I think Iowa's in, no matter how many bad teams they've beaten (and that's a lot, including Nebraska). It's a little like Nebraska's season last year: beat virtually no one in the non-conference (Nebraska lost to a couple of good/great teams, whereas Iowa went undefeated this year); beat Michigan badly at home; beat the not-so-good B1G teams, including a last-second home victory against a bad team (Northwestern for Iowa, Illinois last year for Nebraska). The only difference would be the banked-in corner 3 by Wieskamp at Rutgers to win at the buzzer. That's why you're not an Iowa fan. The tournament discussion is one Iowa has been in dozens of times. No, there won't be sweat regardless of Thursday's outcome. Have seen the movie before.
Still, because of the B1G's perceived weakness last year, a 13-5 conference record wasn't good enough for Nebraska. And because of the perceived strength of the B1G this year, a 10-10 conference record — with almost all of those victories against teams that finished under .500 in the conference — Iowa is likely a lock for the tournament.
BTW, today's NET rankings have Iowa at 42, and Nebraska is at 52.
I don't hate Iowa. Hell, I work for the university. I just hate the basketball gods and the way they continually laugh at die-hard Husker Hoops fans like myself.
Andy Katz has the Hawkeyes as a team in "Trouble."
