Mmmmm no. Tom nearly died that last year before that last bowl game. He was advised by his cardiologists to quit before he finally did. There was no way he could have kept up the pace. It would have killed him.

I guess a 'splash hire' would also include Jordan Larson? That choice would make me nervous. Obviously a great player, big name in the VB world, and a Nebraskan, I just have no clue if she's got 'it' as a coach.

I still think he regrets retiring when he did. He says main reason was that he had promised Solich. He had already delayed retirement a year when Wistrom & Peters came back for their senior year.

Too bad he couldn't have taken more of a CEO role, given up the OC duties, reduced his work load, and stayed longer, but he's not wired that way.

It hasn’t been 30+ years but he was extremely fortunate to survive that go round. A family member was one of his Dr.s. Tom’s self discipline and compliance with medical advice is why he has lived as long as he has. Virtually no other human could stick to the extremely strict diet plan that he practices. He once joked “I don’t eat anything that tastes good”.

I can PROMISE you he did not change one thing about his life...dude never drank, never had fun, never did anything "wrong"...

Hogs are quick and scrappy but they missed their window when they couldn’t close out Set #1. Looking like a sweep now.

Yep, NBC does that in Olympic volleyball matches and people have complained about it for years, including me o_O
