Seriously, did none of you read the article about how the kid showed up at like 400 lbs?

JFC…

He showed up at 400 pounds and they still couldn't block him out of shape? Is there a Jailen Weaver cryptocurrency because I would like to buy all of it right now.

Yeah I don't get this one. Tuioti was on a show not long ago, didn't sound pleased about his weight. He had "trimmed down" to 380 at that point and reportedly had the lateral movement of a tortoise.

You gotta admit the b1g officials haven't been stellar in our games. Also they better be throwing the flags in practice. Now if they are AND we're not adjusting or changing than that's squarely on coaches and players.

That said I am getting sick and tired of watching our d linemen getting mauled and pulled to the ground and we get flagged for holding every other drive (or so it would seem).

Refs that do practices can knowingly or unknowingly get biased on what they see and look for it specifically in games. They also talk to other crews as well and the bias spreads.

As long as they're consistent, it's up to you to adjust. Just like a strike zone as long as it's the same for both lineups
Well, to be honest, everyone complained about the officials in the Big 12 as well so I don't really think any one conference is better than another. If there is evidence of that, I would like to see it.

You do know that holding is allowed right?? Our OL holds a lot of the time as well. When it will get called is when the D player is trying to make a play, get around a player and his movement or progress is impeded. Unfortunately, our DL goes straight ahead occupying one or two blockers which makes holding much less likely to be called. If a D lineman goes against a O lineman, the O lineman gets his hands inside and can hold all day long until the D lineman attempts to move to the side or get around the O lineman.

I have known way too many officials, both HS and small college in my life to think they can be biased. Now, if a team teaches a certain way and they are on the fringe of penalties on most every snap, sure, but that is a different deal. Officials are looking for specific actions and they know their works is being filmed and scrutinized, especially the B1G. I can just here the B1G officials having a Monday morning conference call telling all the other officials around the league, scattered over several states what to look for on a certain team.

Show me an O lineman with great technique and I can almost guarantee you he will not have many holding calls because he moves his feet and uses his hands well. Also show me a D lineman that is fast, has all the elusive moves and I bet he has a ton of holding calls on the guys assigned to block him.

I got a ref story.

Years ago I was standing on the sidelines of a game, just sort of hanging out, we did not play that week and I was just killing some time. One team was up like 40-0 with just a few minutes left. The team that was up still had a few starters in, like their stud RB.

He gets free on a sweep and breaks one for about 50 yards and a TD, ref drops a flag and called holding (I think) and as he jogged by me the ref that dropped the flag goes "That kid didn't need to be in the game still".

Two plays later the game was in the books. But that ref must have felt that the team getting killed had had enough.

I've witnessed too many on TV and in person at games that I will respectfully disagree with you and that's totally fine.

Long before we got into the b1g I always felt the big 12 officials were crooked and big ten were just flat out bad.

We both agree that the good players get fewer flags. I've witnessed that from my high school playing days through my highschool coaching days until today.

Some of it falls squarely on ourselves (Husker players/coachi) . You've gotta move your feet, keep your hands inside the frame. Even in highschool you can get away with grabbing the jersey if you're locked in AND you're hands aren't outside the frame. I would love to be an offensive lineman in this day and age. The final step is you e gotta be smart enough to let go and slide your body down on theirs if you're losing leverage.

I heard Weaver's body needs work including conditioning and that he's raw technique wise. So I doubt he sees a single snap. But it's great to hear about a young kid showing promise.
I wish I could remember who it was who was so high on Weaver when he committed. All I know is that he was one of our posters not normally prone to hype and that I normally put more stock in what he says. You can't teach that kind of size with athleticism to go with it.

He said Weaver was blowing up the Husker OL and it didn't matter who he was going against.
You read it your way I’ll read my way..If that‘s the case I’ll bet you that during the first game that he doesn’t see the field if he’s that good…

Anybody who doesn't think Pelini earned a few extra penalties on his squads by attacking the refs is in denial.

He doesn’t even have a picture on the roster, but he is playing on Sundays! Ok
As was posted. He's a secret weapon. Watch for him on the field goal block team. BTW, go back and look at rosters all the way back to the 70s. Almost none of the incoming freshmen had pictures on the rosters.

There's no reason why you wouldn't try to get him his four games of playing time at a minimum. Turn him loose on Fordham and then whatever else makes sense down the road.
I agree. But I'm just going by past history. There's been a lot of talk about redshirts rising up to get snaps in 4 games, but in reality it doesn't happen much especially with linemen. There's either too many people ahead of them or the games are too close to allow for a meaningful number of snaps. If a kid is 3rd string, they can't play more than the 2nd teamer otherwise you're asking for problems.

I talked with a friend of mine who is a BIG ref who has been doing a few practices in Lincoln. He says Weaver was just blowing up the Husker OL. It didn't matter who he was going against. Said Nebraska's D is good. Much better than last year. My friend was in Iowa City today doing a practice. Thinks Iowa could be better than last year.
If we put him in the game, will your friend call holding against one of our opponents?

If he can stuff the run, put him in. Illinois has averaged 297 yards in the past three meeting on the ground against NU. Lovie's guys found a way to crease us every year. STOP THE RUN! STEP THE RUN!! STOP THE RUN!!!

I remember his film was him running around on the field looking like someone's dad had suited up in a Pee Wee league game. Rivals ratings are funny like that. 5'5" 150 pounds scoring 50 TDs against 9th graders? 4 stars Wandale Robinson Tyjon Lindsey. 6'7" 300 pounds with athleticism and huge upside? 3 stars.
This is one of the many reasons why you can’t give too much credence to recruiting rankings.
