Anyone that hasn’t turned down IU yet?
God I hope not.Waiting on the call from Mitch.
Unfortunately...This will be unpopular here, but if we lose Cal anytime soon, this is similar to what our search will resemble. Getting rejected by the top choices, then getting rejected by someone who has never been past a sw 16, and only made it to 1 of those (Holtman), then being embarrassed and having to settle for a Chris Beard type coach. Not to mention the entire roster will leave with him.
And just like IU fans some UK fans will actually think Brad Stevens will come running to Lexington. This will be unpopular here, but if we lose Cal anytime soon, this is similar to what our search will resemble. Fife has never held a head coaching jobMaybe IU should target the Joel Justus of Michigan State's program, Dane Fife! There is about to be a mass exodus of Spartans hitting the portal and Fife is an IU alum/grad when they last played for National Championship. Or do they want to avoid the "Izzo tree" after it gifted them Creepy Tom Crean?

How sweet it is.Indiana basketball and Tennessee football coaching hires...ooof.
Smartest post I’ve seen on here all day. This will be unpopular here, but if we lose Cal anytime soon, this is similar to what our search will resemble. Or reigning NBA championship coach Luke Walton. They really think he would leave the Lakers, Lebron and AD, plus LA to come to UK.And just like IU fans some UK fans will actually think Brad Stevens will come running to Lexington.![]()
Having to "settle" for a Beard or Holtmann wouldn't be terrible. Both are young and hungry to win. Either would crawl to Lexington for the job. This will be unpopular here, but if we lose Cal anytime soon, this is similar to what our search will resemble. Damn...I hope that doesn't happen. We could end up going 9-16 or something...This will be unpopular here, but if we lose Cal anytime soon, this is similar to what our search will resemble. Yeah, but would the 11 years before that include FOUR FINAL FOURS, A CHAMPIONSHIP, SEVEN ELITE EIGHTS and one other season in which the team won the SEC by three games, was poised for a deep run but the tourney wasn't played -- along with a clear lead over everyone in NCAA tournament wins?Damn...I hope that doesn't happen. We could end up going 9-16 or something...

But this is KENTUCKY we don’t settle for anyone. It better be a home run hire or else!Having to "settle" for a Beard or Holtmann wouldn't be terrible. Both are young and hungry to win. Either would crawl to Lexington for the job.
Even if Calipari stays, next year's team will be marginal as well.
Yea, once in a century plagues happen so often, and Cal has such a history of losing records and all. It's definitely worth staying eaten up over.Damn...I hope that doesn't happen. We could end up going 9-16 or something...
If we have to settle for that type, or really have to settle at all, we might as well just revoke our blueblood status ourselves. Either of those hires at this point in their careers is embarrassing for a program like UK.Having to "settle" for a Beard or Holtmann wouldn't be terrible. Both are young and hungry to win. Joe Hall was a assistant under Rupp. Rick Pitino was a middle of the pack NBA coach. Tubby Smith had never been past the Sweet 16. No one would have called those guys "home run hires" at the time they took the job.But this is KENTUCKY we don’t settle for anyone. It better be a home run hire or else!
So, Joe Hall, Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith were "embarrassments to the program when we hired them?If we have to settle for that type, or really have to settle at all, we might as well just revoke our blueblood status ourselves. You show up this week on a brand new account and make a post comparing a coaching search for our program like it would be equivalent to Indiana’s.....interesting.This will be unpopular here, but if we lose Cal anytime soon, this is similar to what our search will resemble. For you people that think we can just go out there and get anyone we want must be awfully young or have a short memeory. I've been around since the Rupp days, and with the exception of Joe B who was named coach in waiting we've never got our first choice, not sure about Cal.If we have to settle for that type, or really have to settle at all, we might as well just revoke our blueblood status ourselves. Either of those hires at this point in their careers is embarrassing for a program like UK.
Pitino had a Final Four at Providence then two years later won the division title with the Knicks. Newton wasn't exactly rolling the dice. Plus, the program wasn't exactly at a place where they could be picky.Joe Hall was a assistant under Rupp. Rick Pitino was a middle of the pack NBA coach. Tubby Smith had never been past the Sweet 16. No one would have called those guys "home run hires" at the time they took the job.
That's what terrifies me. I don't see a lot of realistic options that would come in and thrive like people are expecting. For you people that think we can just go out there and get anyone we want must be awfully young or have a short memeory. What terrifies me is Cal continuing to hold the program hostage, coaching underwelming seasons and then when half the team leaves for the NBA celebrating like it was his goal the entire year. That's what terrifies me. I don't see a lot of realistic options that would come in and thrive like people are expecting.

Tubby kinda was, we ended up with him because we got turned down by others. Hall was the coach in waiting for years and Pitino was an NBA coach. Why would they be embarrassing? So, Joe Hall, Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith were "embarrassments to the program when we hired them?
I guess if you can't argue the content it's best to resort to ad hominem these days?......Interesting.You show up this week on a brand new account and make a post comparing a coaching search for our program like it would be equivalent to Indiana’s.....interesting.
He was Head coach at IUPUFW for a whileFife has never held a head coaching job
Exactly Holtmann is at OSU they only really care about football, same thing with Beard. Either of those 2 might kill it at KY with our resources.Joe Hall was a assistant under Rupp. Rick Pitino was a middle of the pack NBA coach. Tubby Smith had never been past the Sweet 16. No one would have called those guys "home run hires" at the time they took the job.
