I talked with a friend of mine who is a BIG ref who has been doing a few practices in Lincoln. He says Weaver was just blowing up the Husker OL. It didn't matter who he was going against. Said Nebraska's D is good. Much better than last year. My friend was in Iowa City today doing a practice. Thinks Iowa could be better than last year.

Prediction: We do not hear about Weaver the entire season.

Prediction: Watching and Iowa vs Iowa practice would make it very difficult to tell anything at all since it was probably watching Iowa punt on 4th and 1 at the 50 and the defense playing 15 yards off the ball hoping the offense ***** up.

I’m guessing he’s blowing up the backup team offensive line..

Let’s be specific here he never referred to it as the starting offensive line..

Sounds to good to be true. Hope he isn't trained to play patty cake with opposing OL.

I remember his film was him running around on the field looking like someone's dad had suited up in a Pee Wee league game. Rivals ratings are funny like that. 5'5" 150 pounds scoring 50 TDs against 9th graders? 4 stars Wandale Robinson Tyjon Lindsey. 6'7" 300 pounds with athleticism and huge upside? 3 stars.

He should not be evaluating talent and how good a team is expected to be. That is an indicator of a ref who ends up biased come game time. Not surprised the holding calls end up like they do in the big 10 if refs have expectations going into games.

Tellin ya .over 6.5 wins . Lock it up
I did .

Similar post were made the last 3 years. We have enough talent to win 7 games but when you take in to account Nebraska has the worst HC in the West all bets are thrown out the window.

IF he's a b1g official no wonder the defense looked good. Probably throwing holding flags every other play from scrimmage

More like 6'9 and 330 lbs with athleticism, why I find it hard to believe we could be so fortunate.

Not expectations but orders and job security to obey BIG orders.

Sure, hasn't played a down at Nebraska and let's slate him for the NFL. Got it.
True freshman right? 6-8, 320 lbs. This guy was one of the guys who I think it was Kakdawg said was the guy he was most excited about and was a must get. It isn't unusual to see a true freshman not appear in the top 2 of the depth chart especially given all the returning experience on the D line. I think it's fine to be excited about a guy who is showing up on the D line as a true freshman when he's making plays in practice. It will be a little easier to project where he lands in regards to the NFL once he shows up against B1G O lines.

For you guys bashing the ref for evaluating talent…
The Athletic did an article about officials who work teams’ practices and the article talked about how the officials were the most accurate in predicting the season outcome, better than any preseason mags. They know what they are looking at & if you are consistently watching reps over & over again, and doing it for multiple teams, you are going to see things more than anybody. And you can officiate & still see those things, it doesn’t mean you are bad at your job.
I can almost guarantee you the officials working these practices know more about your team than you or people who cover it. The media is kicked out of practice and doesn’t see anything of importance. The officials there see 100% of everything. And they are qualified to understand what is happening.

I heard Weaver's body needs work including conditioning and that he's raw technique wise. So I doubt he sees a single snap. But it's great to hear about a young kid showing promise.

Plus these officials can give an unbiased observation while the local media really needs to add to the hype to get more people reading their stuff. An article about a recruit is considering Nebraska goes a lot further than a reality based article that says NU has only got a 5% chance.

There's no reason why you wouldn't try to get him his four games of playing time at a minimum. Turn him loose on Fordham and then whatever else makes sense down the road.

I get pumping the brakes on the hype train for a guy who hasn't played. On the other hand, none of us would have to think too long to come up with names of guys who were all but invisible at Nebraska but ended up having decent NFL careers. It highlights our biggest issues the last decade... lack of development and getting the most out of guys.

B1G ref? Did you ask him if he called any holding calls in our scrimmage?

JOKE. He's bad at his job because he's a Big 10 official. Get it? Jeebus people.

You gotta admit the b1g officials haven't been stellar in our games. Also they better be throwing the flags in practice. Now if they are AND we're not adjusting or changing than that's squarely on coaches and players.

That said I am getting sick and tired of watching our d linemen getting mauled and pulled to the ground and we get flagged for holding every other drive (or so it would seem).

Refs that do practices can knowingly or unknowingly get biased on what they see and look for it specifically in games. They also talk to other crews as well and the bias spreads.

As long as they're consistent, it's up to you to adjust. Just like a strike zone as long as it's the same for both lineups
