I mean....why would he take the career chance and go to IU when at present Ohio State is a better job, currently. Indiana has a much better basketball tradition but it’s a seriously challenging rebuild. I don’t blame him at all.

This will be unpopular here, but if we lose Cal anytime soon, this is similar to what our search will resemble. Getting rejected by the top choices, then getting rejected by someone who has never been past a sw 16, and only made it to 1 of those (Holtman), then being embarrassed and having to settle for a Chris Beard type coach. Not to mention the entire roster will leave with him.

Maybe IU should target the Joel Justus of Michigan State's program, Dane Fife! There is about to be a mass exodus of Spartans hitting the portal and Fife is an IU alum/grad when they last played for National Championship. Or do they want to avoid the "Izzo tree" after it gifted them Creepy Tom Crean?

Some consider Indiana a top-10 coaching job. I don't think it's top in its own conference.

And just like IU fans some UK fans will actually think Brad Stevens will come running to Lexington.🤪

Fife has never held a head coaching job

Hey it may come down to Fife.

Geronimo! (As in Jordan Geronimo, one of seven IU players to enter the tranfer portal, not including Trayce Jackson-Davis, likely headed for the NBA.)

GERONIMO! As in jumping out of a plane without a parachute, IUse2Be's strategy for its coaching search, and pattern of behavior for roughly 30 years.

Having to "settle" for a Beard or Holtmann wouldn't be terrible. Both are young and hungry to win. Either would crawl to Lexington for the job.
Even if Calipari stays, next year's team will be marginal as well.

Damn...I hope that doesn't happen. We could end up going 9-16 or something...

Yeah, but would the 11 years before that include FOUR FINAL FOURS, A CHAMPIONSHIP, SEVEN ELITE EIGHTS and one other season in which the team won the SEC by three games, was poised for a deep run but the tourney wasn't played -- along with a clear lead over everyone in NCAA tournament wins?

I doubt it.

If we have to settle for that type, or really have to settle at all, we might as well just revoke our blueblood status ourselves. Either of those hires at this point in their careers is embarrassing for a program like UK.

You show up this week on a brand new account and make a post comparing a coaching search for our program like it would be equivalent to Indiana’s.....interesting.

Anyone that hasn’t turned down IU yet?

They’ve extended me an offer. But it’s a low ball offer, and I hate those candy stripe warmups. So if they don’t bump up the $$$ and lose the stripes I’m pulling a Rick Barnes.

For you people that think we can just go out there and get anyone we want must be awfully young or have a short memeory. I've been around since the Rupp days, and with the exception of Joe B who was named coach in waiting we've never got our first choice, not sure about Cal.

Joe Hall was a assistant under Rupp. Rick Pitino was a middle of the pack NBA coach. Tubby Smith had never been past the Sweet 16. No one would have called those guys "home run hires" at the time they took the job.
Pitino had a Final Four at Providence then two years later won the division title with the Knicks. Newton wasn't exactly rolling the dice. Plus, the program wasn't exactly at a place where they could be picky.

Tubby had only been a head coach for 6 years. However, he had made the Sweet 16 three out of the six. He was up and coming and proved to have some postseason success.

Even Eddie Sutton had an Elite Eight and Final Four.

Hall was hired almost 50 years ago. Times have changed.

That's what terrifies me. I don't see a lot of realistic options that would come in and thrive like people are expecting.

So, Joe Hall, Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith were "embarrassments to the program when we hired them?
Tubby kinda was, we ended up with him because we got turned down by others. Hall was the coach in waiting for years and Pitino was an NBA coach. Why would they be embarrassing?

I guess if you can't argue the content it's best to resort to ad hominem these days?......Interesting.

Exactly Holtmann is at OSU they only really care about football, same thing with Beard. Either of those 2 might kill it at KY with our resources.
