That was most certainly not the case here. I assure you that he could have named his destination. These days, I really do question “finished what I started.” announcements because it’s too easy to understand it as nobody would take me in the TP so I’ll just stay where I’m at.
Jans is literally the most successful Mississippi State basketball coach in history.Sure hope Jan’s can get some players to help him otherwise it’ll be another wasted year of his talent. Unfortunately Jan’s history shows he can’t.
How many NCAA wins does he have?Jans is literally the most successful Mississippi State basketball coach in history.
I get we sucked this year. He missed badly in the portal. But damn, y'all are acting like he's Rick Ray.
Who cares? He made the tournament. He owns over 20% of our appearances. Let's not act like we are this basketball mecca. How many NCAA wins does he have?
It’s easier than ever to just make it. But McCarthy, Williams & Stans were all better coaches. All have an SEC championship & NCAA wins (although McCrsthy was a regional consolation final ot was part of the tournament).Who cares? He made the tournament. He owns over 20% of our appearances. Let's not act like we are this basketball mecca.
If he sucks next year, he deserves to be fired.
2 out of 3 ncaa berths. You’re probably worse than 85bearsGet that man an NIT berth!!
They also coached in a whole different era than today in just the SEC alone. It’s easier than ever to just make it. But McCarthy, Williams & Stans were all better coaches. All have an SEC championship & NCAA wins (although McCrsthy was a regional consolation final ot was part of the tournament).
Josh is talented enough to play for anyone. These days, I really do question “finished what I started.” announcements because it’s too easy to understand it as nobody would take me in the TP so I’ll just stay where I’m at.
I would argue that the brand value of Josh playing for Miss State is greater than winning games and going to the NCAAT. Unless we got to the Sweet 16 or farther, which is about a 10x roster investment.Josh is talented enough to play for anyone.

Come on pat. Some of your takes can be puzzling. It’s easier than ever to just make it. But McCarthy, Williams & Stans were all better coaches. All have an SEC championship & NCAA wins (although McCrsthy was a regional consolation final ot was part of the tournament).
Literally no one is acting like he’s Rick Ray. But he’s nowhere near the most successful coach we’ve had.Jans is literally the most successful Mississippi State basketball coach in history.
I get we sucked this year. He missed badly in the portal. But damn, y'all are acting like he's Rick Ray.
Would be interesting to see what teams were interested in him.Sure hope Jan’s can get some players to help him otherwise it’ll be another wasted year of his talent. Unfortunately Jan’s history shows he can’t.
His recruiting has definitely been on par with Rick Ray. Possibly worseJans is literally the most successful Mississippi State basketball coach in history.

It’s been sub optimal. But you need to revisit the Rick Ray years if you think it’s even close to that disaster. Even this year was better than anything Rick Ray ever did.His recruiting has definitely been on par with Rick Ray. Possibly worse
I want to believe that he’s a good coach, and the things he did with those first two rosters has bought him some time. However, the combination of zero postseason wins in 4 seasons and his abysmal recruiting isn’t helping his case. Nor is the Top 20 salary that he’s being paid
Final Fours are our standard...Who cares? He made the tournament. He owns over 20% of our appearances. Let's not act like we are this basketball mecca.
If he sucks next year, he deserves to be fired.
I will say that he seems to have pivoted to a more offensive style to suit Hubbard. He’s a defensive guy and should be building around that but instead he’s doing the opposite. His recruiting has definitely been on par with Rick Ray. Possibly worse

The problem is all the "offensive" players we recruit turn into bricklayers under Jans.I will say that he seems to have pivoted to a more offensive style to suit Hubbard. He’s a defensive guy and should be building around that but instead he’s doing the opposite.
On the other hand why would you not build around Hubbard?
Either way, it may or may not cost him his job. I know, duh, shocking information. But he will land on his feet somewhere and be good again. Makes me wonder about MSU in general.
You aren’t wrongThe problem is all the "offensive" players we recruit turn into bricklayers under Jans.
Rick Ray wasn’t the answer but in 2014-2015, we were 13-19 and 6-12 in the conference and he was canned. It’s been sub optimal. But you need to revisit the Rick Ray years if you think it’s even close to that disaster. Even this year was better than anything Rick Ray ever did.
I have to say, I’m not optimistic. We need a major portal haul if we want to even be competitive. If we look as bad as we did last year at the Christmas break, he needs to be gone and brooks and Padgett need to follow him out the door.
If we’re comparing recruiting stars, sure. I agree that it’s not even close, but here are the freshmen that Jans has signed over the last 4 years. The book’s not closed for a couple of the younger guys, but as of today…. there’s just one name on the list that has done anything for us. Then, of course we all know about all of the whiffs in the portalIt’s been sub optimal. But you need to revisit the Rick Ray years if you think it’s even close to that disaster. Even this year was better than anything Rick Ray ever did.
This is unfortunately the truth.Who cares? He made the tournament. He owns over 20% of our appearances. Let's not act like we are this basketball mecca.

The one time McCarthy was allowed to go to the tournament he lost to the eventual national champion in the first round. That team was arguably the least of the four he had that won the SEC. Had we been allowed to go all four of those years who knows what might have happened. That was the era where modern college sports blue blood‘s blood was turning blue. Another thing we can blame on what was an essentially an Ole Miss dominated state government back then. It’s easier than ever to just make it. But McCarthy, Williams & Stans were all better coaches. All have an SEC championship & NCAA wins (although McCrsthy was a regional consolation final ot was part of the tournament).
Maybe. He could score for anyone for sure.Josh is talented enough to play for anyone.
Not much. Not everybody was interested I'm sure. Hubbard can shoot. Well, usually. What else ?
Some of y'all are losing sight of just how BAD those Ray teams were. His recruiting has definitely been on par with Rick Ray. Possibly worse

Man. That’s bad.If we’re comparing recruiting stars, sure. I agree that it’s not even close, but here are the freshmen that Jans has signed over the last 4 years. Jans got away from what he is catering to Hubbard. Richard Williams would never have done that. Watching Williams break the colt that was Donte Jones may be my best overall memory as a state fan. That turned that team into what it was down the stretch. It's certainly the best coaching job for an individual player I've ever seen at MSU in any sport.I will say that he seems to have pivoted to a more offensive style to suit Hubbard. He’s a defensive guy and should be building around that but instead he’s doing the opposite.

Also who was actually interested in hiring our "most successful coach ever".Would be interesting to see what teams were interested in him.
