely prove my point. ESPN and the NBA got the ring in your nose for sure and laughably so.

Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand. If you want to understand why you're wrong, you could look at the article I linked on Harden's step back 3s, Kirk Goldberry's book (and articles and podcast appearances) talking about the history of NBA rule changes (hint: the NBA has always evolved the rules), tons of smart and informed analysis from many other sources about changes to the game (both backwards and forwards looking) and have an understanding of basic concepts like points per possession on different types of plays. In other words, take a dose of humble pie and read what informed people have studied and written about.

Or you could keep wrapping yourself in ignorance while yelling loudly that others just don't understand. You do you.

Got gravity on my side here. Supply and demand. NBA augments the rules and the game to maximize demand. So simple a caveman can understand it. Not sure what your issue is.

Further, I suggest you learn to read. At no point did I suggest Hardin himself was concerned with demand. It is the rules and how they are applied that makes interests the league and how those make cash roll into their pockets. Truly, not much room for debate here. I’d recommend you get off your high horse and pseudo intellectual drivel and follow the money. You won’t need Goldberry to think for you then.

You're conflating issues. The issue I responded to was why Harden was taking step back 3s when earlier generations did not. He's doing them because they're smart basketball plays, which you apparently rejected (evidence to the contrary notwithstanding). You're now arguing about why the NBA makes rule changes generally and historically. No kidding the NBA is trying to improve demand by improving and changing the game, which is something they've been doing since at least George Mikan. I guess congratulations are in order for making a basic and undisputed point in a thread that is not about that issue.

But let's see where it goes in relation to the thread titled "James Hardens Patented Move." What part of Harden's step back 3s are brought about by rule changes (or enforcement changes) by the NBA to drive viewership, and which changes are those? Because the consensus - as seen on this thread and in damn near every non-Houston Rockets forum in existence - is that it's not good for viewership, and the evidence is crystal clear that it's an effective basketball play. So your argument is internally inconsistent vis-a-vis the issue at hand.

As regards your last diatribe, very simple. Sometimes he walks. Refs give him and many others a pass. Why? its good for the league.

Is taking multiple steps good basketball? If over and above that allowed by the rules, no. Is it good for the gate and/or viewership? Of course.

Fine, but then take away every transition basket in NCAA and high school history because without a gather, every pass ahead results in a travel.

You are marking no sense whatsoever. You get two steps. Period. That's the way basketball has always been played until the street ball rules were adopted. You could technically call a palm everytime someone crosses over now as well as the ball clearly comes to a rest.

I think the instance you are referring to was Bradley Beal... which they attributed to the possibility of him “fumbling” the ball not a gather. Even they admitted the fumbling was a stretch.

You are correct. My mistake. Watching them on Twitter try to justify that was flat comedy lol
