I thought I'd read he had told Utah he was done at the end of the season. Okay, I guess he told the school he was "stepping down with no plans for the future" and then he shows up at Michigan within days.
Guess they should have had a clause in there that he couldn't sign with someone else, but of course they would have to pay him out then.

Just looking at this, I think with the regime change in Michigan, that game @ Ann Arbor is an important game for us, and it's probably the best time to play them. We need to be 3-0 heading into Michigan, and we need to be no worse than 5-2 heading into homecoming game against Wisconsin. If we can do that, we'll still be in the playoff hunt.

Exactly right.

if Jeremy is a legit b10 qb then Iowa can win every game on their schedule. They can be competitive against OSU and Michigan and have a chance to win those games. They will be formidable and deep enough elsewhere for the most part.

Scary scenario is finishing week 3 and lamenting the fact KF didn’t go get a QB in the portal because the QB play is lowering their ceiling significantly.

I actually like getting Michigan early even if on the road and NOT getting OSU on the road ever. If they were spread throughout the year would we expect a different potential outcome? If we beat Michigan, I like one hell of a war in Iowa City the following week. Big part of the outcome in the BT will be that first game on the road. Win that and it could be really special!!

The problem is Wash that third week..that is the 3 ranked teams on our schedule in a row.
Their QB is Heisman candidate.
If we played them in early nov..fine...but back to back to back almost ensures 2 or 3 losses by 10/10..outta playoffs before sweatshirt weather kicks in.

Listened to Cory and Mark over at the voice of college football today talk about the schedule. We have to take at least one game during that three game stretch if we want to make the playoffs. If we want Iowa to take it to the next level, we should be embracing that difficulty. A lot of questions going into next season though.

Finding success in the first three games will be critical, meaning we aren't struggling and we're beating the other team in every phase of the game. I think Hecklinski is going to be the guy, Lester seems really jazzed about him. The defensive line is another unit I'll be paying close attention to. We've got a lot of new faces and I'm looking forward to see who Phil thinks is the best guys to put up front. Will Iose get a starting spot?

Wouldn't that be great for an Iowa QB to come out game 1 ready to go? Its been a long time. We'd have been in the playoff, probably 12-1 if MG had been in his end of season groove day 1........

I believe that 100%! I think we could have made a run too. Not saying we would have won it but it was possible based on results against the top tier teams we played. Never say never.
See: Indiana.

You think ND will be saddened that they will make the playoffs without playing a ranked team? You think they will be chagrined at not embracing that difficulty?
Clearly now more than ever there is only one goal...win enough games to make the playoffs...no extra credit for running a gauntlet.
If we win 11 games vs little sisters of poor...great, we're in!
I want nds schedule.
If Iowa loses to OSU and Mich or Wash, we're out.
Nobody cares if Iowa beats 3 top 5 teams, if we lose 2 we're out.
And now, making the playoff is all that matters so our season is probably over by Oct 10.
But we will certainly feel better having embraced the difficulty.

That what makes me wish Mark had one more year with us. He knows the system and he's as healthy as he's been since heading to Iowa City. If we had him this year, I'd be willing to say 11-1 is a real possibility. He looked like a stud at the Shrine Bowl.

At least Heck is healthy, a year into the Lester system, and seems to be the kind of guy who loves a challenge. If he develops well this year, 2027 could be a very big year for us.

Game 1 is a patsy, so let's see games 2 and 3 too.

Buzz out of Ames is Iowa State will be better than last year.
Maybe so, but the buzz out of Ames is probably that joining the Mile High Club refers to climbing up to Denver, Colorado.

So, I would not put a lot of faith in "the buzz out of Ames."

They are gearing up for the Big 12 schedule, but the BIG game on their schedule is Iowa. Nebraska used to be right up there but the Cornhuskers were smart enough to join a stable conference.

Regardless they will have fun playing Rice or whoever.
