When this is over there will still be movie theaters. Probably not as many and some smaller towns may lose them altogether but once this dies down there is still going to be a demand for entertainment which includes the ability to see a movie on the big screen while eating overpriced popcorn and soda.

Maybe America will take back the Movie Theater business from the Chinese after they file for bankruptcy.

AMC Entertainment, the movie-theater chain owned by Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda, has purchased Carmike Cinemas, a rival 3,000-screen chain known as “America’s hometown theater circuit,” for $1.1 billion. The deal puts AMC into the top spot in the US movie-theater industry, with 8,380 screens in over 600 theaters across the country.

It also puts even more of the US entertainment industry into Chinese control, as deep-pocketed Chinese tycoons seek partnerships with Hollywood studios, gaming companies, and digital-effects studios. Wang Jianlin, who owns Dalian Wanda, has been one of the most aggressive—the group purchased Jurassic World producer Legendary Entertainment in January for $3.5 billion.

Man I'm just the opposite. The last time I stepped foot in a theater was 2007 when I took my kids to a matinee. For me its the overpriced snacks, ridiculous ticket prices, Hollywood liberal elitist actors, the sticky *** floors and the nasty *** seats that everybody else has had their grimy heads on, farted in, spilled who knows what in, etc. I'm like the people on this forum that prefer to sit at home and watch football games on my big screen, eat my own food, and know that I'm not sitting in a germ filled petri dish of strangers human body matter.

Is your name Oscar?

There will be movie theaters. If everyone goes out of business that will be opportunity for someone else to open one. That's not going away. People enjoy going to the movies.

The movies are an antiquated entertainment experience. Watching on a 50" quantum dot LCD television with 7.1 surround sound is better than fighting a crowd and paying 25 bucks for popcorn and coke. Not to mention all the fomites that are present in a movie theatre.

Bob Dillon was scheduled to come to the Brandon Amphitheater (in June?). I so badly wanted to see/hear him, but I'm sure that is history now.

My one shot, probably killed by the virus.

Oh well - I was a killer fan, but not worth dying for.

And that’s the exact reason that I think either most will survive or else a smart investor will bring them back. We’re all streaming because we have to right now, but the truth of the matter is that a whole lot of people would rather be going out. As long as the demand is there when all this subsides, and I’m right there with you in that regard, I think they’ll find a way

This. There was far too much demand for movie theaters to go away. Some will be weeded out, and some opportunities will arise with new management, but that industry isn't going anywhere.

Then move to a homogeneous country like Iceland or Finland. Our melting pot of ideas and beliefs isn't for you.

Do you know the history of that term?... It was specifically promoted by a member of the Fabian Society and future Bolshivek supporter Israel Zangwill beginning in a 1908 play as a push for essentially global migration to dilute national unity and ultimately result in a world government.

Legit question- are there any operating drive in theaters in Mississippi? Seems like that could be a good business for the next few months.

I was in a town out west 4-5 years ago, maybe Carlsbad New Mexico. There was a huge one multi screen drive in. Think it has closed since then. Really wanted to watch a movie there but wasn’t open during the week.

There was one in, of all places, Guntown, MS, till about 10 years ago.

Dude simmer down. Some of your ideas are alright and I think you generally are in the right place but America is in fact the land of opportunity for all people who come the right way (the last part is important, like legal immigration, etc.).

What is the worldview behind your reasoning for nationalism? That would explain a lot. I'm Christian so I'm alright with the "melting pot" as long as we stay within the bounds of our laws (based on Christian principles - the non-Christians won't ever admit that but it's true). That's the kicker. We never never meant to have a secular melting pot.

That was the old Lakeside Drive-In. Ah, memories of the first porno I ever saw. It was also fun at the Reflector because the Drive-In would advertise the porn flicks with one-word titles - those I remember most were "Gold" and "Rhapsody".
