Two former basketball athletes at Brown University have filed a class-action lawsuit against the Ivy League for not offering athletic scholarships. The claim states that by not offering scholarships, the league is effectively ‘price fixing’ and limiting an athlete’s financial aid and/or payment for services.

The Ivy League has not offered athletic scholarships since the 1950’s. Ivy schools have other financial arrangements available for athletes that need aid.

I think this is an absurd lawsuit.

Brown is over 80K a year and as some trivia it is the easiest Ivy for a male to get into. I think the suit should be tossed as well. Do some of these kids realize they would have never gotten the opportunity to go to their school without athletics. They also have to realize that very few programs are cash flow positive and I am pretty sure Brown would not be.

NCAA made $1.14 billion in revenue in 2022 alone. They signed a $10.8B contract for March Madness TV rights.

Exactly. If you expect an athletic scholarship at an Ivy League school you are too stupid to get into an Ivy Leage school.

I agree Kg3.....screw them. They went to Brown knowingly without a scholly. Then they should not have gone there. I thought the Ivy league didn't hand out scholarships.

It's calculated as a fraction of the lowest officer salary (Ensign, 2nd LT). But it's not totally disposable.
There are some required expenses that have to be paid out of that.
