I guess they were too expensive...

Hell. I tried to sit in the stands through a tornado warning during a non conference game in the middle of the Croom Error. The damn ushers had to escort me out.

If the entire country took the virus seriously from the start we wouldn't be having this discussion

Don’t put too much stock into attendance this year. Less interest in tickets does not necessarily mean less interest in the program, not while a pandemic is going on. We opted out of tickets after having season tickets for 15 years but I’m still equally excited as always to watch the Dogs on TV for 10 Saturday’s this fall.

That said, I’m very concerned about attendance getting back to the level it was once this is all over. We have about 35-40K fans who won’t be going to games this year that will have to make a decision next year about whether they missed having tickets or not. And it may be a real challenge to get all of those fans back immediately. That’s not just an MSU specific problem though.

^^^^This^^^^ plus you know Cohen will be trying to re-coup lost revenue from this year without being creative.

Based on what I'm seeing in all other aspects of life around me, if we don't sell out when we're at 20% of capacity, there's a problem. People aren't isolating to anywhere near that level. I do think we'll sell out, including the 200 student tickets. Mississippi didn't sell out to season ticket holders though and are selling individual game tickets to the Florida game this weekend.

I mean you're not wrong if a lot of people on SPS can't admit the completely obvious fact that covid is going to put a dent in ticket sales this year.

If ticket revenue is down 75% this year

He’ll just raise ticket prices by 30% next year and start requiring purchasing a pass to tailgate on campus.

Meh... If Leach is putting a winning product on the field, the stands will be filled at capacity. This year's abnormalities won't change that. To your point, it may not be all the same fans, but there will be fans.

$20 per game is kind of expensive, considering it seems like I paid $10-$15 for an entire season back ~20 years ago. I just assumed they were basically still free for students.

I seem to remember paying like $20 for the season when I was there. We had better seats then too.

I don't think everyone that opted out did it just because they didn't want to be in a stadium with other people. There are a lot of people struggling financially this year. Spending a few grand on football tickets when you may have missed 1-2 months worth of work just doesn't make sense.

The problem is large student groups can’t sit together and can’t organize seats near each other. They are choosing to watch together off-campus. Only a pair of students can sit together per the student ticket rules.

Can't blame them for this. I'd rather watch at a bar or house with 20-30 people getting rowdy than in a group of ten in a quarter full stadium. The only advantage that being in the stadium offers is the times during big games where the whole crowd is into it. Not sure that's going to be recreated with a quarter full stadium, and if it's not, being there in a group of ten just isn't that appealing.

A lot of of people like to tailgate and that is just as important or more than getting into the game. Not being able to tailgate is hurting the sell of tickets.

Agree with both you and kired. A lot of people are opting out for various reasons. But there shouldn't be an 80% opt out rate unless there's real problems. Again, I don't think we are having any problem selling out at 20%. Mississippi is and I think that says a lot about the apathy of their fanbase right now.
