Illinois is a statistical miracle

There are 129 college football teams total in FBS. There are 25 major team statistical categories. Somehow, someway, the lolIllini are racked below 100 in SIXTEEN of them. In five of those sixteen, they are ranked in the bottom 10 in the country---total offense (125th), rushing offense (121st), team passing efficiency (124th), scoring offense (124th), and first downs offense (126th).

To put these stats in their proper perspective, Nebby's rushing defense (the one where the blackshirts appear to be attempting to avoid contact with everyone who rushes the ball) is not even in the bottom 10 in the country. So being in the bottom-10 is clown-like bad.

To their credit, they are in the top-30 in ONE statistical category, red zone offense (T-30th in the few times they actually reach the red zone). Rutgers has managed not to be in the top-30 in any, but they are only below 100 in nine categories

Just absolutely dreadful. And those stats figure to decline even further after playing us tomorrow, since, we are in the top-30 in eight categories.

Flat-*** terrible.

Yup. Out of curiosity, I took a look at our 2015 offense, when CT barely passed the ball and we pretty much had to rely on our defense to win games. We were bottom 10 in just ONE offensive category (team passing efficiency). So to be the bottom-10 in FIVE offensive categories is quite an accomplishment...

That’s horrifically bad.

But Kansas is worse, right?

About the same. They are below 100 in 15 categories (compared to the lolIllini's 16) but they do win out in bottom-10 categories (a horribad 8, though some of those are in categories such as net punting, while Illinois' are all in the most major categories).

But they do rank 11th in Red Zone offense! Sensing a trend here?

Stats are for losers. Let’s just win the game, not get anyone injured and prepare ourselves for a Bowl game.

And yet...

We have probably lost to worse teams.

Must be like mildly delinquent juveniles on Halloween and smash pumpkins

And don't forget, this is their Bowl game. Nothing is a lock. Illinois State. NU will come focussed.

Well of course NOTHING is a lock, but this is a horrific team we are playing. And stats, in this case, are highly refectory of the team''s play. If you haven't seen them uet, you are in for a treat if you're a fan of bad football. Minny last week? I've seen lolIllinois play worse than that this seaskn, if you can believe it. They are stupefyingly bad, and I enjoy every moment of it...

Did you enjoy Illinois' touchdown and the interception in the first quarter?

I realized they were meaningless since a) we had prepped for a different QB all week (a number reports indicated that Thomas would not play), and it took us a drive to adjust, b) CT was not going to throw another bad int in the red zone again, and we would in the red zone many times and c) most importantly lolIllinois.
