Even seen Sunset Boulevard or Spinal Tap? The has-beens never quite figure out that they’re irrelevant and the world has passed them by until it’s too late.

September 2, 1995 was precisely that date.

So you can repeat the same tripe all you want. Doesn’t change the facts. It just makes you sound more and more like Norma Desmond:

“I’m a star! The greatest star of them all!”

“I am big! It’s the pictures that got small.”

The entire ND fanbase summed up in two quotes.

Not sure you could demonstrate your inferiority complex any harder if you tried.

Keep going though, I’m really enjoying you humiliating yourself publicly…

I'm embarrassed for you that you're "honestly" embarrassed.

Can one be dishonestly embarrassed too?

Not sure you could demonstrate 30 years of futility any better if you tried. So we’re even. It’s just that I tend to pity helpless creatures like stray puppies and ND fans wandering around lost and aimless. Every Norma Desmond needs a Max, somebody to coddle her and protect her from learning the truth of how the world has changed. I’m your anti-Max.

It’s not that we hate you. It’s not that we feel inferior. It’s that we know what you don’t - that ND officially became irrelevant in 1995.

I’m glad I brought up Norma Desmond because that movie was made in the ND heyday you still pretend you’re in.

I have lost whatever respect I had for Northwestern after reading this. I expected it when we played Miami. I expected it when we played SEC schools. Hell, I wasn't surprised when I saw what VaTech fans were saying even though I didn't expect it. But for Northwestern to be worse than Michigan or USC really surprised me.

Maybe the ND fanbase's pompous arrogance and sense of entitlement brings that out in other fan bases.

I have to 1st hand experience in the department(s) in question, and know 1st has that you’re wrong.

Not only that, but you’ve made claims that are verifiably incorrect, further exposing your ignorance.

Ignorance and unsupported claims are only made by very very foolish people.

Unhinged.

Now you’re just plain lying. Making it up as you go. Oblivious to how shameless the sum of your posts has become. Look ... I got no dog in this issue. ND’s academic standards are their own business. I could not care less.
More accurately, that same poster claimed that all of these knowledgeable former ND employees had stated what he claimed… Not that it was some personal, private “information” which he couldn’t corroborate in anyway and therefore has no value whatsoever.

Once he was called out for that (and rightfully so) he switched to acting like a petulant little girl. Which only exposed him further.

As I’ve said throughout this thread, I didn’t come to fight, but I’m not going to back down to a petulant little child who doesn’t have any facts in the first place.

And as I have again already said, if @GOUNUII has any actual support for his baseless claims, he should provide them in a link. Otherwise, he should understand that he’ll only ever be laughed at. And rightfully so.

Dude ... this has gotten extremely weird. Moreso by the moment. Get a grip on yourself. Weird is not a good place to be. ND has some very fine student athletes on its football team. And it's no sin to admit players with Ds on their HS transcripts, AND/OR core GPAs just on the sunny side of 2.5 AND/OR sub 20 ACTs AND/OR less than the minimum core HS classes required of everybody else applying for admission. ND can do whatever it wants in that regard. It inevitably leads to its own set of problems as we have seen with the suspensions and transfers and NCAA sanctions, but that's ND's call to make.

Root for your team and defend its honor. But when you insist that anything short of linked corroboration makes me all the nasty things you have posted, you have gone deep into the world of weird. Hope you pull out of it soon.

Except that Notre Dame literally does not do the things that you are claiming that here and claiming without any support whatsoever.

But yes, in today’s day and age, who needs corroboration when making provocative and baseless claims (which are total BS anyways).

This is why I’ve used actual facts to call you out and laugh at you.

Our choice to do our own thing, does seem to bring the inferiority complex out of other fan bases.

I find that to be especially odd, since they could choose to do their own thing too.

Hard to say if it’s hate stemming from ignorance and fear, or just plain old jealousy.

It could be a combination of both I suppose.

There once was a time in this business when I had the eyes of the whole world! But that wasn’t good enough for them... oh No! They had to have the ears of the whole world too. So they opened their big mouths and out came talk. Talk, talk!

By the way, we don't even consider N* D* to be even legitimate rivals. You need to beat us at least once in the past 23 years to be even on the radar. As far as we are considered, LOLinois are more legitimate threats to beat us than N* D*.

 Don't worry ND doesn't consider you a rival either. That would be USC, Stanford, and Michigan. You know, teams we actually play. By the way congrats on beating a 4 and 8 Notre Dame team in OT 3 years ago. Doesnt change the 37-9 lead Notre Dame has in the series. Love this "haven't beat us in 23 years" when we've played you one time since. Notre Dame fans don't care about this game at all, as far as we're concerned it's just a stop gap game on the way to the final 4.

Friedman hasn't been out of line in this thread at all he's just answered the questions that you guys were asking him as honestly and thoughtfully as he could. No disrespect to Northwestern I'm sure a lot of your fans are great but there are a few in this thread that aren't helping that view.

Either way good luck on Saturday, you're going to need it.

Pompous, certainly. But you forgot baseless and unwarranted. It just amazes me how much the blather of ND fans seems straight out of Norma Desmond’s mouth:

Norma Desmond: Those idiot producers. Those imbeciles. Haven't they got any eyes? Have they forgotten what a star looks like? I'll show them! I'll be up there again, so help me!

Norma Desmond: I’m going to be bigger than peanut butter!!

Joe Gillis: Oh, wake up, Norma, you'd be killing yourself to an empty house. The audience left twenty years ago. Now, face it.

Norma Desmond: That's a lie! They still want me!

Norma Desmond: Without me, there wouldn't be any Paramount studio!

Can’t get one sentence out without the arrogance pouring out, can you?

Have you not yet figured it out, Norma?

Nobody but you cares what you think. You’re all stuck in the leather helmet era titles... Totally irrelevant.

Lordy, I love you people. You’re so utterly and completely clueless. Brainwashed zombies, all of you.

Do yourself a favor. Next time you meet somebody (from outside your cult), hit the stopwatch on your iPhone and count how many seconds into the conversation it takes you to weasel the fact that you went to ND awkardly and unnecessarily into the conversation. I once met somebody that did it in 8. That’s hard to top but I have faith in you...

Relax, my friend. I understand the urge you have to defend your alma

Good post. Thanks for bringing this back to sanity.

I balked for years against the present playoff system. I loved the old bowl system. Now that we have the playoffs, I find I kind of like it. Though many of my objections came to pass, I still like it. I didn't realize what it would be like to have it.

In the same way, ND fans have no idea what it is like to be in a conference so they really don't know if they would like it better. I contend many, even most, would. My ND son is also a big Northwestern fan which is why he is more willing to see my argument for a conference. He understands the advantages because he's invested in a team in a conference. He kind of likes it.

On a side note, you're the first ND fan I have heard refer to Stanford as a rival. Hmmmm... I think ND could dump them with litttle pain.

And yes, I know all about Fielding Yost at Michigan. I love history and it's an interesting story, but he was a jerk from years ago. Just think how much fun it would be hammering Michigan every year in the Big 10. That would teach the ghost of Fielding.:)

I find myself coming around to the playoff system, for sure. It maintains broader interest in the sport deeper into the season There are about a dozen teams right now with a reasonable shot at the playoffs and, ergo, the title. Prior to the playoff era, it would have been five or six.

Concerning a conference, I grew up around SEC and ACC friends and family and, obviously, went to NU as well and follow and like the program. Conferences are fine, but I think they are constraining in a way, as well. I also think a lot of the recent conference expansion was ill-planned and will be an anchor on some of the bigger programs, especially with new television models coming on board.

Concerning Stanford, I wouldn't have considered them a big rival until Harbaugh came on board, but they've been both a pain in the butt and damn good for going on a decade now, and Shaw has owned Kelly. There have been some terrific games with national implications in the last decade. We've played them annually for nearly thirty years, so it's getting into that territory. Shaw is a good villain as well.

ND-USC is one of college football's greatest rivalries, but again with the Stanford?!? Since when did ND consider Stanford a rival? That game doesn't by any definition define a rivalry. By the way, we hammered Stanford the last time they came to Evanston. They came in all cocky and regretted it. Hmmmmmm... sounds familiar.

So Mr. Knowitall. Prove yourself. While I am certain you can’t do it, it will be fun to watch.

1. What specifically are the “significantly elevated” academic standards at ND you speak of? Given your intimate knowledge of the situation please give us specifics.

2. What is your source of knowledge regarding NU’s -Stanford’s - Vandy’s and Duke’s football admission requirements. Again, you claim ND falls in this group so you can surely tell us what the SAT/ACT/GPA parameters for all these schools are.

3. I’ve given you my firsthand sources regarding ND’s actual admission practices. Not too much for you to do the same. What are they?

4. Spare us the tutoring nonsense. When and under what circumstances have you seen actual transcripts of prospects denied admission to ND?

5. Are you aware that the minimum core curriculum requirements for admission to ND are waivesble, and have been waived, but only for football players?

GOUNUII

It's common knowledge that Tony Rice failed to meet Prop 48 requirements, and Chris Zorich was another Irish player that had no business getting admitted.

The Irish do have higher requirements than the NCAA minimums, but they are nowhere in the same ball park as Stanford or Northwestern and it's ludicrous that anyone would believe that (neither are Duke's or Vanderbilt's for that matter). That shouldn't be surprising, because the general admission bars for the regular student bodies are also not exactly the same either.
