True, but from where I'm sitting, next year looks like it should be a good one for RU on the hardwood.Next year is never a given.

Criticizing Pike, or Hobbs for signing Pike, given where we are, or were even before last nights win, just makes no sense to me.Some of the negative characters probably wanted Schiano fired back in 2010-11. They want a B10 championship already.
I believe it was wonderful to extend Steve Pikiell for so many reasons. He is the best thing that ever happened to RU Basketball since Tom Young. The guy gets along with everyone and is a great ambassador for our team and our university. He also is an outstanding person. Those who are critical have no idea how loyal he is and how good of a coach he is. Obviously they have not seen him up close or running practices.

It's been a remarkable turnaround for RU mens basketball.
We are talking years out from now. By 2026, $4mil will be a bargain by thenfrom SK.com
From 2019-20 through 2025-26, the contract stipulates a guaranteed compensation of $20 million, plus performance and retention bonuses. Introduced as the 19th head coach in program history on March 22, 2016, with an initial contract that ran through 2020-21, Pikiell previously agreed to an extension in January 2018 that secured his services through 2023-24.
This is stupid. He deserves a raise but not top tier B1G money.
If you look at our B10 peers you can go from rags to riches and back to rags REAL quick (specifically Northwestern and Nebraska). This was the main reason I was hesitant to be fully on board with the extension with all the unknowns in the conference prior to sealing the NCAA deal (which looks 95% at this point).
But in the few days since then Pike has copped a serious commitment and bagged a big time home win to likely seal the deal. I actually think the Jones commitment was equally as important as the MD win as it secures our future (barring decomitts).
I agree with some of your comments. This back n forth we are having actually stems from your comment "winning at all costs" I am interpreting your comment to mean you don't care if we have to cheat or do something underhanded to gain an advantage. If that's winning at all costs then no I don't want to win that way because it sends the wrong message to players. Also you said you never saw coach keep his job for being a good mentor. Maybe your right but I have seen coaches LOSE their jobs for winning at all costsThis isn’t a local cyo basketball league . These “kids” understand that it’s about winning better than you and me. It’s big business at this level . We are paying a coach and his staff millions to win. The next time a college coach keeps his job because he was a great mentor and instilled life lessons will be the first time

We're still short a solid backup to Myles. Hopefully Cliff Omoruyi signs on or Pikiell's going to have to go looking for a grad transfer.True, but from where I'm sitting, next year looks like it should be a good one for RU on the hardwood.

College basketball is a dirty dirty business . To be competitive you probably have to skirt some rules . From the aau handlers on up.
It doesn’t meant you’re bringing in bad kids but you’re not always going to follow all the rules , even rutgers. Coaches that cheat certainly stick around like like Roy Williams , Calhoun , Bill self, kelvin Sampson etc . Pitino will probably prop back up somewhere if he wants .
We all want rutgers to win and put a product out there that this state can be proud of . I just realize that we may have to “cheat” a little . You need to be a wolf to catch a wolf ...or something like that lol.

I think pikiell has done his best to recruit kids with good parents. This gives him the best shot of avoiding "handlers" or at least recruiting kids where "handlers" have least influence

Where is all this money coming from? We are still paying millions of dollars a year for coaches that got fired!
The Forbes article noted that Rutgers is getting a more substantial share of B1G money next season. Full share doesn't kick in till 2027 due to borrowing ahead.Where is all this money coming from? We are still paying millions of dollars a year for coaches that got fired!
It's not a word that's ever been in my vocabulary or the vocab of guys in my neighborhood when I was growing up....But, it seems to fit here......Joey douche Bags

Listen pike has done a good job here . But it’s not great . And Hobbs just gave an extension to a guy that may be in the midst of engineering one of the biggest collapses in history . He could have just waited like the OP said to actually accomplish something
There are other dynamics to consider. There will be other schools looking to build a program. You won't see on twitter if a 3rd party asks Pikiell if he'd listen about opportunities at other schools.
Anyone, pre Maryland, that wouldn't think schools would have an interest in Pikiell don't respect enough what he has done here and how difficult it was.
.I think TV $s are coming down as media consumption changes
Some of you should really have your posting privileges revoked.
I don’t call people stupid often, but damn, some of the “reasons” y’all are saying not to renew for are amazing!!!!! In a STUPID way!
You don’t even have to follow RU Hoops closely to see the upward trajectory. Lol.
The worst is the whole “he didn’t make the tourney yet”! Wow!!!! I’m not even going to say all of the things that have already been pointed out to some of these idiotic posts. Just wow!
Congrats coach Pike for making RUHoops nationally relevant again..... but.... there’s 20 guys on a message board that don’t like your new contract. Hahahahahahahaha. Wow!
BIG revenue payout increased 48% from 2017 to 2018 ($513M vs $759M). Where do you think this money is coming from?
Even if you think more will be watching through streaming or some other form, dont assume the BIG wont profit from this. They are clearly very very good at getting top revenue for their products.
nah, been around longer then most of the posters here. I'm just usually able to scroll past the bull... but this post...lol.You must be new here........there's a group here who classifies upward and downward trajectory for the program intra game - possession to possession.
Overall your concept is correct. People are cutting the cord. I did within the last year. Use ISP TV now and get every single channel, premium channel, sporting event, PPV anything you can think of for $7 a monthCable will go the way off the landline phone. So much revenue comes from EVERYONE who has cable paying to watch sports with 90+% of them not even watching.
The next recession will accelerate the cutting off the cord.

Pikiell is recruiting kids that can him games first, and second and third .
And if they have good parents that’s a bonus.
