First off, let me say congrats on getting Hoiberg. I think he's a great coach and he gave us some great years at ISU, both as a player and coach.I wanted to give a little insight on him from my perspective and answer any questions if you have any.
First, his staff - Charlie Henry is his X's and O's guy. Very promising young guy who gets a lot of tape and game planning together for Hoiberg. Followed him to the Bulls. Matt A. is a recruiter, but he was primarily the transfer guy, who went to St Johns in the interim. So I think bringing him in is a clear sign he's going to go the transfer route hard, which I think is a good idea.
ISU fans really embraced transfers, calling ourselves "Transfer U", and I think you should too. It's a lot of fun. If you're into recruiting in the slightest, it's super exciting, because guys come on the board and then 4-6 weeks later they are signed and in school for you. There isn't the multi-year will they or won't they with high school recruits. Plus, the guys are more mature, they've been through college basketball, and quite frankly most of the time they know it's their last chance and I think they are generally a little more appreciative of it. Plus, I think experience is underrated, so you consistently have a little more of an experienced team.
I'm sure some of you guys have looked at KenPom and stuff like that, statistical profile is of a team that is absolutely elite on offense but is just okay on defense. I can't remember but there was a streak that was broken when ISU scored 69 points in a game toward the end of his tenure, and that was the first time ISU was under 70 in I think multiple years. For several years they were the #1 fastest tempo team in the country with an average possession length of under 14 seconds.
Regarding ISU fans, I don't really want to get into it but suffice it to say that there are some fans on each side behaving like children right now, ones who only remember the good times of the Fred era and not the bad and are constantly pining for him, and the ones that are acting like jilted lovers. I find both to be absolutely insufferable.
