Thank you for giving Michigan the karma they deserve. I come in peace, ever since last years matchup I have been beating the Iowa drum. I had hoped you could get by one of those tough ones and in into the playoffs. I couldnt help but watch and think, Iowa would be a problem for teams like Alabama, Texas AM and Oklahoma last season.

Enter 2026 and Im thinking why is nobody giving Iowa the respect they deserve? Why are they not being mentioned among the top 4 teams in this conference. Instead talking heads wanted to mention Penn State as their BIG sleeper to make the playoff. I just didnt see it, Iowa plays about as close to a Cignetti coached team as anyone in the country. We run the ball about 60% of the time, we try and play mistake free football, we rely on upperclassman in the trenches. We both rely heavily on our defense stopping the run 1st and foremost.

I am quietly rooting for Iowa to make that next move. So, I ventured to the upcoming schedule. I see the next two weeks as the most important weeks in recent memory for you guys. 1-1 in these two weeks and I see you being favored to win out. A 1 loss BIG team isnt missing the playoff. Your coaching staff will outclass and outcoach any remaining team on that schedule. The conference doesnt look to be what it was hyped up to be, so why not Iowa???

In today’s world of college football it means more than it ever has to keep rosters intact and continue to coach them up, to win at the line of scrimmage. The bluebloods cant stack a three deep of 4-5 star talent, parity is everywhere. I can appreciate a team of homegrown midwesterners with a chip on their shoulder playing their assignment making some noise. I hope as the season unfolds I get to see an SEC school slated to play in Kinnick in mid December as the final CFP bracket unveils. I’ll also say an extra prayer for what they would be in store for.

The alliance between Oregon, Indiana and Iowa remains strong.

Tall, tall task ahead next week. I'm terrified of Jerimiah Smith and I don't have to do anything but yell at him in the stands. I kind of hope we just see Hank Brown get a little more freedom and deep ball shots. Hoping he has earned their trust.

Indiana is going to be good again this year. Cig is a great coach and I love him. Demands accountability. He's my 2nd favorite Big Ten coach.

Thanks for the complimentary post Panther. The Big Ten didn't do Iowa any favors opening the conference at UM, vs. OSU, and at U-dub. Good luck to the Hoosiers and we'll see you in Bloomington next fall.

Win or lose OSU is only one game. It would be a great win but not the end of the world if Iowa comes up short. On the other hand, a second loss starts to make OSU chances to make the play off a little dicey.

Fantastic post. Many of us Iowa fans love what Cignetti has done at Indiana, and we hope Iowa can pick up some of that magic--this year even. Great to have your respect and support. You have the same from this Hawkeye fan.

Thanks for the well-wishes.

As far as why Iowa hasn't gotten the early season respect you mention is four-fold:
1) Large turnover on defense. Iowa has a history of excellent defense, of course, but this is the greenest defensive roster they've had in a while, particularly on DL.
2) Special teams. Lost our punter (transfer to Michigan St, following our Special Teams coach), kicker (NFL Commanders), and All-American KR/PR (NFL Steelers), not to mention we have a new long-snapper and holder,
3) As usual, QB questions. Iowa chose to stick with two 2025 transfers that were our QB2 and QB3 last season and had very little game experience instead of hitting the portal again. That strategy was called into question, but it looks like our OC knew what he was doing. I don't think we have a megastar at QB, but we have someone who can get us wins when the chips are down, which is something we haven't seen here for a while.
4) Well, we're Iowa; we rarely get early season respect.

I'm very interested (as most of the country is) to watch Indiana this year and see if they can stay strong. Staying on top is really, really hard to do.

BIG needs at least 4 strong candidates for playoff...right now OSU and IU are carrying the league banner...need 2 more to step up.

Iu 11-1
OSU 11-1
Iowa 11-1
Oregon 10-2

That works for me.
Under this scenario if iu and Iowa tie at 8-1 with only loss to OSU, who goes to BIG title game?
Now I am dreaming.
