Is it better to needlessly sit possibly the team's best shooter or have him in the rotation and just not get him the ball? Pike's lack of motion / ball movement on offense and substitution patterns have been sh*t. Get Jones meaningful minutes or he very well may suit-up for another team next season.

Stands in one spot on offense.
You think he’d do that with Rick Pitino coaching him, no chance

He is arguably our best pure shooter. But see above. Hot garbage on D.

He didn't move on offense either. It's hard to get him shots if he just stands there, and has to be told to move(which did happen)
Agreed. Too much isolation ball. But...when he was in, he rarely touched the ball on offense. Meanwhile, Caleb can't hit the broadside of a barn.

lmfao...kid makes a mistake and is yanked

best shooter on the team

if this keeps up, he will be out the door
Agreed. And, if Pike can't consistently recruit B1G caliber players on the heels of the APC and NCAA's...well, we're f*cked.

I think part of the problem is that Pike's brand of defense-first basketball doesn't resonate with coveted recruits.

You know, there are such things as “snipers” or “pure scorers” on basketball teams. Not everybody has to play outstanding defense on most teams to be part of a rotation.

Can we run ******* set plays to give the kid a few open jumpers maybe? Instead of McConnell coming off screens can it be him?

How quickly we forget how much of a HOT GARBAGE defender Quincy Douby was his freshman and parts of his sophomore years, and Douby wasn't even as highly recruited as Jaden. It didn't stop him from playing 25 minutes a game, shooting 69-162 42% from 3 his freshman year, 35 minutes his sophomore 66-195 33.8% and 35 minutes, 116-289 40.1% from 3, his Jr year. Yes I think Jaden can become as good a shooter as Quincy was if given the chance.

So because Douby improved as an offensive players, that necessarily means a player 15-20 years later unconnected to Douby whatsoever will do the same thing??? Where does Rutgers get these fans? They're living in some delusional world from 25 years ago with the lowest possible expectations of RU, and will create any narrative to justify their blind support of a team that is playing poorly. I truly believe some RU fans are just fine with Rutgers as a irrelevant athletic school as long as we field some occasionally decent teams.

We certainly NEED Jones to give us good minutes, but I’m a little concerned about his body language. Seems a little aloof and not a hustler.

Jones is not Douby. If Douby was a good defender he might have played in the NCAAs.

Jones is called out because he stands in one spot on offense. Hilarious. There is no movement in our so called “offense”. It’s an occasional high post screen and a bunch of one on one moves.

Posters want him to shoot more, but he doesn't get the ball very often because he just stands there and the defense doesn't have to work very hard on him.

For being here a half season already, he doesn't seem to have gotten fundamental concepts of what we do yet.

Work in progress - and he clearly has shooting talent - but he needs to get up that learning curve pretty quickly to see more than maybe 10 minutes a game.

On ball defense, help defense, rebounding, passing, moving without the ball, setting screens, using screens.... these aren't just "fundamental concepts we do", but simply "fundamental concepts".

This was the first game I was able to watch, after listening to the first 3 on the radio. I didn't have names/faces/numbers put together yet for the new players, and I saw one guy who was completely out of sorts and seemed lost..... he was bigger, so I assumed this was Agee since people were getting on Agee in the game threads. Nope - Jones. Totally bewildered out there in the early going.

The only person on the team rebounding less than Jones is Baker (on a per 40 min basis). He's the only rotational player without an assist (Palmquist is the only other player not to have one, but he's only played 3 minutes).

He's got a pretty shot, though - and he needs to take more of them. But you have to move without the ball to get a shot. You have to make a move to lose your defender, to come around a screen, to do something.... just waiting around hoping your defender sags off you isn't really cutting it.

Ron, Caleb, Paul and Geo have had to direct Jalen on offensive plays in the first four games. He’s gonna be a good player and he is smooth with a great touch but he isn’t there yet on O and D.

I noticed that. How much is on Jaden though and how much is on the coaches? He is not the only player that resembles a statue in our iso offense.

Given that Pike has had decent defensive teams in the past without strong individual defensive players I'd pin all blame on the player.
It's Pike's job to motivate our players. So either his messaging isn't resonating or he's not recruiting the right players. There's no excuse for our season to-date.

He did, both within the same game minute mid-way through the first half.

The first was on a missed FT, when the ball was touched by no one and bounced back to the FT line, where Jones picked it up. The second was batted under the basket by Mag and bounced out to him at the sideline.

Both heads up plays to get to loose balls that were bouncing on the court, and both credited as rebounds.

Was good to see, since he'd had just one defensive rebound coming into the day... again not taking it off the rim, but corralling a shot that Mulcahy had blocked.

He has a ways to go - and you can tell he doesn't really feel comfortable out there yet. More game reps will help, ideally in a game where we aren't life-or-death and some miscues aren't going to kill us.

No one on this team moves on offense. It’s coaching. Dribble dribble dribble dribble. Everyone stands around.

Hell even the announcer was ripping us early in the game about it.
I get your point but those announcers were ******** awful.
