Heard from a reliable source that Billy Ds wife has given her blessing and he is for sure entertaining the idea. He wants a five year deal and a guarantee that Mitch stays the whole time during his tenure. No new AD. There are other things he wants but money isn’t a driving factor. He just has to decide if he wants to get out of the NBA and the timeline is an issue.
Gawd I hope you are not trolling us because I think this would be fantastic. Also MB would get a lifetime contract for pulling this off..

Plus Chicago/ILL and their taxes SUCK..... he'd get a hell of a pay increase just with that.

I still think it’s a long shot. Got this info from the Pelphrey family. They stressed money isn’t a factor. His has a house paid off in St Augustine, a huge house in Gainesville and a paid off Brownstone in Chicago. They are rolling in it.

If he really wants the job then it's his for the taking in my opinion. No need to drag it out, he knows what he's coming into.
I still wouldn’t hold my breath, his absolutely will not quit on the bulls and timing is an issue. But I was happy to hear it wasn’t an automatic no.

He has been away from the college game for a long time. College basketball doesn't remotely resemble what it was when he was last a part of it. He is a bigger gamble than some think. UK tried to get him here twice before and he said no, why are things different now?

Agree. I'm not as high on him as others are. O actually put him at the same level as Scott Dres, if for nothing else Scorr Drew has coached in this era and he's going to have guys coming with him, and not have an NBA season in the way. Billy D, to me, really just provides the NBA level of expertise and experience, and that is a factor.

But it's on par with what Scott Drew brings. Scott Drew could win a title in year 1 with JQ, VJ and his recruiting class, and others. Billy D probably needs a year or two just to get acclimated.

edit- it's clear nobody has their sarcasm detectors turned on.

I think it's goofy to think that Billy Donovan somehow can't coach college ball now. If anything, he's probably learned a ton from coaching the pros. He would be perfect.
I think so too considering the pros is where these changes first take place.

Doesn’t matter what we want, Mitch is gonna do what he wants to do.

It is going to take a new AD to see real change.

I’m hearing some great stuff about Drew now. If he comes he is bringing a major weapon with him. Billy Armstrong, Bill is at link academy with 5-6 pros. He’s jasper johnsons coach.

Seems I remember Donovan saying yes to UK, then backing out at the last minute when he was at Florida. Anybody else remember that?

If Donovan is interested, it’s nothing to do with money. He’s filthy rich. He is going to come here because he wants out of the pros and back into the college game.

He sounds interested. If he wants it, give him a shot. He’s the only hire that most of us will be excited about.

We don’t need to worry about the timeframe. Just hire him and he can get his assistants in Lexington to get the recruiting ball rolling. Bring in Pelphrey to start with. Have him start by getting the Sheppards on board. Then the rest of the players already there. Then start working the portal.

Barney isn't even going to go after him. What a joke. He has his buddy Drew locked in and isn't even going to try the pie in the sky names. Fire this idiot!

I could see winning multiple titles at two different schools being a motivator for BD.

Once again, Donovan is not a fan of recruiting. That's been one factor that's kept him in the NBA.

What I found to be interesting, he’s been keeping up with what’s going on at Kentucky, “Has John even left yet?.” If not following somewhat closely, you’d thought Cal had already left by the news cycle.

so Billy Donovan, who absolutely gave the “probably interested” line, is sitting getting ready for a Bulls game, and doesn’t just shoot down the speculation. He’s preparing for THE BULLS in the PLAYOFFS, and instead of saying I’m done in college and no I’m not interested nor speaking with Kentucky, then goes on a 1 minute rumbling rant outlining how speculation is wrong and he DID enjoy recruiting in college, and continued to make a case for why he WOULD return to college?

Then, Kentucky, who would absolutely name their guy by now if it were Drew, and Drew, who would have absolutely tweeted out he committed is to staying at Baylor if he wasn’t interested, is totally totally silent?

MEANWHILE Kentucky is still sitting and waiting when they absolutely WOULD NOT be doing that as they know John Calipari is steadily trying to rip away the recruits from this program.

And Oats who has not been contacted by UK declines UK. Hurley, who is NOT COMING to UK, has his name mentioned as the hold up late last night?

Looks like it doesn’t take a genius to figure this out. Donovan is the holdup but we’re giving him the respect of waiting this out and trying to figure out how he’s going to exit. I do not believe they will give Donovan the week, the only way that would work is if he announces it anyway and continues to couch, having his guys start to handle the work load at UK.
