What really gets my goat is knowing the ones whining would do EXACTLY the same thing the kids are doing in similar circumstances. These are just petty individuals. An embarrassment to the fan base.
Agreed. A bunch of self righteous hypocrites. I’m sure it carries over into their everyday life as well

This is a pretty bad thread. lol

If I had the opportunity to upgrade my career and make millions, why wouldn't I? These guys have trained their entire freaking life to get to this moment, just wish them well.

They worked their asses off to not only show off their skill, but also to represent our school.

I know I am. I was also very happy to see them posting pictures of buying expensive cars BEFORE announcing they were staying in the draft.

And now they get to go make money off of those same fans they gave a big middle finger to with those pics they posted.

Really nice considering all they accomplished in the 7 months they were here.

Oh well. I think I’ll catch you UK football fans on Wildcat Lair in a couple of months when football is about to rev up. I think I’m done on Rafters until October. Adious Basketball only fans.

Players come here partly because of autograph sessions

I have never met a 19 year old that wouldn’t immediately buy some new wheels after hitting the jackpot, me included.

Sorry if my post was vague. After I read it later I realized it wasn’t clear. I was trying to be clever with the car quip. I agree that every 19 yr old if they hit the lottery would buy a car right away. As would I and I passed up 19 long ago.

I’m curious as to what you consider “right outside” the Lottery. If that somehow happens, these decisions made sense. But, everyone who plans to declare (college/foreign), has yet to. I’m just saying...
Well since the lottery goes from 1 to 14 and all 3 of our guys are projected as high as 15th-17th and 18th and looking like 19th-20th might be the worse if you go by the mock drafts they are anywhere from 1 to 5 spots outside of the lottery. What else would you call it?

Yeah, that’s my definition too. We definitely agree on that.

I read this today in an article about KU and it is how I have felt since I heard all kids could hire agents and sill come back. I have said in a few threads that these agents are going to be all one in the hand better than two in the bush. I am curious to see how many kids return that hire an agent but leave the door open. Usually, it takes a while, but we saw Herro and KJ pull the trigger quick. I think once you get involved with an agent it's over. Here is what the article said,

"Some analysts have said agents, who are paid a percentage of their client’s pro contract, might have a vested interest in convincing a player such as Dotson to remain in the draft even if it’d be smart for him to return to school."

Fans constantly whining about something when 99.9% of college basketball would GLADLY trade us places in a heartbeat year in/out is much more tiring than roster turnover.

Constantly in the hunt for a title.
Constantly bringing in great kids that work hard and represent Kentucky incredibly well considering their age.
Constantly watching our hall of fame coach help these kids grow their games exponentially.
Constantly watching kids far exceed most level headed fans expectations, some going from 4 star player to first round lock in one season of basketball. Achieving lifetime dreams. In the process only making Kentucky look more and more attractive to NBA hopefuls.
Constantly watching almost all of these kids succeed in the NBA due to the preparation and coaching they got while attending the greatest program in college basketball.

This list could go on and on, yet some on here still find reasons to constantly complain. If that sounds like you, then you may be the problem.

I get the frustration with losing kids every year like we do but it's not the fault of the kids or even Cal to a large extent. Fault lies with the current college bball system and the NBA. Bashing the kids for chasing their dreams is pointless and silly. Bashing the system is useless but deserved. Gotta adjust as a college bball fan or learn to love ice hockey.

I passed up 19 long ago too. If I hit the jackpot now, I’d still buy a car right away.
It would be a private jet to the next Barrett-Jackson.

This is dead on the money. We have folks desperately seeking a scape goat and seize on kids or Cal, both of which are more victims of the process than responsible for the outcome. You are absolutely correct in that the problem is the NCAA and the NBA, with more on the later. Blaming the players or Cal is simply deflecting the issue away from the real culprits. Basically, this is the state of things.

Me? I wouldn’t go to my front door to get either of their signatures. But I also don’t begrudge a teen happy about his new found wealth. I also don’t care about them putting pictures on their social media accounts because I don’t follow anyone on Twitter except Cal. It isn’t their fault someone posts the pictures here. My son posted a picture on Facebook when he bought his first car. I didn’t give it a second thought. He obviously didn’t play basketball for UK but what difference does it make? All of them young kids excited about their futures.

Uh that’s actually not true but that’s not the point either these guys are getting bad advice
Yeah, I'm sure Cal has fed them bogus info. Also, their agent, probably did as well so he could lose out helping them make more money which in turn helps him make more money. Yeah, solid post there by you.

@kev69 don’t let it bother you. I have a pretty strong feeling that atleast one, maybe both, will end up broke in 3 years. It’s bad enough to go buy an Audi when you’re not even a lock for the lottery, but to be stupid enough to buy a Maserati when you’re not a lottery lock shows another level of bad decision making.

Considering their skillsets, they better be saving every penny of their rookie deals they can, especially Tyler. There’s a real chance it could be the only nba contract they ever sign.

Seriously though these are kids some of you are talking about .

I don’t see how anyone could take it as a middle finger to the face because they bought cars .

Again these are basically kids we are talking about lol.
I think it’s the fact that they will parade around the state charging average people $40-80 for their autograph when they went out as fast as they could and dropped $75-$150k on cars. It’s a bad look, especially as freshmen... who didn’t win a damn thing.

The only two guys I’d even consider giving my money to for their autograph are PJ and Reid. PJ for atleast being here 2 years and Reid because he’s a grown man with his head on straight.

I’ve only ever went to one of these signings after the season. Went to MKG’s in Paducah. Dude earned every penny for what he gave us IMO.

Bruh, you’re just envious these kids have a skillset that you will never have and they’re using that skillset to earn more money in one year than you’ll make in a lifetime. You have a huge chip on your shoulder.. And to top it off, you don’t know jack squat about basketball. You’re the biggest turd on this board.

According to Wikipedia, UK has had 15 30+ win seasons. So, 30. 15 2nd leading scorers and 15 3rd leading scorers.

</smartass reply>
Smartass or not, that's the correct answer.

The drama queen OP asked what Herro and Johnson accomplished at UK, and the answer is that they did something only 28 other players have done. Add in the leading scorers for those other 14 teams plus this year, and it's 43.

Even if you expand that to "2nd and 3rd leading scorers on UK Elite 8 teams", it would still only be fewer than 74 other players (because certain players would repeat), which, given the fact that we're talking about 81 years of NCAA Tournaments (and 37 other UK teams that made the Elite 8), isn't all that many.

They accomplished a lot, just not as much and as for as long as the OP and every other fan having a meltdown the last few days wanted.

Both declared early which gave cal time to fill their positions hopefully.
Had they strung that out people would have more of a reason to be ticked.

Yeah, decisions made much quicker this season. I like that and it is refreshing.

We have a solid 4 core returning (just not the 4 people want for whatever reason). The good thing is they are 5-8 in rotation and not all of them have to move up to the top 4 tier in 2019-2020. Hagans probably needs to and Montgomery improving a lot would be awesome as he has great potential IMO. The other 2 just need to improve and give us good bench minutes.

I think the holdup last year was because four of our guys who tested the waters were considered "meh" by NBA scouts.

And of course, three of them stayed in the draft.

This year, the scouts gave top 20 feedback to Tyler and KJ. Made it easier for them to decide quickly unlike Gabriel, Vanderbilt, Diallo, and PJ.

If anyone was going to relish failure and poverty on a Kentucky player it would be you, Zay. That was pretty pathetic. I know you are really a Dook fan but wish you would just admit it. It is an embarrassment that some might actually think you are a KY fan.

I don't get why people are upset with the kids who hear they will get drafted and decide to stay in the draft. Heck if I was 19 and was told we'll give you $1 million to come play a game, I'd jump in a heart beat.

Kids ? they are not exactly 14 year olds . They are not kids , they are young pretty mature adults . Or at least they should be . We have 1000's of 17 year olds go early thru military boot camp away from their homes every year . They are not kids .
Sorry, the vast majority of college freshman are kids.
College seniors are men.
If you “think” different you are just being obtuse.

My daughter , as a 17 year old , in between her Jr and Sr year of High School did Army boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood . She , and I disagree . Its not being obtuse , we just dont agree with you . And thats ok . Some people never grow up some are not that mature , but if you are successful enough to go thru your teens as a top 100 player in the entire nation you are exposed to enough to no longer be classified as a kid , IMO . They understand economics pretty damn well.
