When did he say that was a requirement ?
When did Mitch say that? He didn’t. However, there are better options (and seemingly he has offered one of them — a good sign). However, Andy Katz tweet suggests the two things I mentioned may be a factor in Mitch’s preference for Drew.

Again, I said if.

I don't have access to HOB but I saw a screen shot of it on a response to Justin Rowlands twitter. I guess he removed it

Nvm, I found it. Jeff Drummond posted it.

UK boosters/money people have backed the funding. Gonna start with an 11 million a year offer over 5-7 years for Hurley. No mention if that deal applies to Donovan.

If this is actually true and he declines, YIKES

It's a good start, but he's already making about 7, 7.5mil as of now with incentives. You know Uconn is going to get pretty close to our match, if not outright. I think to get Hurley, we'd need to offer 12 maybe even 13mil.

Based on what?
Adam Zagoria saying Mitch and he are in active talks as well as just common knowledge. I hope people are prepared for this and won’t be let down. It’s a step up from Cal. I truly don’t wanna see fans get their hopes up with Hurley and Billy D.

If his primary coach selection criteria includes “we are friends” or “we have the same religion” then yeah, he should lose his job immediately.

You actually think Mitch was like “okay so Drew and I are the same religion- I’ll offer him”.

But also Mitch and UK have reportedly offered Hurley $11 million for 5-7 years

Drew may very well end up the coach though. If he accepts. Which it could be much worse. I think he’ll do well here.

It’s a lateral move at best. Not the guy worth running cal out for.

They’ve had a bromance for years. Even if its not the case, it’s bad optics and gives off the impression of another half a$$ coaching search and hire. Youd have to really question how hard he went after anyone else.

Now, if he throws the kitchen sink at the top guys and can’t land one, then it is what it is.

Any link to this earth shaking news?

🤣
Search Jeff Drummond's Twitter feed. He also posted the same thing on the HOB, of course he did that and only an hour later he posted it for free on Twitter, which means I'm not going to be on the free trial for HOB much longer if that's how they are going to roll...

No way in hell we are offering Drew a 77 million dollar contract, when he's not a sure thing.
We should have countered Arkansas’ offer and kept Coach Cal for a few more years, if we offer $11m/yr to anyone other than Hurley.

I think for Hurley to consider it the offer would have to be more like $100 million for 7 years with maybe a 1st year of $11-12 million.

You watch, Drew was the first call, and if he said no, Mitch would move UP the list to better coaching candidates like Hurley. But we may never see an offer or response from Hurley if Mitch's buddy Drew says he'll take it.
You got it.

Any offer to Hurley is just to cause UConn to bleed out resources they don't have. Hobble a national contender so the REAL new Kentucky coach has a drained UConn to deal with.
This is also a silly comment.

No reason in the world to think Hurley wouldn’t come to Kentucky

The point is Mitch is in talks with Drew. At least according to the best source at the moment. It’s also clearly who Mitch wants.

I’d bet $100 on Drew vs the field

Offering a blank check to Hurley then having Drew as the backup (for way less $$$) is the right move by Mitch.

I'm fine with Drew. We need someone that can get here immediately and start focusing on the roster. I'm wary of Donovan for that reason alone.
Agreed, but I think it should have been Hurley first, get a definitive NO, then go Drew. If he went Drew first to save $$ and to help his buddy, with a plan to go UP to Hurley if he said no, that's just asinine and very, very Mitch-conservative typical (not politically conservative, mind you...).
