IU has a few years to make this a relevant game. They wanted it now it’s up to them to make it s big time game.

Nothing good will come of us doing this. Cal once again bows to the Vitales of the world. Absolutely nothing to gain by playing that sad sack of **** program. We should get a charitable deduction for even entertaining it. Calipari is a carpetbagger by definition. They come from the North down south to spread their infinite wisdom and unlimited knowledge on us poor hillbilly folk. He’s never, since he’s been here, understood what Kentucky Basketball means to Kentuckians. He rubbed shoulders with Joe B but none of it clicked with him. He’s always had a disconnect with the fans. He think if he is flashy, gets top recruits, turns them into high draft picks, then that satisfies us. He couldn’t be further from the truth. Once again he lets others prod him into scheduling a has been program that hasn’t been relative for over 35 years. Why don’t we schedule DePaul? Why not Cincinnati? What can we possibly gain by playing those hayseeds? Someone enlighten me.

IU has a few years to make this a relevant game.
* They had their best player in a decade, since Cody Zeller, last year and finished 9th in the Big Ten and got beat by 30 points by St. Mary's in the tourney. He's gone after this year.
* They have a coach with one-year's college experience who will be pushing 70 if he still has the job when the series resumes.
* In the last six years, they have finished 9th or worse in the conference FIVE TIMES (7th the other year.)
* Longer term, this will mark their 30th year with ONE finish beyond the NCAA Sweet 16.
* And none of their fans under 40 can remember ANY kind of tourney title - even the Big Ten Tourney.

They are a sad sack program that long ago forfeited elite status and of no distinction since the days the Berlin Wall was intact and a fresh young thing named Madonna burst on the scene.

I guess it is possible they do enough in three years to make it a relevant game. But I'm going to say highly unlikely.

It's a terrible move to put those turds back on the schedule. It will bite UK in the butt. They are a has-been program with garbage fans. Why help out a dying program?
Also, it is VERY possible that Calipari isn't even at UK when the series resumes. We all know if UK gets a Title in the next couple of seasons he will retire.
Awful decision.

UK is the deepest team in the country. I can't even name IU's starting lineup. UK likely wins by 20 on neutral, 25 at home, and 15 on the road.
Race Thompson > Collins or Toppin
Trayce = Oscar
Johnson = Wheeler
Hood = Wallace
Kopp < Livingston
Reneau= Collins or Toppin
Geronimo > Thiero
Bates = Fredrick
Galloway > Reeves
We still have Banks Leal who will get some PT this year.

UK has a major drop off of talent beyond its starters, so I doubt it.

Not many teams don't have a major drop off in talent from starters to bench. UK actually has pretty good talent on bench especially considering the return of starters who were NPOY and a Cousy finalist.

UK's backups would give most teams Top 5 guys a fit.

Likely scholarship bench of:

Guards:
CJ Fredrick
-one of top 3 point shooters in country

Combos:
Chris Livingston
- Top 10 recruit

Jacob Toppin
- ready to burst on scene; brother of NPOY

Adou Thiero
- PG skills with body of a NBA small forward

Bigs:
Lance Ware
-3rd year backup big

Ugonna Kingsley
- 7'5" wingspan

With the game not being until 25-26, does that mean we have to suffer through the iu trolls posting the same crap here for the next few seasons?
It’s the perfect senario. IU can run their mouth all they want know they won’t play UK. They are the Tennessee football of college basketball.

Well since UK won a title in 12 I wouldn’t say both.
How ya figure? NCAAT games matter---as in IF you lose, you go home. What happens after that is irrelevant. JMO...You ask which team won vs the other, when it mattered---My answer was both----It mattered in 2012, and it mattered in 2016...

Regardless of what one might think...this is a good thing! This brings basketball back in time. I'm absolutely loving these original all-time matchups But I'm old school....

lol… if you think the stakes were the same for either team in those years, then your fan base is just as delusional as we say you are
Really? So in 2016, the stakes were different? Ok....Here I thought both teams were playing to try and advance...Get to a FF....I mean UK did win the SEC and the SECT....Beat Duke....lost a toughie in OT, @ Kansas...Was at one time ranked #1(3 weeks)....was in the Top 10 until Jan.....Entered NCAAT winners of 5 straight, and 7 of 8 games...

So what was different---Ya know, stakes wise? Was the NCAAT a double-elimination, format? I mean I get it---UK was a huge fav to win it all in 2012....SO I guess that changes things?

Anyways----the question was----"Who won, when it mattered". Both did. NCAAT matters, right? Lose---go home. Win, advance. That was all stil the same.
