Do we still have faith? It’s been worse than bad. At what point will winning matter for our major programs.

Losing to Creighton is not a surprise. Losing to Western Illinois is, though.Do we still have faith? It’s been worse than bad. At what point will winning matter for our major programs.

And many here would argue baseball isn't a major program. Revenue-wise, they would be sorta right. But some people just aren't baseball people. Our men's programs are a joke sans baseball. Will Bolt actually wins. Men's BB and FB apparently needs 6 to 10 years to not look like a clown show.
But I'd rather watch a well coached team that wins. If I wanted to see a clown show I'd head to the circus. And many here would argue baseball isn't a major program. Revenue-wise, they would be sorta right. But some people just aren't baseball people.![]()
Agreed. I have had season tickets since I moved back to NE. Fortunately, I had to endure only one season of Erstad as HC (as much as I like the guy). But I'd rather watch a well coached team that wins. If I wanted to see a clown show I'd head to the circus.
5 conference wins in two years. Maybe we get 5-7 conference wins this year.Losing to Creighton is not a surprise. Losing to Western Illinois is, though.
As long as money continues to pour into these programs to keep them afloat, I believe they've proven to all continue to make bad decisions - which is easy to do, when performance and accountability don't seem to be a metric any longer.
I think Nebraska is setting itself up for an even greater colossal meltdown in the future with how they are managing all the flailing (and failing) major programs. With a loss in revenue (which WILL happen at this rate), we simply don't have the population or $ to compete with other, higher-population states and universities, long-term.
Creighton's coach is one of the best basketball coaches in the country IMO, very hard to find someone who does more with less than McDermot.Do we still have faith? It’s been worse than bad. At what point will winning matter for our major programs.

Sounds like a great excuse to give him a raise and extension right now. It's the Nebraska way.Losing to Creighton is not a surprise. Losing to Western Illinois is, though.

You mean 7 conference wins total for Hoiberg after his 3rd season, correct? 7-52 B1G record at the end of this season sounds about right.5 conference wins in two years. Maybe we get 5-7 conference wins this year.
Sustaining effort on the defensive end is difficult to maintain unless that is the coach’s identity. Nebraska on defense the first 3-5 Creighton possessions was really good. They denied the entry passes to Kalkbrenner, they extended the defense to make the 3’s tough shots. Then when Creighton went on their run, Nebraska lost its defensive intensity.Creighton plays the game just as I thought a Hoiberg coached team should. With fluid ball movement creating open shots. Not to mention great effort on the boards. What's up with Fred's teams? Are we not recruiting players that are able to "mesh" together? I thought Doc was a great defensive coach and Fred an offensive genius. I'm not a real knowledgeable basketball guy. What's the answer in year 3?
I agree. I thought the ball would move. It’s not even fun to watch.Creighton plays the game just as I thought a Hoiberg coached team should. With fluid ball movement creating open shots. this is a depressing thought, and while I agree with you, the optimist in me hopes there is more to the programs than the 'bottom line'.The conference payouts are so large that winning isn’t all that important as far as athletic programs are concerned. From a pure athletic business standpoint you could slash expenses by cutting coaching salaries by 50-75% and the conf revenue goes unchanged
for all the gnashing of teeth about wins and losses the fan base continues to fill stadiums and arenas to watch bad football and basketball
we are getting very little value for the money being spent trying to win. This may have been a big part of why Trev stuck with Frost. For all the griping, losing appears to pay the bills just as easily as winning
why invest money trying to make better widgets when the current crappy widgets are selling just fine
I just don't see it and that isn't because TM is out either.5 conference wins in two years. Maybe we get 5-7 conference wins this year.
Both Frost and Hoiberg failed to capitalize on the excitement generated at the time of their hiring. With each losing season, recruits will care less and less about Frost’s 13-0 National coach of the year at CF, and Hoiberg’s extensive NBA experience/connections. Fred has brought in the better recruits, and now he needs to actually coach them.Passing/ball movement and spacing etc. very little of that is happening. Didn’t think a coach would be just as or more disappointing than Frost but FH is all of that.
