Actually, the exact opposite. The powers to be were adamant NOT to have another coach that overshadowed the school. That mentality has trickled down over the years. I think it changes with Dolson. Those boosters with big money, know little about Knight, TBH. Mark Cuban being one. That dude has repeatedly stated----"When it comes to a coach, money will not be an issue."....Now the Kochs are a different animal. But look, it has zero to do with the boosters....It has to do with the administration. No matter how much money there is, if the AD/President don't wanna hire "The Guy", it ain't gonna matter how much $$$ there are.
When Davis resigned, there were 4 names that were highly interested in the Indiana job: Belien, Calipari, Sampson and Matta. The administration demanded/wanted a minority hire...Why? I dunno. But they did. And well , IU hires Sampson. Now, from a coaching standpoint----Home Run. Dude can coach. But from an ethical standpoint? Yikes. It was a terrible decision. Indiana could have had Bennett during the Davis years. BUT, well, Davis takes Indiana to the title game. Now---I mean, how do you not extend a guy who just took you to the National title game, 2 years into his tenure?
It has been one bad decision after another. Decision's fueled by Bob Knight, and the previous administration. Bobby had become bigger than the University, and the powers to be were determined to never let that happen again. Under Dolson, I think that changes. He's a dude that understands what Indiana Basketball means to the people of Indiana. Miller had better win----Because of he does not---Dolson will not mess around.
