And he let LEster run the offense because KF didnt call the play that resulted in the 1st qtr INT on 1st and goal. KF runs a great program and his only negatives are some conservatism and game decisionsThe old fossil

There are many things I like about Kirk, but putting his son in charge of the Iowa offense is not one of them. The old fossil

yeah one year ago when most people saw the schedule 6-6 was thought likely even with a improved team9-4. Pretty solid Iowa season.
They exceeded my expectations for the season. I have no complaints. There are many things I like about Kirk, but putting his son in charge of the Iowa offense is not one of them.
IMO, this was Kirk’s best coaching year of his career. The talent was not there on defense compared to years past and there were untimely injuries throughout the year on offense (i.e. RVZ). Iowa also played its toughest schedule in years and Kirk had them competitive in every game.
9-4 with the schedule Iowa played is impressive. Very impressive.

If that’s your expectation, OK.9-4. Pretty solid Iowa season.

This was a good year of coaching. While many of you are swooning over KF today with this win, never forget it was Kirk Ferentz who hired his unqualified son and moved him up the ladder even as Brian continued to fail. It took a NEW AD to FORCE Kirk to get rid of him and hire an OC who finally is turning that part of the program around. Kirk has been OK for Iowa. But the BF debacle will always be a stain on his legacy. There are many things I like about Kirk, but putting his son in charge of the Iowa offense is not one of them.

I agree. And I still have a little lingering resentment because of it.This was a good year of coaching. Lol
Most wins in big 10 historyI agree. And I still have a little lingering resentment because of it.
Allowing Brian to run the offense and quarterback room into the ground for multiple years is the textbook definition of nepotism and I will hold that against Kirk and Gary Barta forever. At this level of football, it’s inexcusable.
I mean also the Big Ten record holder for losses. But today was a good game, just wish it would have counted for something.Lol

Look at the Big picture. You will enjoy life more.
This BF part is true, but was a blip on his overall career at Iowa. He can never take that part back, but thankfully we have moved on to bigger and better hopefully. This was a good year of coaching. Was it an exhibition game? Someone told me was a bowl game against a ranked team.I mean also the Big Ten record holder for losses. But today was a good game, just wish it would have counted for something.
LOVE KF. The one. The only. Best all around coach in college football hands down. No I'm not related. The old fossil

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Not that I want him to leave, but finishing the season with a bowl win over a quality opponent and a (likely) Top-20 ranking? I sure wouldn’t blame him.Good win. Maybe he should step out on a high note.
Why not leave on a high note? You know, I was thinking the same thing. Not that I want him to leave, but finishing the season with a bowl win over a quality opponent and a (likely) Top-20 ranking? I sure wouldn’t blame him.
KF is healthy and loves his job. He's good at his job. If none of those things change he will probably coach through his contract. Who knows, he may get another year or two tacked on to the end.You know, I was thinking the same thing. And Babe Ruth had the record for most strike outs. It's irrelevant.I mean also the Big Ten record holder for losses.

While some truth there, its NEVER hard to spot the "glass is have empty" guys. I guarantee if in the next three or four years we make the playoff and make a run at a title there would sure as heck be posters on this forum saying "yea but back a decade ago when Kirk hired Brian", yada, yada, yada, yada. As for his legacy, thats nonsense. In twenty years or so when most of us are gone his "legacy" will say winningest coach in B1G history and probably HOF coach, and won't have a damn thing to do with Brian. This was a good year of coaching. You're not very good with nuance, OK.If that’s your expectation, OK.
It wasn't intended as a compliment. Glad you found your daily thing to get triggered about."Pretty solid" season anywhere that's not a blue blood school, which is pretty much all of the teams in the Power 5. Nice backhanded compliment though.
You didn't mention that his son in law Tyler Barnes is director of recruiting.I agree. And I still have a little lingering resentment because of it.

You mean the guy who went five years without a legit D-1 QB? You mean the guy who hired his son as OC and QB coach and kept him there for years despite his ineptitude, forcing the AD to finally fire him? You mean THAT guy?The old fossil

Kirk is human and makes mistakes, I venture to say he under stands that moving Brian to that position was a huge mistake . I’m sure his plan was for Brian to replace him as the head and keep Iowa football in the Ferentz hands for years to come…..Can’t say I blame him but if you go back in history in any college sport where has this worked, Bowden, Holtz, Beemer, ??This was a good year of coaching. Absolutely not-;very few opted out- We beat a good team that was motivated to beat a good big ten team. Was it an exhibition game? Someone told me was a bowl game against a ranked team.
Who by the way is doing a great job! If you ran a business would you hire a trusted family member? I would. You didn't mention that his son in law Tyler Barnes is director of recruiting.

And? He's done a pretty damn good job at it and in the portal given what Iowa is most likely working with. This guilt by association thing is bull and has nothing to do with Brian. And for the record Barnes was doing that job at another school before he came back to Iowa unlike Brian who had never been an OC.You didn't mention that his son in law Tyler Barnes is director of recruiting.
