Biggest political landslide in Hungary's history since the fall of Communism.
I went to Budapest in 1988 when it was still behind the Iron Curtain. Imagine going from far left authoritarianism to democracy to far right authoritarianism back to democracy in such a short span of time.

This guy is right of center and yall are celebrating like Kamala won. This isn’t a win for the left. His immigration policy is stricter than anything seen in the US. You guys are dorks lol. Does this sound like a liberal? IMMIGRATION STRICTER THAN ORBAN. That’s the number one issue between the right and left, and yall are getting destroyed by your open border bullshyt. Wants to “Scrap the guest workers” and a Hungarian nationalist - yall think that’s a leftist hahaha.

Immigration: Hard line — supports strict controls (similar to or tougher than Orbán in places). He’s promised to scrap the guest-worker scheme and keep regulated, controlled migration. He’s also a cultural traditionalist who emphasizes Hungarian national heritage.

Look at these super liberal positions, the OP would definitely not support this guy hahahaha. His top priority was corruption - like Minnesota and California corruption - but to read the celebratory thread you’d think they’re electing Mamdani. Clowns. He wants to recover fraudulent funds and imprison the perpetrators, yall wanna make them citizens and put them on entitlements. Here’s some more “liberal” positions of his.

Anti-corruption / rule of law / “regime change”: Top priority. He vows to dismantle cronyism, recover misused public money, cut unjustified state spending, and restore democratic checks and balances. This is explicitly aimed at unlocking the ~€18-20 billion in frozen EU funds.

NOTE: where does tax payer funded tranny surgeries for inmates fall under “cutting unjustified state spending”? I’m curious!

• Economy & public services: Use recovered EU money + anti-corruption savings to fix healthcare, roads, schools, transport, and boost wages/small businesses. Supports free-market economics but with national minimum standards on energy and welfare. Wants to kick-start growth after years of stagnation and inflation.

This ain’t the win you think it is playa. Magyar isn’t a leftist — he’s a right-of-center reformer who’s pro-European and anti-corruption.

Center right in Europe is pretty much the American democrat party. Also, it’s a victor for Hungary since they ousted their corrupt pro-kremlin leader
IMMIGRATION STRICTER THAN ORBAN. He wouldn’t be running as a democrat here. Yall wouldn’t allow it. Guess what else he doesn’t cave on? Trans nonsense. He’s avoided firm stances on some culture-war issues (e.g., LGBTQ+ policies) to not alienate voters. Sounds super American democrat lol. A regular old mamdani. What a joke. Keep telling yourself that.🤡

Even AI disagrees with you. Just give it up and take your medicine. The fact is yall just started celebrating bc it was the opposite of who Trump supported. You had no idea what his policies or positions are, classic cult behavior per usual. It’s hilarious. Damn AI says Orban style toughness on border and culture. I’d vote for him in two seconds. I’m as far from a liberal as humanly possible. How’s it feel to be cheering on a nationalist?

In short: He’s offering Orbán-style toughness on borders and culture + a big pro-EU, anti-graft reboot on governance and money.

Dude, what makes you think we didn't already know this? Yes, its well known that he's center-right but he was to the left of the illiberal govt. Orban put in place, anti-Putin and not Donnie's ***** and he won't be criminalizing Pride parades.

But thank you for the enlightenment! 😅

Yes we did know, some of us anyway and it's hilarious that you think you're schooling us. If it didn't matter, why did Donnie and JD spend so much time trying to manipulate the election, including offering to support Hungary financially if they voted for Orban?

It’s pretty obvious yall didn’t know this. Perhaps you were vaguely aware, but the majority in here didn’t know. It’s obvious because those are pretty “republican” values and yall are cheering this guy on like he’s the next Mamdani, you guys are going on like Walz won. This dudes nothing like any of you or any one you support or vote for. Strict borders and immigration, imprison fraudsters, nationalist, neutral on LGBT. Hell I guarantee the OP didn’t know any of that. That’s a person that I vote for. Not you or any of these weirdos.

Don’t know and don’t care, I’m American not Hungarian dumbass. I wouldn’t be caught dead in this circle jerk celebrating elections in little countries that have zero relevance on anything in my life. Just call it what it is - TDS. It’s right there in your post.

Yes, I did know this. You're not shedding any light and no one thought he was Mamdani or even liberal for that matter. But the Kremlin no longer has an EU obstructionist now that Orban is gone and that's important.

I hate to tell you but the EU has a severe case of TDS so this is a win for them I promise you. And Trump and co. have been studying how Hungary suppressed the media and gerrymandered the votes to corruptly stay in power and even invited Orban to speak at CPAC. This is definitely a loss for Donnie and authoritarianism.

Omg the more I look the worse it gets for you. No troops or support to Ukraine! Yall would’ve ran him out of congress with your Ukraine flags lololol. This is too funny. The world’s first Anti Ukraine, anti immigration, anti LGBT nonsense liberal hahahah.

Magyar. From his campaign:

• He wants to keep buying Russian energy in the short term (pragmatic dependence).

• No Hungarian troops to Ukraine.

• No rushing Ukraine into the EU.

Right lol. Sounds like to me the EU is way more fed up with immigrants, specifically Muslim immigration, than TDS pal. That might be why they just elected a person with STRICTER immigration policy than the ultra right MAGA they just had. Wake up dork.

Dude, you're not magasplaining sh*t to me. Orban was against even supporting the war in Ukraine, Magyar is not. Quit pretending like you're an expert because you googled some stuff this morning.

"The American right is fascinated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán because he is seen as a successful model for using state power to win culture wars, weaken liberal institutions, and maintain long-term right-wing populist rule. His "illiberal democracy" is viewed as a blueprint for reversing progressive policies, controlling media, and installing conservative leadership in education"

I think everyone is missing the point here. The left didn't turn their propaganda machine on to celebrate the new Hungarian Prime Minister's win because they expect Magyar to have their exact policies or anything. It's a different context/culture/country.

However, Orban was pretty outspoken about being aligned with Trump, and Vance stumped for Orban to win. The one thing the left doesn't want (and most of the world clearly doesn't want) is the Maga ideology to go Global. And it won't, and this is another example of Maga/Trump being incredibly unpopular on the world stage.

This is a win for the world and a loss for the Maga ideology, which is why the left is celebrating, even if some of Magyar's policies seem similar to Maga's and aren't the 'American leftist ideal'- because clearly it would have been way worse if Orban won.

Counter point. If there was some sort of compromising information out there that the Russian’s have used, do you think it impossible Mossad has the same information somehow?

(I don’t think he’s compromised, I just think he’s easily manipulated by flatterers)

If what I’ve posted about Magyars policies is accurate, and I believe it is. He’d absolutely get my vote and anyone that I know. He would not get yours. Why are you celebrating? It’s like you guys only think that MAGA disagrees with you - that’s not the case bc I disagree with almost all your points - I’m not MAGA. Magyar is way closer to a conservative candidate than a liberal. Period. There’s no debating that. Maybe Trump liked the other guy, idgaf and like most normal people idk, but I do know policies - and these are NOT liberal policies this guy won on. Get over it.

Orban said the U.S. was the epicenter of the biggest western political realignment in the last 100 years, and that Hungary was its forward base of operations in Europe.

Trump and Vance wanted Orban to win.

This is a huge defeat specifically for Maga, so it's inherently good.
