Who recruited that talent? Talent is not the issue. Winning is the issue. Sorry to burst your bubble. You should be a VMI fan. Let's see how they finish the year.

Keep going. You almost had a break through.

Some people said we were good enough at guard without Tyrese Maxey and athletic enough without Diallo back.

Our offense is actually pretty great for not having our PG situation sorted out and our best shooter playing poorly.

Defense always takes time. As Hagans gets more comfortable in the spot that will eventually be his and Montgomery learns to maintain his energy and focus with starter minutes, we'll be fine there too.

We aren't the most talented team in the country, but how often does that win it all? We'll have a say in who cuts down the nets if we stay healthy.
What a difference a few days make. Until real games started, UK was getting a lot of hype. There's no dominant player on the team.
Guard play is the real issue right now imo, on offense and defense. Now Cal, is the best imo, but he's got his work cut out for him.
Unless a major event happens, Richards will be a non-factor again this year.

Our offense is very good at the things it is typically built to thrive on: offensive rebounding and getting to the line. It has a great opportunity to become even more efficient with better shooting and PG play. I think it’s off to a really good start.

Defensively, I’m less concerned about a guy hitting 10 mostly contested threes than I am the many open looks given up that didn’t go in and the tendency to give up straight line drives due to not sliding their feet. It’s clearly improved from the first game but there are lapses which almost always end in easy buckets.

A lot of that hype was based on hope and people's misguided beliefs. To folks who had been clamoring for returning players, a sophomore was suddenly going to be a different played. Instead, we've got basically the same Quade and Nick and an improved PJ.

We replaced SGA with Quickley, Knox with Keldon, SKJ with Montgomery, Gabriel with Travis, and Diallo with Herro. Some of those are net positives, some negatives, some play such different styles that it's tough to compare.

What we're left with is still a team that has to find their roles and learn how to play together. Most of our best players have never played college basketball. We've seen this before. But I think we're probably better balanced and deeper than in year's past. We'll be in the conversation come back. Beyond that it's a lot of luck. We'll see.

50 3’s? Wow. You guys do want to win games correct? Because they sure as heck wouldn’t have won last night if they would have taken 50 3 pointers!

We have one guy in particular that is pounding the table for 50 Threes a game. My posts about it are sarcasm as it's the stupidist thing I've ever seen here in regards to how we should play.

I'm out (RR) for the day. Best thing I have seen posted. Pretend this is UK after the second round. Round of 32.

Nobody is happy about the way we are playing. It’s November, have some perspective. And no, we don’t need to shoot 50 3’s per game. Especially with the way we have been shooting the ball. I do agree we need to shoot a few more, but that does not mean I want to see Travis and Washington shooting them.

There was a guy on here last year who said we need to take a bunch more threes and it didn’t matter whether or not they went in.

Whenever someone objected he would make up numbers like “If my team shoots 25% on 40 threes, 50% on 50 twos, and makes 10-12 free throws, and your team shoots 50% on 20 threes, 80% on 20 twos, and makes 8-12 free throws, my team wins 90-70!”

I hope you're right, but right now, I don't think they win the SEC. Auburn and UT are much better. Guard play is too crucial, especially in the NCAAT. UK's guards are the weak link right now.
This is a good team, but not a dominant team. They do not intimidate anyone. No rim protector. Fox, Monk and Bam team would eat this team alive.

It's embarrassing, quite honestly. But the guy wanting us to shoot 50 just wants his own personal enjoyment. He could care less if we lost. Sadly, if we shot 50 threes and lost he'd move the goalpost and blame it on something else.

Maybe, maybe not. That Fox squad let UCLA and Carolina hang a hundred on them and fans were distraught over the defense. Later in the year we lost three out of four to Kansas, Tennessee and Florida (by like 20) and fans were ready to write that year off.

Now we refer back to it as a team that would have won a title if we hadn't gotten Roofaree'd.

I don't think we have the top-end talent to be *the* team in the country, but again, how many times does that team win it? It was Duke and Arizona last year. It was Duke the year before. There really wasnt anyone like that in 15-16 but Carolina was the favorite because they had depth and returnees and then Nova beat them in the title game.

We're right there in that mix of teams with a chance to win it. We have different guys we can go to on a given night. We're going to round into a good defensive team. We have guys who can make open shots even if they aren't right now. We have depth.

So we're not perfect or supremely talented, but there's plenty there to make us as much of a contender as anyone besides Duke, and we've seen how they've handled being the most talented.

It's not even Thanksgiving yet.

Our 2012 championship team shot 595 threes or 14.87 a game. We are averaging 14.5 this season so a mere .37 less per game. That’s not the problem. It’s not even the 6-7th issue. This team will have to work on a ton of things but jacking up 30+ threes a game isn’t the answer.

This team would do well to be a .500 team if we shot 30+ threes. But hey, one single UK fan would be over the moon so let's do it.

I'll tell you what I don't see.

A team even CLOSE to being where they'll be come the FF. If this team looks like this come the SEC tournament, no, we're not going anywhere. 4 games in? I'm not worried. Yes our guard play is meh and our defense is suspect, literally every team we've ever had has had huge question marks in the beginning. This year just seems so much worse because we were all under the impression we were beyond this before and especially after the Bahamas. We'll be fine. Everyone needs to calm down.

This is mainly Cals fault for blowing this team up saying it was one of the best/easiest teams he's coached. Got expectations sky high. This makes three out of four years the product has been bad. Still not giving up on this team but they're so frustrating to watch.

Another start to the season that’s full of intense criticism from the die hard fans who know what’s “best” for this team. I’m still amazed that some of you aren’t coaching yet....Anyways, This is not the first season and it won’t be the last that Cal has a team that takes most of the year to start playing well. I understand you guys don’t like it, but if you want to recruit the best young players and have them come in and out every year then you also need to be patient with their development. If you are someone who hopes that cal will start recruiting 4 start players then yea you have an argument. I’m just tired of all the people who want to recruit one and dones and then complain when they play like **** in November. This team will not be that great until probably January, if not later. How about some of you just hibernate for winter and start watching again in conference play. And to be honest, these kids need as many fans as possible to be supportive to help with their confidence

I'm actually pretty happy with what I am seeing. And I went to the Duke game. The team seems to have shaken that off and reset. Fans should do likewise. Is UK the best team in the country this year? Not now. But they still could be by March. That's why they play 35 games and don't crown a champion in November!

Give me our Cats defensively in Feb and March and I will put them up against any college team out there that wants to jack up fifty 3’s against us.

We play our game and are able to guard the 3 by then.

If we hit free throws at a good percentage then we will win most games in March.

Our Ft’s killed us against Kansas state last year.

Between the 2 I’m more worried about our Ft shooting than jacking up 3’s. Cal is snake bitten in the tourney with free throw shooting.

And no that’s not his fault. If you play college bb you should be able to make a free throw without him teaching you that!

Its nov. 2014 won no trip to title game in nov. But 2015 would of been national champion, if nov counted lol. Are they looking champions right now. No! I think we are growing in key areas. And going backwards in others. Good thing is that happens to every team. Until u get it all working positive towards doing it for 40 mins. Then try put 2 games together playing the same way. Alot of panic over nothing lately. March is never garaunteed to the best team. Its just who can survive. Thats it. We are built to survive. But still that doesnt mean we will. Go cats. #nevergiveup

Agreed. I don't mind PJ shooting 3s if he shoots like he did the other night, though.

We just need a primary scorer to step up, and there's still many options available. Green showed he might be that guy, but it could be KJ or IQ. It could even be a big like Reid. Heck, could even be Herro once he gets his confidence up.

That's all we need, IMO. And we don't even need that until February. Everything else will come together.

No idea why people are bailing. We've been through this, every, single, year.
