Interesting comment about Green

Just now on KSR, Jones was talking about our guards for next year, and listed IQ, AH and Maxey. Ryan said "you don't think Quade will be back?", to which Jones paused and said "I don't think so". I am pretty sure he doesn't believe QG is NBA bound next year, so I am very puzzled why he said that. I don't sense that Quade is unhappy but I can only base that on games. Anybody think otherwise?

No player recruited by Cal thinks he is coming back after the first year, so do you think Green will stay past two years???? That is why I wish he would occasionally recruit a KY player that sticks around for the experience.

Wasn’t that just rumors that he wanted to go to Nova? Any links, comments , interviews etc of him stating this? (Honest question )

Hometown and his side put out some feelers last year. I think he would’ve jumped if Quinerly stuck with zona.

Richards will actually play a lot more next year since we lost out on Wiseman.
That's true but I heard Cal say after the game the other day that Richards (didn't say his name but made it clear who he was talking about) almost walked away from practice from frustration. My mind is set on this year but if Richards is starting for us next year, it's gonna be a rough year unless he improves this year, which he has a whole season to do so.

Green led the EYBL in assists before his senior season and averaged nearly 10 a game in high school I think. He distributed just fine. Only thing I can figure is he doesn’t lead a team the way Cal wants.

Rest of your post I can agree with.

Also led Neuman-Goretti to four straight PA state championships, with different rosters (only 3 guys played together all 4 years). Pretty sure he was the PG all 4 of those years. He was as good a high school PG in terms of accomplishments as any PG that Cal has signed.

Not real sure how the G league works but I imagine 125,000 dollars is a lot of money to some of these kids. I'll bet you will have some kids explorer that path and maybe Quade looks into it.

It's a lot of money to this adult too.

This makes absolutely no sense

Yes, yes it does. OP was surprised that Green isn’t expected back. Our players will jump at any chance to leave for almost any professional league, NBA be damned. You HAVE to expect that our players are leaving within two years come hell or high water. Green will leave for the Backwater Basketball Conglomeration so long as it’s a “pro” league.

This. Victim of our own success. Every player that commits dreams of being one and done. For many they are. For others they're discontent about coming back when they hadn't planned beyond one year.

Only a small percentage come back a few years and continually improve, even though it's a perfectly viable path to the NBA here (poythress, ulis, wcs, briscoe, etc)

It is a lot of money for a season but unless you are sure you will stick around it's not worth it. $125k is nothing for a career so you have to be really certain that it will be a continuous paycheck. Also most don't get anywhere near that amount. The typical G leaguer gets about $30k. Quade will likely be in that range.
They increased it last year to 75,000! The 125,000 is for 5 star high school seniors who chose not to go the college route!

He’s 7’ tall. Quade is maybe 5’10”. No way he’s playing in the NBA. No way. No way.

THEY DONT CARE. They’re one and dones who have been there a year too long in their minds. Quade will play in the G league, the Z league, the CBA, China, WHEREVER. What he isn’t going to do is play another year for free while being recruited over. That doesn’t help him be a pro (in his mind).

And that my friends is what this program has become over the last few years. Calipari hasn't been getting the elite of the elite, but we've gotten a lot of the 2nd tier players (who are still McDonalds AAs) who aren't ready for the NBA but they leave anyway. Even if they're not leaving for the NBA they're going overseas or they're playing in the G-League.

These are the kind of players that should be staying 3 or 4 years which you can win a national title with, but ours just don't stick around for some reason. Wenyen is a perfect example. Even the ones who do come back for their Sophomore years are sure to leave after that. Now, is Quade leaving? Probably not, but it wouldn't surprise me if he transferred or leaves for the G-League. We're the only big time program that this happens to. Duke has a lot of these type of players stick around for 3-4 years, Kansas and North Carolina always do too. I just don't understand why some of these guys feel like the need to get out of here as fast as possible when they're not 1st Round picks.

If Carlonia can keep Barnes for two years, and a guy like Justin Jackson for 4 years then we need to get guys like Quade and Richard's to stay.

Green has played better this year. Sucked against Duke but has played well since.

There were serious rumblings about him leaving last year, per KSR. And at the time it didn't seem like he was leaning towards coming back. Then there were weird comments from his HS coach, and maybe even cal. But the comments were basically "Quade is a PG and he wants to be the PG". Which is fine, he should go somewhere and be the PG, imo. I was shocked he came back with all the PG's we had coming in.
KSR hit the nail on the head last year. Quade won't be back. Drew said Mo Bamba was for sure coming here too

Most of us made our feelings known when his departure was rumored this offseason. Apparently Cal talked him back.

If he wants to leave, he better pick a place that can make him taller and a better athlete. Because those are his issues.

He’ll hit the ceiling Ulis hit. Once you’ve improved as much as you’re going to why not go play in Europe versus sticking around to play for free?

Because he's no better than 100 other guards around the country. Should they all leave for overseas too?

Cal tells players the truth. If Quade came here thinking he would get to the NBA but is playing back up, then he has to do a reality check. Moving colleges isnt gonna make him an all star and NBA bound if he cant beat freshman here. If he cant guard alot of NBA bound players in college, he certainly wont be able to guard them in the NBA after they have personal trainers and play up to their competition. He can transfer if he would like to but it isnt gonna help him if professional ball is his goal. Only hard work and effort will help that but even then its limited to his own personal abilities.

uk has two guys right now for 2019 that would start on this years team. if cal get pull a miracle and land the edwards kid your starters would be:
PG: maxey
SG: edwards
SF: whitney

your backups would be:
PG: hagans
SG: quickley
SF: herro

no playing time for green and baker. i expect both to leave.
