Do we still have faith? It’s been worse than bad. At what point will winning matter for our major programs.

Our men's programs are a joke sans baseball. Will Bolt actually wins. Men's BB and FB apparently needs 6 to 10 years to not look like a clown show.

Losing to Creighton is not a surprise. Losing to Western Illinois is, though.

As long as money continues to pour into these programs to keep them afloat, I believe they've proven to all continue to make bad decisions - which is easy to do, when performance and accountability don't seem to be a metric any longer.

I think Nebraska is setting itself up for an even greater colossal meltdown in the future with how they are managing all the flailing (and failing) major programs. With a loss in revenue (which WILL happen at this rate), we simply don't have the population or $ to compete with other, higher-population states and universities, long-term.

And many here would argue baseball isn't a major program. Revenue-wise, they would be sorta right. But some people just aren't baseball people. ;)

But I'd rather watch a well coached team that wins. If I wanted to see a clown show I'd head to the circus.
Agreed. I have had season tickets since I moved back to NE. Fortunately, I had to endure only one season of Erstad as HC (as much as I like the guy).

I think Nebraska basketball has very low expectations. I also think Fred has completely failed to meet them. That should have been hard to do but he is making it look easy.

5 conference wins in two years. Maybe we get 5-7 conference wins this year.

I saw this year's Husker MBB team for the first time last evening. Not impressed with Verge, or Tominaga or Breidenbach. Just visually, other teams' fans are laughing under their breath. These guys aren't basketball players, much less a team that can win together.

Sounds like a great excuse to give him a raise and extension right now. It's the Nebraska way.

Fred Hoiberg's win % is .237 which makes him the worst basketball coach in this programs history. Need to let his *** god ASAP. Put Doc in charge, anything is better than this jokester.

Fred was the best hire at the time and a proven coach with NBA experience as well. Crazy that he can't get off the ground. This years' team is not good either and I see another bad season upon us.

Losing Trey McGowns is a tragic loss for the season..
Very disappointed what I seen last night, way too much one on one and taking shots way too early in the shot clock..

Most of the night they played like it was a pickup basketball game..
Expected a better team but most of them haven’t played together very long..

keep in mind that it was a total crock they stuck this game so early in the season for us. This game should have been in early December at the earliest. Wish we would have had a couple more games under our belt before having to go up against them. It has been really frustrating watching us miss at the rim over and over again. I was at Sam Houston and watched the 1st half last night and still dont think Ive seen Verge score more than 4 points.

The lack of a true point guard and competent big man with all the players he brings in is inexcusable to me. I'm not going to write this team off this early in the season, college basketball can take some time for teams to figure things out and get rolling so I'll hope that happens even though I'm pessimistic it will. The mistakes are fixable and there is talent but they can play some ugly basketball for long stretches.

Creighton plays the game just as I thought a Hoiberg coached team should. With fluid ball movement creating open shots. Not to mention great effort on the boards. What's up with Fred's teams? Are we not recruiting players that are able to "mesh" together? I thought Doc was a great defensive coach and Fred an offensive genius. I'm not a real knowledgeable basketball guy. What's the answer in year 3?

Sustaining effort on the defensive end is difficult to maintain unless that is the coach’s identity. Nebraska on defense the first 3-5 Creighton possessions was really good. They denied the entry passes to Kalkbrenner, they extended the defense to make the 3’s tough shots. Then when Creighton went on their run, Nebraska lost its defensive intensity.

The conference payouts are so large that winning isn’t all that important as far as athletic programs are concerned. From a pure athletic business standpoint you could slash expenses by cutting coaching salaries by 50-75% and the conf revenue goes unchanged

for all the gnashing of teeth about wins and losses the fan base continues to fill stadiums and arenas to watch bad football and basketball

we are getting very little value for the money being spent trying to win. This may have been a big part of why Trev stuck with Frost. For all the griping, losing appears to pay the bills just as easily as winning

why invest money trying to make better widgets when the current crappy widgets are selling just fine

I agree. I thought the ball would move. It’s not even fun to watch.

this is a depressing thought, and while I agree with you, the optimist in me hopes there is more to the programs than the 'bottom line'.

Yep, like Creighton hasn't beaten NU every year in December also. NU hoops has been horrible for 20+ years and this year doesn't appear that it is going to be different.

It's depressing. We get a proven head coach with a great pedigree and track record and 3 years in we are on pace for our 3rd straight losing season. I had visions of grandeur after Colorado. But it was fool's gold. We'll be lucky to win 10 or 12 games. I'm struggling to think Fred can get it done. They seem to be all about just adding talent and not caring whether theres any team cohesion, we are an island of misfit toys. Fred is very very hands off which I'm not sure is a good style with such a young team. He let's them sink or swim on their own and these guys are jumping in the deep end with cinderblocks tied to their ankles.

Passing/ball movement and spacing etc. very little of that is happening. Didn’t think a coach would be just as or more disappointing than Frost but FH is all of that.

Both Frost and Hoiberg failed to capitalize on the excitement generated at the time of their hiring. With each losing season, recruits will care less and less about Frost’s 13-0 National coach of the year at CF, and Hoiberg’s extensive NBA experience/connections. Fred has brought in the better recruits, and now he needs to actually coach them.

Fair assessment..
Hoieberg won’t win enough unless he gets a few people in the paint that are paint eaters to rebound in this conference…
