so Billy Donovan, who absolutely gave the “probably interested” line, is sitting getting ready for a Bulls game, and doesn’t just shoot down the speculation. He’s preparing for THE BULLS in the PLAYOFFS, and instead of saying I’m done in college and no I’m not interested nor speaking with Kentucky, then goes on a 1 minute rumbling rant outlining how speculation is wrong and he DID enjoy recruiting in college, and continued to make a case for why he WOULD return to college?

Then, Kentucky, who would absolutely name their guy by now if it were Drew, and Drew, who would have absolutely tweeted out he committed is to staying at Baylor if he wasn’t interested, is totally totally silent?

MEANWHILE Kentucky is still sitting and waiting when they absolutely WOULD NOT be doing that as they know John Calipari is steadily trying to rip away the recruits from this program.

And Oats who has not been contacted by UK declines UK. Hurley, who is NOT COMING to UK, has his name mentioned as the hold up late last night?

Looks like it doesn’t take a genius to figure this out. Donovan is the holdup but we’re giving him the respect of waiting this out and trying to figure out how he’s going to exit. I do not believe they will give Donovan the week, the only way that would work is if he announces it anyway and continues to couch, having his guys start to handle the work load at UK.
I hope this is true.

One other thing to consider. Maybe Donovan said it the way he said it to see if the BULLS were serious about keeping him? He knows he’s on the hot seat and maybe he did that to see how Bulls fans would react across social media, and how the brass in Chicago would receive it.

Also to consider, Calipari making his push to return to Kentucky. It appears there’s definitely something to that, which was received by a hell no. Calipari would absolutely not want to be upstaged in his legacy by Billy Donovan. Donovan coming to UK would ruin his dominant image here and invalidate much of his time. He’s the name who could do that with this state, sending Calipari’s massive ego into a tailspin while he’s sitting in bum f pigville where he doesn’t even want to be. I don’t think Calipari can handle that. I could see him giving in and trying to undo it.

Something has gone on with the boosters of Kentucky and John Calipari. Losing to teams he has never lost to, bringing Reed off the bench (and Dilly), things like ripping the floor up that everyone liked, seemingly always doing things the fan base did not like, I think he’s been sabotaging the program to force the brass into giving the money and they wanted him out and weren’t going to do it. I mean Calipari was doing things with our brand that make no sense, taking the best program and making it into the ugliest brand in basketball who began to lose to anyone with a pulse.

Something went on with Calipari and UK and it’s been happening for a while. Billy Donovan is the guy whose mere presence would turn that situation totally sideways. Kentucky’s brass knows that and knows we desperately need it.

I’m fine with Drew if it comes to him but it has to COME TO that. I think like RaginRondo thinks, Donovan is the holdup and the Hurley info was a smoke screen so Drew, who thinks he’s the second candidate, isn’t offended and decides to stay before we get to him. I just think it makes sense and UK going after Hurley would be logical to Drew, but adding Donovan into the mix could make him react and want to show Baylor he wasn’t leaving in the first place. Drew does not want to be left looking like he was going to take it then have the rug pulled out from out from him.

Pilgrim got that smoke screen from someone at UK. They’re on Donovan’s agent right now figuring this out. Boosters probably want Donovan.

I hope you’re right man. That would be a grand slam hire right there.

Donovan is not leaving the nba. Its going to be drew or then down to the next tier of coaches. Mark Pope is a lot higher on the list than people think

If that’s what you take away from watching Donovan ramble on in ways that basically means he’s interested, while also getting into WHY people are WRONG and he does enjoy recruiting (LOL) during the PLAYOFFS FOR THE BULLS no less, then don’t get into any business where properly managing future outcomes is necessary.

Obviously a light hearted crack at ya, but yea there’s no way what you’re saying could even be remotely considered 100% given those circumstances,

Billy D literally gave the generic (I’m interested) typical coaches line and and even got into reasons he would still coach in college lol.

Not to mention the Bulls fans want his head. Go look at their social media. No way he survives in Chicago.

Also @RaginRondo is correct, he’s making like 6 million in Chicago. This is the bigger issue, we can nearly double or double that. He’s about to be unemployed and might not get an offer like that again, and might not get another NBA job. Hell his contract ENDS IN SEPTEMBER and he will NOT BE THE BULLS HEAD COACH. Thats almost a certainty.

People this is real. This job could be the difference in Donovan making another 50 million dollars lol. And it’s the closest job he could get to the NBA.

Let me say that I'd be tickled to death if Donovan was named our next coach.

That being said, he's pretty much the riskiest option out there since he's been out of college for 10 years and really hasn't accomplished much in almost 20 years. He's been an average NBA coach. He's also turned us down twice.

Again, I'd be thrilled, but there's a reason he's 3rd on the list behind Hurley and Drew.

I edited the last sentence. I mean think about that last one above about the money . I’m either takin heroin or at minimum Billy D wants this job.
I’d like to see him get away from Chicago. After how I seen Chicago fans treat Jerry Krauses widow. Made that poor woman cry like they did when they recognized him at half time of that ball game. It was extremely sad.

edit- it's clear nobody has their sarcasm detectors turned on.

I think it's goofy to think that Billy Donovan somehow can't coach college ball now. If anything, he's probably learned a ton from coaching the pros. He would be perfect.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. You're either a good coach or not. You don't forget how to coach. The NBA game has changed dramatically since Donovan went there as well. He's had to adjust also.

I will say this, though. I was just reading a comment section from Chicago Bulls fans and they are happy Donovan might be leaving. It's a good riddance kind of thing, similar to the way UK fans have been about Calipari, which is difficult for me to believe, but I just read it myself.

Chicago fans are mean. If people think our fans are bad they should see how some of these pro teams fans act or college football programs fans

Agree with what you're saying, but he could have just as easily said 'I'm not interested' while at the same time having his agent contact Mitch. Wouldn't be the first coach (see Cal at Memphis or Saban at the Dolphins) to do that.

Makes me wonder, and we'll never know, how many agents have put calls in to Mitch. Quite a few I imagine.
