Silk, do you know what we offered Hines to stay? I'm starting to think he wanted to leave anyway.
In the works for months , money , car and Gordon . Also Hurley sugar coating the deal telling him to come to a proven winning tournament team that sends players to the pros every year. Forget Hurley nice guy praising the Hall . It's a cut through business .

I don’t believe you could get a universal system in place for that. But I do like the foundation of that idea.

I have always believed you have to build the buyout into the player’s contract.

Offer two year contracts. And have a buyout if the player wants to leave after year one.

why would a player sign a contract like that? Because you are structuring year 2 to have an escalated value available. Maybe its guaranteed, maybe its incentive based like the NFL does. Either way you are making year 2 attractive enough where the player can stay and also not get kicked to the curb by the school. Could you end up with some “bad contracts” that way? Absolutely, but you still get some continuity, familiarity with the fans, and in year two maybe you get some unexpected improvement.

And if the kid blows up after year one his opportunity at another school should be so attractive that the new school is willing to eat the cost of the buyout anyway.

Someone at the lower level has to be creative and step outside the box. Be the trend setter with an idea like this. Why not us? (I know….Just opened Pandora’s box for all those who will tell us why it won’t be us)
This already happened with Duke QB Mensah having to pay Duke for the last year of his 2 year NIL after Duke filed a law suit. A universal system could certainly work and would avoid all the legal hassles.

So Hines asks for 3-5 million and gets 1.5 at UConn? Who cares about a car when you’re leaving 3 million on the table, what is it a Bugatti?

Why try to make sense out of anything during these strange times?
Exactly. No one knows what these guys are getting. Everyone has a really good source. But we should find out if the money is coming directly from UCONN as a public university. Of course NIL does not have to be reported, only rev share by UCONN.

Most of the money comes from outside the University via commercial deals such as with NASCAR QQQ or other big name companies
