We better learn to battle and switch on screens or theyre gonna get a ton of open looks and drill 3’s and youll be able to hear a pin dropoh yeah.....RAC will be rockin....
I actually think Iowa will be very tough to beat. They have so many guys who can hit threes that it will be tough to keep them under 70 -75 points. I think the real challenge will be whether we can shoot well enough to stay close to Iowa. If not , Iowa will win by 15 or more points. We better learn to battle and switch on screens or theyre gonna get a ton of open looks and drill 3’s and youll be able to hear a pin drop

Put mathis on Bohannon.
Well we have guards that drive the dish. Thanks for some hope Iowa.Looking forward to this game as an Iowa fan. I watched a bit of your game last night and congrats on a great win.
A couple of points not made so far. Wieskamp may be the best shooter on the team. Pure lights out shooter who is getting to the rim more and more. Moss has been off for the past few games. He has games he can’t miss and then.... Luka Garza has been picking up fouls the last couple of games and has been ineffective. When he’s in and on, he a low post threat.
RU will have to get to 70 to win. I just don’t see the Hawks scoring less than that. The Iowa defense has improved, but from putrid last year to somewhere around below average. Maybe poor. Really really susceptible to guards that drive and dish.
harper has been damn good on the defensive end of the floor. You've been posting some **** that is just totally off-base lately. Geo is who I'm worried about the most on D vs iowa as he is awful at dealing with screensIf you want to disrupt their offense you put Mathis on Bohanon to make him work initiating offense. There are some multi dimensoial scorer on iowa so I'd think Baker would get Bohannon
I am worried about Harper Jr defensively.
Think this may be a game to go small with Gene at the 5 and Harper at the 4 so we can switch almost anything..We need our 5 guys to be able to cover threes and the pick and pop. Need to switch as much as possible.
I expect Iowa -9.5
You’re going to need to cover a pure post up player in Cook, who can get 20 pretty easily and Garza, who is 7 feet and has some post up moves as well.
Iowa has had some success with a trapping press. They are pretty long and it’s made teams turn the ball over, particularly NW. they also use it to shorten the shot clock. Your thoughts on that?
Iowa also has had success with a 3-2 or 1-2-2 zone, making teams shoot over that. Again, your thoughts
Have only watched Iowa in spurts this year, but obviously we have plenty of 7 footers to deal with size, i just worry about their mobility on the perimiter, specifically Doorson; so we may see more Myles Johnson who moves better, or even Shaq Carter at the 5 with gene at the 4 who move better on perimeter. You’re going to need to cover a pure post up player in Cook, who can get 20 pretty easily and Garza, who is 7 feet and has some post up moves as well.

agree with cutting Doorson's minutes this game. Their big have some range and play further away from the basketball, garza reallyHave only watched Iowa in spurts this year, but obviously we have plenty of 7 footers to deal with size, i just worry about their mobility on the perimiter, specifically Doorson; so we may see more Myles Johnson who moves better, or even Shaq Carter at the 5 with gene at the 4 who move better on perimeter.
As far as the press; we don't have a pure point guard so sometimes it hurts us, but we have 4 or 5 guys that can handle the ball ok (against Illinois pressure we only turned it over 9 times all game because we went small). What our guards can do is attack the rim especially after we break the press (Harper, Mathis and Geo are all good at attacking the rim). Mathis and Harper for freshman are really good at attacking in transition and after breaking the press.
yesterday you're saying you don't know if caleb is better than kiss and then today you're saying harpers a defensive liability. I'm sorry but it's hard to believe we're watching the same games with these statementsI think it is best to put you on ignore for a bit.

We are very long too..We really don't have a guy smaller than 6'5 on the court, so our guards are long and big too, so hopefully this will help defensively vs Iowa. I just hope we can figure out our ball screen defense, especially on pick and pops to prevent open threes.Depends on you definition of bigs. Garza plays away at times and can have a pulse as a shooter. However, of all the players Iowa has that consistently take 3’s, he’s the worst shooter. Cook doesn’t get away from the basket much. Baer is 6’7 or so and can shoot, but isn’t really a big. Kriener as a backup doesn’t shoot can play some defense though.
Iowa has a number of really long 6’5 to 6’7 guys. They are sort of interchangeable on defense. They don’t really have a dominant shot blocker.
They have three guys who will absolutely hit you from three. Bohannon, Moss, and Wieskamp. The best player of the three is Wieskamp. A freshman who is a decent defender. He’s had a tendency to make three or four in a game and then disappear when defenses focus on him.
When you are at the game, keep your eye on the bench and keep the Francon Alert System (linked below) card handy....lol
What's the deal with his son on the team and getting a lot of minutes....a freshman guard and he can't shoot. What's the deal here? Wouldn't some players get upset the coaches son was taking their minutes?
Yeah, ya know what, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm totally okay with giving up pick and pop opportunities to Garza when we hedge on high ball screens when he's the screener rather than have guys like weiskamp and bohanon get open looks. Personally I'd put Montez on Weiskamp and have him just follow him around all night. weiskamp is a damn good player. Bohannon just has such a quick release and just goes unconscious for stretches at a time and he has some really solid range too. Personally I'd have caleb mcconnell on him to try to disrupt him with some length that he's probably not used to dealing with. With Moss being that he's longer I'd probably try to rough him up a little bit with a mix of mcconnell and harper on him.Depends on you definition of bigs.
