If Cal doesn't play Sharpe soon...

...He should be fired.

Sharpe is the best recruit we've had in a long time and we clearly need another guard.

There is ZERO excuse not to play him at least 10 minutes per game to see what he can do.

Don't give me that lousy 'fitness' excuse. He doesn't have to play 39 minutes. He can contribute and I'm sure he's better than Hopkins/Collins/Allen/Ware three of whom have been playing during those minutes where our lead shrinks.

Don't give me that lousy 'BuT hE nEeDs To LeArN TeH OfFenSe!' excuse unless you can actually articulate what offense we currently run other than GOOOOOOOOOOOOO! RUUUUUUUUUUUN!

Don't give me that lousy 'but he needs to learn defense' excuse after I just mentioned Hopkins/Collins/Allen/Ware.

On the other hand, if Cal plays Sharpe NOW and he gets integrated into the lineup and starts contributing, even as little as 8/4 a game in, say, 15 minutes, we could be a FF team THIS YEAR.

Hopefully Cal is just keeping his cards close but IMHO Sharpe should be playing next week.

But I'm suspicious that Cal doesn't want him to play for fear of Sharpe exploding and making Cal look bad because he didn't get to 'train' him first.

You are getting goofier with each passing day. Give the kid a chance to acclimate and then see what happens. He will play but when Cal decides, not you. No one wants to win more than Cal except for maybe, me.

I don't disagree that we need to see what the kid has got, but if you know ANYTHING about Cal, it's that he will never do anything to put a kid in a bad position. It's kids before program, and that will never change.

If he puts in Sharpe and he trends toward BJ Boston performance, that will hurt his draft stock.

I'm doubtful that he could look as bad as Boston did, but who knows.

I think Cal will play him, but it's going to take the players and Sharpe pushing for it.....not fans.

Then why is he here? You just validated my claim that Cal is fearful.

Call it what you want. He's looking out for the best interest of the kid, and I don't have a problem with that. Granted, at some point, it'd be great if the best interest of the kid directly overlaps with the best interest of the program, and I think it will happen this season. You'll just need to be patient. There's also no reason to doubt that he will be playing here next season at this point, so there's that.

Well there is only what about 6 weeks of regular season left? I suspect we will start to see him within the next 7-14 days. I’m sure it will be sparingly to start then we will see how he performs and hopefully it will expand from there. I do agree with the others who say that Cal has more reason than anyone to play him if it’s helpful to the team and season.

Even tho it’s used for recruiting (as it should be) I don’t overly buy into this assertion that Cal only cares about the kids and their draft status. It’s a part of it for all coaches, but these guys all wanna win at their core esp those who are HoF successful like Cal. My .02

You have to admit that we have an extreme need for another guard.

Allen got zero minutes and Hopkins looked lost at Vandy.

I was at the Vandy game. Hopkins had a bad possession when he entered but overall, I thought he played well. I really think he will be very good for us this season and especially next year.
Sharpe is going to be a very good one, whenever he plays. Like you, I hope it is soon. Wheeler coming back will be interesting. I personally think we beat UT by 12 or more on Saturday.

I 100% agree he should play asap at least 5-10 minutes a game and by February he would be up to 20 per game and perhaps more in March. Will this happen? I have my doubts. If we do not have Wheeler Saturday we probably lose to UT at home unless we shoot it from 3 really well and Oscar keeps up his Shaq like stats of late point per game wise.

An honest question here. The kids are part of the actual program. Isn't it a good thing Cal looks out for the best interest of the players? If it's in Sharpe's best interest AND the team's best interest (and the program's best interest) to play, he will. Looking out for the player's best interest helps the program, and also helps recruiting. I would rather have a coach that does right by his players, because it's the right thing to do. Players = Team = Program. It's not Kids > Program.

All that being said, my guess is we'll see Sharpe play this season because it is (or soon will be) in the best interest of all the above.

Do you just ***** to *****? He’ll eventually play him. He’s not going to tell us that. And yeah he might not be ready for a few weeks. Of course we know he’s talented enough. But the team has chemistry right now and he has to learn how to play with them. Which he will. He’ll play and probably thrive in due time. I’d say by February

Only need Sharp if the team starts to sputter. Why mess up a good thing? We do need to pickup the defense.
