But let’s say we brought in a Marcus Carr type transfer to replace Geo and the other 4 starters came back. We could conceivable be a preseason top 25 team in that scenerio - no? We’re going to pick up a guard like that by the way. Those of you who think we won’t don’t seem to understand how many good guards there are out there. That wasn’t what we needed last year.

Replacing RHJ and Caleb, is going to be much harder if they don’t return. There are usually less forwards like Ron in the portal and there are exactly 10 national DPOY finalists to begin with.

Too much here to unpack, particularly since I only posted to note that the top 5 OP was nuts. But if all all those ifs happen, including that we get a guy better than Geo, sure, we might open in the tope 5, but might not.

That’s exactly the point. If Geo was all we had to replace, top 5 would be a long shot, but we’d still be in very good shape.

Exactly. And if top 25 is reasonable, that would make top 5 bold but not “completely nuts” depending on the relative production we would get from Geo’s replacement.

If I was setting the odds - I’d put probability of both RHJ and Caleb returning at 95 / 5 against. The odds of only one returning at 65 / 35 against. It’s been a week since the ND game. If there’s zero chance whatsoever for a return, an announcement will come soon. No reason to wait to hire an agent in that case.

I didn’t think RJH would ever come back - but he seems to love it at RU and another year means he can work on his body, game and truly be the man on next years team.

Could be the difference between a late 2nd rounder and 1st rounder.

I don’t think he returns but wouldn’t be shocked if he did.

There are those who just say it, and there's those who really, really want to say it but know it looks silly, so they creep around it, write word salad and posit if this and then if that, but this if has a chance to be an even better if, and if that better if is then coupled with this other thing, which together have a 62.5% chance of happening, plus or minus, then maybe we're national champions, but only if those things I mentioned or thought to myself happen. The point the OP was making is that if we were replacing only Geo we would be well positioned for next season. Not projected top 5, but within one good guard away from having at least a small chance of being that good. That is all.

Hyatt’s minutes at the four this year were a lot better than his minutes at the three …especially on defense . I think Hyatt will be a lot more solid at the 4.

You keep saying things that were not what was said. “That would be a top 5 team” is not the same as saying “it’s not completely nuts to hope the team could be that level with the addition of one really good guard”. Those 2 statements are not remotely the same.
