Herro is a PG

Tyler played PG in Highschool and loves to have ball in his hands to pull up .. dish .. or drive.

His first few plays for the Heat tonight showed how comfortable he is with ball in his hands.

Huge mistake by Cal not letting him run the point.

He could have been deadly on pick and roll with PJ instead of running back and forth on baseline 10 times before he got the ball.

Should have let him try the point instead of trying to make him a two guard and change his shot.

I thought he could definitely have run point in spurts. He's a very good passer. I don't know if he's a full time NBA PG, but would do in a pinch. Of course I say that and he makes a terrible pass.

:joy: Cal also messed up in having Herro only hit 18% from downtown in the NCAA.

Idiots.

Not sure where “team” would have come into play if Herro would have been PG. Could Herro been a great PG? Probably but who plays the two guard? No one that played it like Herro.

kid took the most shots on the team by far....cant imagine how many more he would have put up if he had the ball in his hands even more.

Tyler is not quick enough to be a primary PG...not in the SEC and definitely not in the NBA. He would struggle getting by a quality NBA PG to penetrate and couldn't possibly guard his position.

He could spell at the PG because he is a total ball player and has a high IQ on the court. But playing spot minutes vs it being his primary position are two different balls of wax.

To say Cal misused him or made a mistake with Herro is laughable.

As others have said, he was a lottery pick playing SG. Cal is the only coach who could have made that happen when he walked on campus...he'd be a 3 year player at minimum if he went to Wiscy..hell he may have been a grad transfer (tongue in cheek on last part).

He shot 19% from 3 in the tourney and got picked 12. I think Cal did right by him.

Just our tradition here lately- our shooters go ice freakin' cold during the tourney.

Murray did it, Monk did it, PJ at the line the next year, Tyler this year.

Don't know why it happens. Pressure I guess.

Regardless, Tyler is going to be fine in the pros and Cal got him to be a lotto pick. Yeah, OP, Cal sure ruined him.

Summer league . They definitely better not try to make him a PG when they face the big boys

On what planet does this make any sense?

I appreciate Cal to the fullest, but we’ll soon see how big of a mistake that was. No offense to Hagans or Quickley, whatsoever.

Seems like always something for some to complain or criticize about. Tyler came in as a 4* who most were saying would be at UK for 2-3 years and Cal turns him into a lotto pick in one year. Yet. some in this thread feel Cal played him wrong and hurt him and the team. Wow, just wow! And, as others pointed out, who would have been our 2 guard?

Yall laugh but I can see Tyler being groomed to handle PG duties. I always felt like he comp'd more to a scoring PG than 2 in the NBA. He has perfect size for it and very skilled. Learning to penetrate and defend isn't all athleticism, there's technique involved.

Cal played him where he would help the team more. The game is much different in the NBA, than in college.

Herro could have been anything at UK ... except a guy who hits 20% of his threes when it matters.

I love the kid, but he’s the most overrated player we’ve had (by the fans only). Gee- wonder why ...

Agreed. Huge 3 against Houston but other than that not much in tournament.
