Kids ? they are not exactly 14 year olds . They are not kids , they are young pretty mature adults . Or at least they should be . We have 1000's of 17 year olds go early thru military boot camp away from their homes every year . They are not kids .
I joined at 18 and I certainly wasn’t mature. Hell I joined the Army to grow up. But you knew exactly what I meant. Have you never heard the term college kids especially Freshman?

Fans constantly whining about something when 99.9% of college basketball would GLADLY trade us places in a heartbeat year in/out is much more tiring than roster turnover.

Constantly in the hunt for a title.
Constantly bringing in great kids that work hard and represent Kentucky incredibly well considering their age.
Constantly watching our hall of fame coach help these kids grow their games exponentially.
Constantly watching kids far exceed most level headed fans expectations, some going from 4 star player to first round lock in one season of basketball. Achieving lifetime dreams. In the process only making Kentucky look more and more attractive to NBA hopefuls.
Constantly watching almost all of these kids succeed in the NBA due to the preparation and coaching they got while attending the greatest program in college basketball.

This list could go on and on, yet some on here still find reasons to constantly complain. If that sounds like you, then you may be the problem.

Constantly making everything about the NBA is not good if you’re a UK college basketball fan. I want UK to win a NC every year but we’ve all seen how hard that is. For me it’s 100% about UK and zero % about the NBA. I’d much rather see UK in Final Fours and winning NC’s than watching former UK players in the NBA playoffs or win an NBA championship. I wish them no ill will at all but I’m a UK fan first. I think some posters would rather see a former player win an NBA championship more than UK winning #9.

Hardly anyone makes it about the NBA all the time minus the few who constantly whine and moan about the NBA. I’m happy to see guys stay and I completely understand when guys go when they are guaranteed to be a high draft pick. As most are. As far as an NBA championship vs a national title, that’s nonsense.

Someone should start and make money off a therapy board for sulking easily hurt fans. Sorry, Kev, you usually come off as a tough guy on these boards, but this is pure unadulterated snowflake territory. Easily triggered?

...autograph signing tour Keldon and Tyler are going on?

I know I am. I was also very happy to see them posting pictures of buying expensive cars BEFORE announcing they were staying in the draft.

And now they get to go make money off of those same fans they gave a big middle finger to with those pics they posted.

Really nice considering all they accomplished in the 7 months they were here.

Oh well. I think I’ll catch you UK football fans on Wildcat Lair in a couple of months when football is about to rev up. I think I’m done on Rafters until October. Adious Basketball only fans.

Bad post but I’ll never understand the fascination for autographs if you’re a grown *** man.

a lot of fans (from all schools) enjoy collecting sports memorabilia
autographs are a part of their collections

i have never been into collecting autographs, but a lot of fans enjoy it
there is nothing remotely wrong with that

some people like celery, i do not
i will not condemn or make fun of them for liking celery

Too each their own, I’m just not a very materialistic person so having something an athlete wore or signed does absolutely nothing for me. Even as a kid, my dad took me to a UK event where Orbzut, Bobby Perry and a few others signed autos, I felt it was unnecessary. Again, too each their own

Also, I like celery

Fair enough. But some (not all) of the young posters on this board get pissed every time a fan questions a player leaving when they’re questionable about being ready. They may be the minority but I get sick of hearing that so and so don’t owe the fans anything and act like the fans are a pain in the ***. I’m really over it. I hope we win another championship but the annual circus isn’t worth worrying about anymore. If you disagree I understand.

you and I are actually in agreement on getting autographs
they just never appealed to me

I think we all knew at end of season that Herro and KJ were gone. Herro had been around #14 - #20 since end of the SEC season and KJ about same. We all know that each year we lose 4-5 players to the NBA.

I think that most people were upset on how both came out making statements that they were testing the waters. They were going through the NBA Combine process and then get feedback to see where they were in the NBA Draft. Then get the feedback and discuss with Cal and Family. It also sounded like if they wasn't lottery selections they could possibly come back for another season at UK. Then the next couple of days they come out with photos with new vehicles and both were saying they were staying in the Draft without going through the NBA Combine process. I think that is why most of the fans were upset was the Photos and not going through the NBA Combine process first before making the decisions in the way both handled it.

don’t let it bother you. I have a pretty strong feeling that atleast one, maybe both, will end up broke in 3 years.

Who thinks that way? Why would you think that way? "Strong feelings"...laughable.

parade around the state charging average people $40-80 for their autograph when they went out as fast as they could and dropped $75-$150k on cars. It’s a bad look, especially as freshmen... who didn’t win a damn thing.T

You do realize those average people don't have to go pay those prices..they can charge what they want...doesn't mean people will pay. Bad look? How so? Whay does being a freshman have to do with it?

And I get tired of older posters constantly acting like Cal should recruit 3 star Kentucky boys and tell players not to go to the league when they are a first round lock. But your example and my example are the minority. Generally fans are understanding and realize Cal recruits the best of the best and that the money these guys will make if they are projected to be drafted fairly high (regardless of being “ready”) is just too good to pass up. Sure, it’s tiring. I mean, how do you think Cal feels?! But every year we are among the elite teams with a shot to win a title. We have had a few bad breaks that have kept us from winning multiple, but roster turnover or not, we are always in the hunt. And when these players make it in the league, it only makes Kentucky as a destination and Cal as a coach look all the better to incoming recruits. As for owing fans something, that’s kind of crazy. Obviously the players that come here are grateful for the support and (generally) awesome environments that Kentucky fans bring both home and away. But acting like they should turn down millions of dollars just because some fan in his recliner thinks they don’t have the goods for the NBA because they didn’t win us a dadgum championship is, well... you get it. Most defer to the scouts who get paid to evaluate their readiness and don’t make a fuss about it. Those that think they know more than the scouts who have a lifetime of evaluating and projecting basketball abilities tend to make enough of a fuss to make us all look bad.

The only real problem with the minority of fans that I pointed out above is that they are so daggon loud. Makes us all look bad. But once you realize that the majority of fans pretty much understand the success Cal has had here and that roster turnover in this day and age of basketball is a given, you tend to not even notice their constant griping.

Oh, and I hope we win another championship too. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

There is next to zero people wanting 3 star Ky kids and also blaming Cal for rushing players to the league . And that incoming recruit thing was true for a long while but we are not getting La Creme of Da Crop these days . I take offense as an old fart myself , Ky kids that can help and fill a role ? YES all day long , Players outside the lottery or not a lock for the first round ? I dont see it as sinful to wish those players would come back but I understand why they dont

The fans have made UK what it is, not the other way around. Our “unrealistically high standards” have allowed UK to be recognized as the greatest program of all time. Because of that, UK’s coaches have enjoyed a distinct advantage in marketing. Win win BBN.

I’m not going to blame Cal for not getting the top of the top until all this FBI stuff finally comes to light. I’m not holding my breath, because you know, the NCAA and all, but it can’t be a coincidence we stopped getting the best of the best when all this FBI and shoe scandal stuff hit the fan. It’s understandable to get upset if a player that has no chance of being drafted in the first round leaves town. Especially is they could have contributed a good amount and helped themselves out the following year. Completely understand that. And sure, Kentucky kids can help. But how many want to come here and ride pine when they could go somewhere and play immediately? Not many Hawkins’ around.

The fans have made UK what it is, not the other way around. Our “unrealistically high standards” have allowed UK to be recognized as the greatest program of all time. Because of that, UK’s coaches have enjoyed a distinct advantage in marketing. Win win BBN.

Absolutely agree. It’s great that we expect so much from our program. I’m only speaking to the crowd that completely overlooks the crazy amount of success we have had even when we don’t win a national title. Wanting to win one every year is the Kentucky way. But throwing the season out just because we didn’t cut the nets down is outrageous. But I’m with you, win win BBN.

College kids is a term loosely thrown around. An 18 year old is a young adult, but so is a 22 year old and in many instances a 30 year old. It is all about maturity.

I've known 18 year olds that are more mature and make sounder decisions that 40 year old men.

I'm not sure what this topic is, just thought I'd chime in, lol.

Outside of the years from the Jim Crow era, what decade was the Cal haters happy with UK basketball?

[Not saying people who don't like Cal are racist, btw]
