If Ryan Day can do it why can't HCSF

I think it is. If the talent disparity isn’t huge then why do we lose to Colorado and get beat up at the Los by S. Alabama? I don’t see the Buckeyes getting handled on the line by either and they would destroy both.
I guess we will see when the all Big Ten teams are announced at season’s end and how many Huskers are on them.
I'm starting to wonder about some of these position coaches.

It is weird because this is the staff that could do no wrong at UCF.

Frost spoke at Offutt and pointed out some major differences between taking over UCF and NU.

1. UCF was winless and the players completely bought in to Scott's plan...their fan base had turned on them, the stadium was empty, and their previous coach had quit early. Scott was viewed as a savior.

2. Most of the players who played for Riley were recruited by him and to be honest, only giving a coach three years and forcing a new DC on him in year 2 is systemic incompetence at its highest. Some of the players had been through three coaches by the time Frost came in...the fans viewed Frost as a savior but the players were resistant initially because their guy wasn't really given a fair shake. And simply, UCF has pro, nfl talent and Nebraska doesn't in the upperclasses.

3. As a result 34 players left, many by choice. The junior and senior classes are completely gutted and some of the worst in NU history...and even worse they lack leadership...in general football teams are only as good as their upperclassman leadership. This team has its leadership in the younger classes, but how much can a 19 year old lead 22 years olds...I guess we are seeing it right now.

I don't know Solana. I don't think we have the talent to be conf champs, but we have plenty enough to thoroughly beat our first two opponents.

That Ryan Day he took over Ohio States and he has his guys running through walls and he got a new qb who is a yungin and he got them rollin'. How come that HCSF can't get our boys rollin' in the same way, HCSF he makes more money too and he been here at Nebraskie longer. I want the Huskers to be like the Buck I's. How come we aint?
Consider the starting point. It is WAY easier to take over an Urban Meyer team than a Mike Riley team. Hell, even I could probably coach to a win with OSU right now.

I think your #1 is Frost tooting his own horn a little (which all younger coaches are known to do from time to time). UCF was 31-9 in the 3 seasons prior to the 0-12 debacle. The talent he had there when he got there was likely still fairly solid.

I think you're pretty on with 2 and 3...although the CU team they lost to was younger in their starting 22 than Nebraska was (9 were RS Sophs and younger).

One inherited tons of NFL talent and one did not.

Apparently, SF doesn't have the same brand of magic wand that Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day have.

I like the realism in your post....but I do have to tell you that, as far as the projected depth charts were concerned heading into the Colorado-Nebraska game, Colorado had more guys in their starting 22 that were RS Sophs and younger (I believe it was 9 for CU to 5 for Nebraska).

I'd agree with you that there doesn't need to be the talk about canning him, but as someone with no skin in the game (a guy that grew up in CO supporting Colorado and Air Force through the good and the bad....living in the great state of Nebraska...UNK grad...with the Buffs being a team I didn't play on at a school I didn't attend), I don't think Frost is going to be the savior many painted him to be when he was hired. I think he get's you 9-10 wins a season once he gets on track, with occasionally playing for a conference title. I guess the question is whether or not that's good enough.

And to clarify...Colorado and Air Force last played each other when I was 18 months old. It was very possible to be a fan of both growing up.

Not sure where u are getting ur depth chart info but it is wrong, and way off.

CU 21 rs sophs and below on their O and D two deep.

NU 22 rs sophs and below on their O and D two deep.

You lost to Air Force, you shouldnt have period. That is if you consider yourself to be a 7 or so win team this year.

1) Read my post again…..I said the 22 starters (11 on offense, 11 on defense). I didn’t say anything about the 2-deep on each side. If I’m remembering correctly, I got the projected starters from Huskermax….which said they’d be starting 7 FR/SO against NIU.

2) Having one more young guy on the 2-deep doesn’t suddenly make Colorado the veteran team of the two.

3) I had CU at 5-7 on the season, including a 1-2 start (beating CSU, losing to Nebraska and Air Force)….so no, I’m not expecting a 7 win season. As a matter of fact, they’ll probably lose next weekend in Tempe.

I noticed last year OSU's d line was pretty small. We were able to run on them. I don't think losing to Colorado was a talent issue. It was a coaching and not being ready to start the year issue. We have enough talent on this team that if they are developed well enough, we can play with and beat Ohio State. Heck we should have pulled out the win last year if it wasn't for a few blown coverages by the defense.
