They came in rested and wrestled a great tournament this past season. Bailey and Kueter are strong candidates for HEW, Crookham will struggle to stay healthy and if he does he is a 4th to 6th placer.
My guess is 5 or 6 AAs with a strong effort to finish 4th again.
Penn st Oklahoma st Nebraska then 4th will be a battle with VA tech Stanford Ohio st Iowa is how I see it

174 Gabe Arnold
184 Angelo Ferrari
197 Harvey Ludington
Hvy B Kueter

if Gabe can take that next step and Ferrari find some offense this is a very formidable lineup.
They should have AAs at 133-141-149-174-184- HVY

and National Title contenders at 133 and 184
that is not a team to rule out

But a lot of that is contingent on Crrokham being healthy, Gabe taking a next step and Angelo finding some offense!
Nobody is ruling them out for 3rd or 4th if everything breaks right for them.

Formidable is relative unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few years.

I mean formidable in the national picture.
obviously... PSU is the front runner but if OKSt would stumble Iowa and ohio state can compete for 2nd. I do think VTech will be in the mix but a lot of unknowns still for VTech... Iowa has a proven lineup and showed compete for 3rd and possibly even 2nd if OKST would have any injuries or setbacks

Top 5 in the country is pretty formidable.

Would have to break perfectly for 3rd IMO.

Every team has injury struggles, and no team has fewer struggles than Iowa. There is no depth in that lineup.

This is probably the wrong board for that sentiment.

Honestly, it’s pretty bad if the HR is the right board for it as well. It might work well on the Rutgers board though.

There have only been a handful of teams that have won or competed for NCs in the last couple of decades. A team that finished 5th would not be one of the formidable teams for any of them during this time period.

I'm sure it's formidable to the teams Iowa looks to poach from every spring.

we are in the middle of something very rare... a dynasty is the exception not the expectation!
I think if you are top 5 in the country at anything... you are formidable

by definition : A formidable opponent/adversary: Someone who is extremely difficult to beat in a contest or competition.
I think that there are like 78 or 79 D1 wrestling teams in the country!

If all but 3 or 4 teams in the country find you pretty hard to beat (74 of them would say Iowa is formidable)...
If we are looking at if from the lens of the top two or three teams... then maybe not as much but even the top teams with the exception of us... would not call IOWA an easy out!

I get it.... we are on a PSU board... we see it only from a PSU lens ... but there are nearly 80 teams and we are probably the only team that would be looking at winning 8-10 weight classes vs them

even OKST would be in danger of dropping 3-4 bouts (Arnold, Ferrari, Kueter at least) and a couple others could be close... meaning a slip up here or there could swing the match!
We are the only team that would not feel that way vs IOWA right now.

That is formidable to me! JMO

I'm only going to nitpick the " a dynasty is the exception not the expectation" portion of this. This sport, maybe more than any other, is essentially one dynasty after another and has been for basically the entirety of its NCAA history.
