why do they schedule Hawkeye basketball games during Vikings football games?
makes no sense.

hopefully the basketball team can rebound today and flip the switch on the season moving forward

Not an impressive outing for the Hawks. Not having a big time Inside presence is a problem. I thought we were getting more talented people in too.

Or a guard that can consistently score/breakdown a defense.

It ain't Tony Perkins. He has been invisible of late (yes, I know he scored a few points tonight)

Bad 1st half - Great 2nd half

They just dug themselves too big a hole early in the game.

Love the effort - no quit in these guys.

Murray is rounding back in to form, and we need that badly.

This is not a good team. Other than Murray and Rebraca I am not sure what pieces there are to work with. Ulis, Sandfort, and PMac look lost. Ulis plays OK defense but remains an awful shooter despite Fran telling us his shooting issues last year were because of his wrist injury. Sandfort is borderline unplayable and should stop shooting 3's and focus on getting some looks off cuts etc., in the mid-range. Patrick is not a B1G starter--and ideally would be coming off the bench but there aren't any other options.

Part of Fran's system is predicated on causing turnovers and getting stops in order to get out in transition. That is being completely negated when you get blitzed in the first half of games and let dudes like Wilcher for Nebraska and Funk for PSU get open gym shots. This leaves Iowa's half court at the mercy of awful guard play which = frenetic passing to avoid ball pressure and 4 guys looking at Kris to bail them out late in the shot clock. Joe T. had his shortcomings but he wasn't prone to stretches of abysmal play like we have seen from Perkins and Uls at the guard spots.

yea... no... we do have a good basketball team... they are just lacking confidence right now... for whatever reason.
but I'm hoping they get it back soon.

Give the Hawkeyes credit for a great second half comeback, but in the grand scheme of things, it's just another loss. And that's how a team can build an 0-20 record. Get blown out now and then, like at Nebraska, play well for a half after getting buried but still lose, like at PSU. I can't look at the schedule and see a single win right now except, maybe, Minnesota. All the evidence indicates Iowa and the Gophers will be battling for last place. Even with Kris appearing to be back in the groove, and despite Rebraca playing his heart out, the talent just isn't there. We had high hopes for Perkins and Sandfort and PMac and Ulis, but the results have been--with a few exceptions--pretty awful. And it doesn't look like there's any other help on the bench, although I'd give Kingsbury a chance, especially when you're getting buried, like in the first half last night.

Anyway, it looks like a long, long, long season from here, one that will end quietly with a Wednesday loss at the Big Ten Tournament.

Husker fan here just reading your hoops board. I know it looks bleak getting beat by us. But imagine how we feel to see you then go and puke against Penn State....PENN STATE. They're horrible. Now our win vs. Iowa is relegated to the trash heap of meaningless wins. I'm guessing Nebraska won't win another B10 game this season. Wait, do we play you guys again? (sorry...that was below the belt).

FYI, my friend: Penn State won at Illinois and is a pretty good basketball team. "Horrible" may end up applying to Iowa and Minnesota, but that's about it. And BTW, did you see Rutgers beat #1 Purdue . . . again . . . this time in West Lafayette? There may not be any great teams in the BIG, but there are 11 or 12 really good ones, including Penn State and, probably, Nebraska.
