Just now on KSR, Jones was talking about our guards for next year, and listed IQ, AH and Maxey. Ryan said "you don't think Quade will be back?", to which Jones paused and said "I don't think so". I am pretty sure he doesn't believe QG is NBA bound next year, so I am very puzzled why he said that. I don't sense that Quade is unhappy but I can only base that on games. Anybody think otherwise?

Why would that surprise you in the slightest? Humphries left for the Australian pro league. Enough said.

Not real sure how the G league works but I imagine 125,000 dollars is a lot of money to some of these kids. I'll bet you will have some kids explorer that path and maybe Quade looks into it.

There were serious rumblings about him leaving last year, per KSR. And at the time it didn't seem like he was leaning towards coming back. Then there were weird comments from his HS coach, and maybe even cal. But the comments were basically "Quade is a PG and he wants to be the PG". Which is fine, he should go somewhere and be the PG, imo. I was shocked he came back with all the PG's we had coming in.

If Herro finally gets going where's his PT going to come from. Just depends on how content he is with being a backup for his last two years.

We went thru this last year but I think he pulls the trigger this time.

I really hate to hear that but am not surprised. I don't see Richards coming back either. Don't ask me where he's gonna go but I just don't think it'll be Kentucky.

QG would be a great PG for a mid major or a lower tier Power 5 team.

At UK, he'll get minutes, but he'll always have to fight for them and will probably come off the bench more often than not.

Green has always been a PG, believes he’s a PG, was recruiting as a PG, and hasn’t gotten to play PG for 2 years now.

He’ll transfer. Almost transferred after last season.

UK doesn’t return juniors that aren’t from KY or didn’t have a season ending injury. Richards won’t be back either, most likely.

Quade's attitude has suprised me this year. With last year's rumblings that he might leave, the wild shot against KSU, etc., I thought he might be a bit of a malcontent this year. He's been nothing of the sort. He's been a great team player. As long as he keeps that up through the year, I'll support anything he chooses to do after the season.

It is a lot of money for a season but unless you are sure you will stick around it's not worth it. $125k is nothing for a career so you have to be really certain that it will be a continuous paycheck. Also most don't get anywhere near that amount. The typical G leaguer gets about $30k. Quade will likely be in that range.

And that my friends is what this program has become over the last few years. Calipari hasn't been getting the elite of the elite, but we've gotten a lot of the 2nd tier players (who are still McDonalds AAs) who aren't ready for the NBA but they leave anyway. Even if they're not leaving for the NBA they're going overseas or they're playing in the G-League.

These are the kind of players that should be staying 3 or 4 years which you can win a national title with, but ours just don't stick around for some reason. Wenyen is a perfect example. Even the ones who do come back for their Sophomore years are sure to leave after that. Now, is Quade leaving? Probably not, but it wouldn't surprise me if he transferred or leaves for the G-League. We're the only big time program that this happens to. Duke has a lot of these type of players stick around for 3-4 years, Kansas and North Carolina always do too. I just don't understand why some of these guys feel like the need to get out of here as fast as possible when they're not 1st Round picks.

I know exactly why they do it......because they know they'll fight for playing time after better talent comes in and they aren't interested in that. I can't blame them, and I can't blame Cal for getting the best players he can every year.

Maybe I'm wrong but in the beginning wasn't he recruited for icing on the cake because we thought Bamba was coming only he didn't come and we were stuck with Ryan harrows cousin

two years is a lot of time to show your skills as a stud coming out of high school. let’s not pretend we’re still not the kings of one and done. we still have twice the output of duke overall.

A lot can change as the season goes along, but right now it looks like we will be returning Quickly, Hagans, and Herro. Combine those returners with Maxey and it's difficult to see where Quade's minutes might come from. He could be the 3rd option at both guard spots.

Quade wants to take care of his mom. They are a poor family. He did not plan on staying for two years, much less three, in college. I don't think he will transfer either, unless he really doesn't get to play any PG this year at UK and feels he needs to show his PG skills to the pros to have a chance.

He’ll hit the ceiling Ulis hit. Once you’ve improved as much as you’re going to why not go play in Europe versus sticking around to play for free?

Isn't Baker a guard as well?

Seems like part of the problem is we have two freshman 5 star guards in Quickly and Hagans that have been, politely, unimpressive at all.

We recruit with this anthem as our rallying cry: Come to UK and we'll put you in the best position to be drafted.

Quade picked UK over Syracuse because he bought into this anthem. Another year at UK would only enhance the pretty widespread "Charles Matthews syndrome" of thinking the program didn't do right by him. If he's at UK again, it means either Quade failed or UK failed him. The third option and most logical position is that of understanding how hard it is to make the league. This third scenario doesn't seem to be an option for these second tier kids like SKJ, Matthews, Poole, and perhaps Quade.

In the modern basketball culture of this inflated sense of self, which option do you think a kid like Quade will go with if he's making his decision to stay for a third year or split next summer? Think he'll take the rational path or the "UK screwed me" path?

Jones is merely following historical precedent with kids like Quade.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right about the transfer at the end of the season. But I'm not sure it's true that "Green has always been a PG" - which is relevant to the point I wanted to make.

I thought it had been stated that Green was a somewhat "chubby" SG earlier in his high school career, and due to his height peaking at 6' he then concentrated on becoming a PG. I don't think he ever had a really good feel for being a distributor and I don't think he was ever considered to be a ball-handling wizard breaking people down off the dribble. But what he could do was shoot, particularly in comparison to other PGs and coming off curls/picks. Plus, he was also apparently pretty tough as a player - which is a plus.

I believe that Green's biggest problem in playing PG at UK is that UK has had other options for the PG role that fit better into what that particular UK team needed. But I also think part of the issue is Green's best skill set strengths are not those one often associates with a PG, and are more so those of a SG. Still, I think Green is/can be a good college PG. I'm just not convinced he's always (or maybe ever) going to be the best option for that position given the talent UK usually brings in annually. But maybe he proves otherwise.

I have quit trying to predict what our roster will look like. I just assume everyone will leave and feel pleasntly surprised if some return.

Exactly! I made a post last week where someone had asked about who returns next year and I said at this point I expect everyone NOT named Brad Calipari or Zan Payne to leave.

Green led the EYBL in assists before his senior season and averaged nearly 10 a game in high school I think. He distributed just fine. Only thing I can figure is he doesn’t lead a team the way Cal wants.

Rest of your post I can agree with.

He's in the same boat Briscoe was in. These kids that aren't NBA caliber get recruited over. It's why Teague left, it's why Lamb left and Briscoe.

Sure, and I expect him to be back, I just think Green would likely be ahead of Baker on the depth chart. It isn't as assured that he would be ahead of Quickly, Hagans, Herro, or Maxey. So it would be a big risk to come back. With transfer rules being relaxed he may jump at the opportunity to play back in Philadelphia where he's from.

It’s simple. Matt Jones is an idiot. He talks out of control of his mouth. He doesn’t know squat

Green didn’t want to be back this year so that’s not surprising.

If any of our guards leave this year I will just LOL.

This should be the end of thread here. Every word of it is true. Regardless of him saying otherwise, Quade was set on transferring this summer. Cal talked him into coming back. Things really haven’t changed for Green this year so he will leave one way or another. I’ll be shocked if we have a junior Quade. I’d love to have him back but I don’t see it.
