All of the movie theaters are heading to bankruptcy. Movie studios will open there own streaming platform.... I will not get to take my 8 year old to the movies to see the new Top Gun. I was 8 when I went to see the original at the theater. It was glorious. 17 you Coronavirus.. 17 you.

Legit question- are there any operating drive in theaters in Mississippi? Seems like that could be a good business for the next few months.

I was in a town out west 4-5 years ago, maybe Carlsbad New Mexico. There was a huge one multi screen drive in. Think it has closed since then. Really wanted to watch a movie there but wasn’t open during the week.

Going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do. There’s just something magical about the whole experience. I love it all. The smell of the popcorn when you walk in, the big comfy reclining chairs, the frozen Coke that I get every time, the trailers for new movies, and so on. I’d be gutted if movie theaters went away. Some movies are just better on the big screen too.

Go to every local eatery, shop, and store that's still open

The national chains are suffering but most will make it back. It's the locals that have a good chance of not coming back.

And that’s the exact reason that I think either most will survive or else a smart investor will bring them back. We’re all streaming because we have to right now, but the truth of the matter is that a whole lot of people would rather be going out. As long as the demand is there when all this subsides, and I’m right there with you in that regard, I think they’ll find a way

Not sure about that, but I remember that adult store owned by the seemingly otherwise sweet geriatric couple that could be your grandparents.

I’ve wondered if the studios will try this to cut the middle man out but still charge similar prices as the theaters and rake in even more money than they do. On a side note, being in Music City, it’s interesting to me how different two similar industries are on the money spectrum. One lives high on the hog while the other struggles to pay rent.

That is just one of many businesses that will go bankrupt and never return if we don't pull our heads out of our asses

Agree.

We don't go to watch movies at the theater that often (1 movie every two months, or so), but we do enjoy it when we go.

The 17ing popcorn alone makes it worthwhile.

My 13-year old daughter and I get the "bucket-sized" popcorn, drown it in the self-serve butter, coat it with salt . . . and then we slay it before the previews are done.

Then, I pop in my dip and kick back to enjoy the show.

I bring a big stainless steel mixing bowl from home to the theater, so I can properly divide the popcorn and evenly distribute the butter and salt. (No ****.)

Embarrasses the hell out of my wife and daughter . . . and I don't care.

Welcome to 2001. You must have never heard of Pirate Bay. People were already doing that 20 years ago.

I refuse to believe that we are going to stop doing any type of entertainment for a virus that has mild or no symptoms for the majority of the population. There will be concerts, sporting events, festivals and movie theaters in the future. I feel like some of you guys want maximum destruction for some reason.

Spectre, ironically your type is why I don't go to movie theaters anymore.

I loathe the company of those who go to movies and rudely talk, argue, eat like a barnyard slop hog, are on their phone all the time, explaining the plot, yelling, etc. That's why I don't go; ******** who feel everyone else should share a slice of their ****** little world.

But hoping for the eradication of something so many others enjoy is the exact same type of selfishness.

In "the future"? Sure, we'll be doing those things, I can't wait. Summer/fall 2020? Nope.

Some of us put the good of society above "muh individual choices". If it makes you feel any better I root for the eradication of fast food, porn, social media under age 18, cigarettes, strip malls, and the breeding of pit bulls as well although they are enjoyed by many too.

try 1988, duggar hall. by the time I got to suttle in 1989, we had 150 movies and would loan them out on the regular. those were dubbed rentals though, not "still in the theater".

first run movie, not having to "hide" the recording device and have the guy pass in front of the camera every 15 minutes (as well as not having to see it subtitled) will be the ultimate short in the system.

They're already doing that with some kids movies because me and my daughter have watched Trolls: World Tour about ten times. Only cost 20 bucks though.

Man I'm just the opposite. The last time I stepped foot in a theater was 2007 when I took my kids to a matinee. For me its the overpriced snacks, ridiculous ticket prices, Hollywood liberal elitist actors, the sticky *** floors and the nasty *** seats that everybody else has had their grimy heads on, farted in, spilled who knows what in, etc. I'm like the people on this forum that prefer to sit at home and watch football games on my big screen, eat my own food, and know that I'm not sitting in a germ filled petri dish of strangers human body matter.

Anything in terms of entire industries that goes away as a result of the pandemic was already going away anyway; the pandemic has just accelerated it. As long as the demand is there, anything shut down by the virus will come back on the other side.
