No charging call. If defender makes contact with or fouls driver to basket, it will always be against the defender. You should not be allowed to play defense at the last possible second by cutting in front of a player driving to the basket. This does not eliminate the concept of "help-side" defense; however, the same is true for them as well...if the shift over to pick up a driver and make contact on the shot or drive, it's a foul on the defense. There are way too many missed calls that result in charging calls against the offensive player who has beaten already one man put cannot beat two or three, or who makes contact with a defender who is still sliding laterally and still gets called for the charging foul. Refs cannot get this thing correct--it happens too fast and the semi-circle arc has done little to correct questionable or wrong calls. It’s obvious that interest in the sport has significantly dwindled in the last decade, especially the last 5-6 years.
What would you do to fix it? Some obvious ones for me are:
-Two and Done
-More big time Home and Home series (Duke vs UK)d still
-Start the season in January to avoid College football/NFL season.
What say you?
Go to NBA Timing Format. Four quarters 12 minutes each. More kids get a chance to play. Better bang for your entertainment buck. More Rupp Arena ice cream sales. Football games do not last too long for me; basketball games are too short...two hours and you're out the door. They are over too fast.
Add a sixth foul before fouling out.
Basketball season begins 1 December.
