Just from the clips I heard - that was my thought. Another lockdown is coming. The average daily cases have basically doubled over the last ~2 weeks.
Once it starts impacting the hospitals, which it sounds like is beginning to happen, they've got to do something or it's going to get really ugly.
A statewide ENFORCED mask order would be more effective than what we did last time. WE also HAVE to get people to stop gathering in large groups, even in private homes.Just from the clips I heard - that was my thought. Another lockdown is coming. From what I have read, Normal for a ICU pre covid was about 60-80% full. The staff and equipment is not cheap. What was the hospital situation like before the pandemic? I've seen some reports (whether true or false) that hospitals stay near full in normal situations. Before all this happened, my grandmother had to wait on an ICU bed at her regional hospital.
Talked to a friend this morning. His mother had a heart attack a few days ago. No hospital beds in Jackson so she's been sent to Hattiesburg. Thankfully, she'll be OK, but it looks like the hospital situation here is getting pretty serious.

Did Mississippi create a 'surge' buffer of ICU beds? Because in Texas I know that we're officially over our capacity but because there were a number of beds set up specifically for COVID-19 we're still not quite at the edge yet and we would be in so, so much more trouble if that buffer wasn't there.
So usually when I see people reporting stuff as over capacity they're talking about the normal ICU capacity but not taking into account the extra beds that have been set up.
The biggest concerns hospitals have right now is they are understaffed because of cutbacks of hours..not the lack of ICU beds.... and that comes from someone i am married to that is currently on her 25Th year of working at one and sees the census on a daily basis..
The obvious question is what % of those are due to COVID and specifically increase in COVID patients
It's almost as though for-profit healthcare isn't working...
If only there was an alternative to the scourge of for-profit healthcare. IF only we could have set up a non-profit hospital in our capital city affiliated with a state university. If we had that, they'd surely be run really well and they certainly wouldn't have laid people off, because if you aren't worried about profit, that means you don't have to worry about money, apparently. Would be even better if it could be supplemented it with a hospital or two started as volunteer/charitable organizations affiliated with religious groups.

Reeves said yesterday some or all of the state is headed to mandatory masks and distancing.
Dobbs said it was foolish of people to not sanitize, wear masks, and avoid gatherings.
I hate to say it but we’re heading towards another lockdown.
No, this is what happens when govt intervenes and shuts down the country and economy. We're feeling some effects of the "cure"...
