How did we do for injuries today? Brown went down, I'm wondering if he aggravated an old injury.
The attendance looked better than Stanford; was It?

Washington got hurt as well. By all accounts I have seen, attendance was strong for a noncon...
Yes, endzone/student corner seemed pretty empty, but i thought attendance looked decent overall.Having all the high school marching bands and their families helped with attendance. After the half, when the band kids left, the endzone and student corner seemed pretty empty.
I’m not sure why they don’t ask the bands to stay for the duration of the game. They said that has 2,700 band members there, which likely means close to 7,500 if parents attended. Would be nice to keep them in the stadium for the whole game.Announced attendance over 37,000. I'm guessing about 1/3 of them left in the 3rd quarter, especially on the east side and the end zone.

They also can't wear their school colors or fly their banners in the parking lots. Now we're suggesting softly forcing high school bands to stay?
And they were in Rocky Miller Park preparing for some time beforehand. Even though they left early, it was a pretty long day. My first dozen or so Cats games were on band day - my dad was a music teacher. As a kid I successfully fought to have my mom drive up separately on a couple of occasions so I could stay for the whole game. She's a keeper.Band uniforms are heavy and hot in 80 degree sunshine. The East stands can be our version of Stanford Stadium's "Wok" this time of year. I don't have a problem with their early exit.
They walked right past me on their exit and dozens of the band members carrying the Drums and Tuba’s were drenched in sweat. Flutes have no place in a "Marching Band"! Just kidding, sort of.They walked right past me on their exit and dozens of the band members carrying the Drums and Tuba’s were drenched in sweat. Heck, so were the flute players.

Oh sorry. The crowd size looked pretty good on TV and would expect many more next week. A note, slightly off subject but noticed that NU got about a dozen sentences of coverage on the bottom of page 11 in the Trib., while the illini got a full page. Could that have something to do with Fitz basically shutting out the press? Oh and it looks like they are serving beer down in Rantoul way. I know they serve it in Minneapolis and think Purdue now but Evanston, still a no.Hey there, my son plays flute...

But, but shouldn't a winning team on the Chicago border get more than a few lines. The press does seem to remember things like you aren't allowed to watch or can't write about this or that, don't' you think?Nah, the amount of Illini covrerage is due to the fact that trainwrecks make for much better clickbait for journalists. Believe me, if we had lost yesterday, it would have been all over the Trib...
And the Illini fans will need a ton of beer during this season..well, what's left of those fans, that is. Attendance for them is already in midseason form...
Not how journalism works, imo. If there was something clickbait-worthy about yesterday's game, they would write it even if Fitz decided to hold practices on the moon. It was a nice, boring win, so no clickbait. On the other hand, Illinois losing that game was quite a story-- just not the type of press they want...But, but shouldn't a winning team on the Chicago border get more than a few lines. John Philip Sousa would whip your *** for that comment.Flutes have no place in a "Marching Band"! Just kidding, sort of.

They probably don't care about NU football. No connection to the programI understand why some of the bands leave right away after halftime as they've got long drives back home, but ETHS, Niles North, and the Maine Township schools????

Many may not care about football in general
Attendance on West side was surprisingly good and people stayed. And UNLV only brought a handful. Not bad for a Sept non con before school starts

I'll never forget attending the game at UNLV in 2001 (just before 9/11). A $50 cab ride to the stadium, cocktails served at the stadium (only in Vegas), overpriced water, brawls on the UNLV side of the stadium (well, they were selling cocktails) and an NU win despite comically bad play by our secondary (which unfortunately became a trend later in the season).
I was at that game also. I thought it was 2002 but NU stopped UNLV on the goal line at the end of the game
I also remember a "fixe prix" dinner at the Bellagio for 4. My family dined on a couple of small portion plates, I was wondering where the entrée was, but the waiter informed me that we had completed the dinner. I was presented a bill for over $900(no alcohol either)
We stopped at the buffet afterwards-a choice I had vetoed before because of a short wait.
The other recollection from that trip was ,while at poolside, I marveled at the skill of plastic surgeons and the willingness of their patients to promote their work
Next year, UNLV will be moving into the Raiders' new NFL stadium just on the other side of the interstate from the strip. That's going to be nuts, and you know it will be the favorite road trip destination for every college and NFL fan whose teams are playing there.I'll never forget attending the game at UNLV in 2001 (just before 9/11). was there also and how about those so called parking lots!I'll never forget attending the game at UNLV in 2001 (just before 9/11). No piccolo. No Stars and Stripes Forever. In which case, you’ve got no marching band.If that's the case, probably best not to know your thoughts on the piccolo!
So what kind of crowd is expected for next Saturday. Students? 11AM!Attendance for September daytime non-conference games has been on a nice upward trend in recent years:
2018 vs. Duke: 40k
2017 vs. Nevada: 33k
2016 vs. WMU: 30k
2016 vs. ISU: 30k
2015 vs. Stanford: 36k
2015 vs. EIU: 29k
2015 vs. Duke: 24k
Some of these games were band days as well, which helped. I'll give JP credit for hustling group ticket sales for these games too.
Doubt the bands count. I believe NU uses tickets sold as the basis for attendance, not butts in the seats. No way there were 37,000+ fannies in the bleachers Saturday. Tickets sold probably reflects Io_a and dOSU fans who bought season tickets to get seats for their games in Evanston. Are we sure the bands count towards attendance? This past week I think some of the bands were outside the stadium for the first half.
I didn't know you could bring fans into the stadium. Where do you plug them in? I could have used oneWe sit on the East side on the 40 yd line and it was REALLY hot facing the sun the whole afternoon. We did stay the whole time but not many around us did - it was quite uncomfortable. Winning made it better but I can see why some left - especially families with kids and older fans,
